My mother and I climbed up to the top of capri central just to come to this restaurant, the owner Gianfranco made sure to take extra good care of us along with his fantastic staff. Everyone was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. We started off with the "scialatielli fior di zucchine e tartufo estivo". It's a made with homemade pasta, zucchini flowers, and truffles in a delicious sauce. We then had the house specialty "cocotte" which is a seafood pasta that is just out of this world. My mother and I love a seafood pasta and this one was so delicious we decided to ask for the menu again to order more. As we waited we got to enjoy the interior which has been operating for over 85 years since the owners father first opened the restaurant. It's truly a wonderful place that makes you feel right at home. We wanted a bit of fish to enjoy but did not want to order the large plate of fish, so Gianfranco went out of his way for us to ask his chef to cook us up a smaller plate of fish. It was so buttery and melt in your mouth. Absolutely delicious! My mother and I couldn't help ourselves, we decided to get a glass of Chianti wine and a tiramisu to end the meal. The tiramisu just melts in your mouth and we practically licked the plate clean. I have read the other reviews of guests who did not give 5 start reviews. I personally think they must be out of their minds because this was one of the best meals we have had in all of Italy! If you have the chance to come to Capri and walk up to see the towns center, this is a must stop location. You will remember this meal for decades to come. My family and I were so lucky to have stumbled into this amazing family run restaurant on our day trip to Capri! The owner is incredibly hospitable, kind and funny. My mom and I ordered the homemade pasta with lemon sauce and it was amazing, light, fresh. The Grottinetti was a fried pasta dish with cheese and meat inside, it was so unique and absolutely delicious. The veal was also yum. The owner gave us the true Italian experience and even hand fed my sister so she would finish all of her meal - it was hilarious!!! We visited here on our last night in Capri, which ended up being a great choice for us. We came here as a group of 3 without a reservation, and the gracious staff sat us immediately. The restaurant itself was very cute and home-y, and we felt very welcome. There were lots of choices on the menu, spanning between pasta, vegetables, seafood and other meats. We chose the gnocchi, veal lemon piccata, and ravioli, which were all very tasty. Understanding that this is a very touristy destination, we expected it to be a bit pricey (around 15-20 euro per person), but of course wish a bit more was included for the price point. I believe the owner/chef was there taking our orders and making our food. We started off with the calamari steak. It was huge and so tender, some of the best calamari I've had. I had the pasta with the shrimp and zucchini flowers. It was delicious, the pasta was handmade and so light. The sauce was light and delicious. I sampled the clam pasta, the shrimp pasta and the ragu. Everything was excellent. It was one of the best meals. Delicious, wonderful! Best words to describe the experience. We are here in Capri for only a few days and wanted to enjoy the foods of the amalfi coast. From the moment I called to make reservations, the owner was welcoming and helpful. He asked where I was staying and gave me directions from my hotel. When we walked in, he had our table reserved, no wait at all. Quaint restaurant amidst the center of Capri. It's down an alley so easy to miss but once you taste the food, the place is unforgettable. My sister and I started with the caprese salad (upgrade to the bufala mozzarella, well worth it) and the mussels. The freshest mussels I've even tasted in a tasty light tomato sauce. We, then decided to share the seafood coccotte (excuse my spelling). It comes prepared in a dutch oven with homemade linguine. Amazing! The mussels, clams and prawns are so fresh they taste as if they came right from the sea to the table. We decided to finish our culinary journey with the Capri cake. A light chocolate cake with nuts, so good and satisfying. And the entire time, the owner made us feel welcome, as if we known each other for years, not rushing us either even though he had several people waiting for a table. Spending a few days in Capri while on vacation in Italy and searched for a place that would be a good dining experience on this magical island and Al Grottono hit the mark. A little hard to find, but well worth it! Small, so on a busy night expect to be close to the tables around you, but this adds to the fun. Owner is helping take orders, bus tables and offer suggestions to your dining. The food is very good, I had the lemon based pasta and my wife had the ravioli - both served hot, and were very tasty.
