We have been interested in trying this bakery for some time, frequently parking our car in the nearby neighborhood. Today was the day! There was a small line, so my wife and child (2.5yo) waited outside while I joined. (The shop is simple and cute. There are some merch items to buy, but mostly you are overwhelmed - in a good way - with all the tasty-looking options.) When it was my turn, I asked the lady for some recommendations. (I sometimes feel bad doing that, since it was busy - and perhaps I should know what I am looking for.) Her first choice was the apple turnover, which I am always drawn to, but since I was sharing, my wife prefers chocolate - could be risky! Her second was the pistachio tart - she described it elequently with the apricot having a touch of sweetness. Lastly, "the pain au chocolate is always good." I also asked about savory options, but none of her recommendations there sounded good at the moment (she mentioned the salami.) She finished by telling me that the apple turnover had come out of the oven less than 30 minutes ago. Another reason to choose it! (She was lovely through the experience; I was glad that she had strong opinions and didn't mind sharing them.) In the end, I went with her three top choices and was not disappointed! We started with the tart - so delicate and lightly flakey. The flavors went very well together and really melted in your mouth. Next, the apple turnover went over better than expected! (with my wife, I knew I'd love it.) Our daughter referred to it as the pie -warm, flakey - like autumn in your mouth. The pain au chocolate was good, too, but to be honest, I think most of them are. Felt like a good third choice in case the others were not up to snuff - plus as I said, my wife likes chocolate. All in all, a really solid French bake shop. I came by on a Saturday before closing and many items were sold out, so definitely come early. Since I was already there, I decided to try a seasonal Caramel Popcorn Tart ($6) and the Pave Loaf ($6), which was recommended as their Baguette was sold out and what I really wanted. The loaf was pricier and described as softer, which was a bit disappointing to me. Once I got home to slice the bread, I was barely able to cut because it was so hard. While the bread was chewy inside, it lost its texture by the next day sadly. I do enjoy the flavor for the tart though, but not something I'd get often. Hopefully I could try something better, but didn't find the baked goods here all that special. read more

This is part of a very successful chain. The delicious smells are intoxicating.You cannot go wrong with any of their croissant or danish. Prices are r trend reasonable. $4.$5 a piece. Ham cheese a bit more but it's a meal But their baguettes for $2 are the super stars. We adore their sandwiches. They have French ham, compte and French butter. There is a fig jam and Brie. I was so happy when a La Bicyclette Bakery moved into the neighborhood. I've only been to the Greenpoint location before, but this bakery fits right in here. Flooded with natural light, there is a small seating area inside as well as counter seating. There is also a small outdoor section which is perfect for the warmer months. Home to fresh baked baguettes, croissants, and other amazing pastries this is the perfect comforting spot for a stop in during a weekend morning stroll. I just beat the rush on a Sunday morning and walked in for my morning coffee and left with a fig & brie baguette sandwich as well as a mushroom & red bell pepper quiche to be greeted by a line about 10 people deep. I have a few faves of my own: Radio Bakery, Bakeri, Poppy's, and of course La Bicyclette Bakery is added to this list. This is my second visit to La Bicyclette Bakery and IMO this bakery is a fine authentic French Boulangerie baking with the freshest ingredients. The result: Quelle Magnifique! It makes me feel as if I'm back in a Paris boulangerie; the gorgeous artisanal breads, croissants and baguettes. Then there are the assortment of pastries: Oreillon apricot, Pear Almond Tarte, Apple Tarte (one of my faves) Sweet brioches, Pain Aux Raisins and Chocolate Roule to name a few. The savory sandwiches include fresh mozzarella, tomato and basil and the outstanding Ham and Cheese. Not just your humdrum H & C but the freshest ham on a delicious baguette with my fave, Comte cheese.. talk about elevating this simple jambon-buerre ( that's sandwich in French for all you Parisians!) It was one of the best I've had! In fact, I asked to have my jambon-buerre sliced in half to take half home.. well that didn't work as I devoured it all. They also sell sweet and savory condiments to create Parisian delights at home. Additionally, you can purchase their cute T- shirts. The bakery has a small eating area with cute little wooden side tables. The staff is friendly, sweet and professional as they serve and slice with pride. I've tried five different pastries over multiple visits and every single time I'm disappointed. Everything looks like it would be light and flakey but they are dull and sad in reality. I see more cheese pieces on it than ham. Almond choco croissant - Out of all 3 croissants I tried, this one was my favorite. Soft & great flavors! I came for Sunday breakfast in a recommendation from my cousins. Once again, they did not let me down. We lucky only had a couple people infront of us inline and were able to snag two of the limited seats in the back. Definitely plan for this to be a grab and go situation as the line grew after we got our food. We got two of their prepared sandwiches and this is probably the best baguette I've ever had. Both sandwiches were immediately devoured. I especially liked the Brie, fig jam, and arugula sandwich but the crunch from the cornichons was also superb. Great addition to the area! I've been a few times and have enjoyed everything. My favorite pastry has been their savory chorizo and cheese pastry. So unique and can't get it anywhere else. The most recent time I tried their ham and cheese croissant and a blueberry financier. Both were excellent. The croissant was $9 so definitely something great if you want to treat yourself :). Fresh pastries, very friendly staff, but as a member of this community for quite some time- it still very much looks like Sals Pizzeria that was there before them. They need a few interior and exterior changes to really make their new name in the community. Even the outdoor awning is the same color as the pizzerias was. Another suggestion is some more seating. This neighborhood thrives on casual hangouts for our old timers and new comers. ESPECIALLY being across the street from our well known Le French Tart Bakery, you guys have some competition as it is! Some outdoor seating would make you stand out for sure. Lastly, please get the front door fixed. It is SUPER HEAVY and hard to open, and I'm strong ! Quality of treats here are fresh and baked new everyday- so I will be back for sure. But my suggestions would increase my rating...
