Stopped by for lunch today, i was worried since i didn't see the yellow truck but I learned it was replaced by a red truck! The truck is still in the same place, in the Pearlridge shopping center parking lot along Kamehameha highway where the old sears and zippys used to be. I wanted to update my review from 3 years ago to say that the birria tacos here are still 5 star! I would also like to mention that the price only went up $1 since my review 3 years ago which is great considering how prices are climbing. $13 for my 3 pack of queso birria tacos. The meat was plentiful and the broth was really tasty. Stop by and you won't be disappointed!
Bring cash. They charge a lot to use cards here. Woman at the register wasn't that friendly but I'm from Cali so it's whatever. As long as the food is good - she is just taking my order and handing me food. Also!! It's not located inside the mall. It's WAY down toward the edge of the 99. Near where it was the old sears building is what I have been told by my local friends. Across the street you can see the T mobile and AT&T stores. It's just a little food truck and we are thankful we finally found the correct location. The tacos are delicious. They are smaller street sized tacos but are stuffed with meat. They have the perfect amount of cheese, onions and cilantro. We ordered the Mexican roulette and had so much fun. Then we found the firecracker and wowza. The flavor was so good but the heat burnt off all my taste buds. We all tried it. It's hot and not an enjoyable one. I could drink the consume. In fact I added it to a pack of saimin noodles with some lime juice. So technically... just do it. I'm sure their ramen here is also delicious but I just want noodles and broth no meat. Our next box we picked up we skipped the hiding hell fire and opted for a regular box. It's a crowd pleaser at my house.
I got the 12 pack as well as thesis Fresca and my gf got horchata. Upon arriving, they had a pretty good line but that line moved quick. I place my order and they give you a beeper. Be ready to wait in the sun because it is a food truck. They have tables where some are in shade while others aren't. Even if you can't get a table, we did not wait very long. Maybe 10 minutes max after placing our order. The food was ok. I was expecting better but it was still good. The birria queso is not spicy at all so if you want spicy, you might want to try the hell fire. The drinks were ok. My gf and I both did not like the agua Fresca. It just tasted weird. The horchata was good in my opinion. My gf did not like the horchata but I did. They also have the option to add strawberry into it but I did not do that. If you're wanting to get full here then go for the 12 pack because I myself had to eat 6 to get full. I'm a 5'6" guy at 210lbs so took 6 tacos for me to feel full. Overall, i personally will be back but not anytime soon. I don't crave Mexican food often but I was wanting birria tacos and this hit the spot so I should be good for a while. Oh and I would recommend eating it right at the pearlridge parking lot. My food got cold quick. I drove home to Ewa and the cheese was not melted anymore, tacos weren't as crispy and it just was not hot as when we were given the box. It didn't take long to get cold so eat right away or you could reheat it in a pan or oven.
TLDR: 5/5 s!! if you haven't been here, give both their hellfire and queso (regular) tacos!! ~ Quick disclaimer: The photos below are of their old menu (they now have more options & is located on the right hand side of the ordering area) & truck (their truck is now red, closer to the Leonard's Malasadas truck) ~ La Birria is our FAVORITE place for Tacos!! If you live in the Aiea/Pearl Harbor area, this food truck is a MUST TRY! The first time we went, we got the 12 pack Birria Queso Tacos and a separate order of Hellfire Tacos. Second time, we got a 12 pack of the Hellfire Tacos & a Horchata! I would say that the better choice between the two if you were super hungry/could EAT, would be the 12 pack Birria Queso Tacos with a couple of the Hellfire Tacos. If you LOVE spicy food, I would say tackle the 12 Hellfire Tacos if you think you can handle it! My boyfriend and I are HUGE spicy food fans, but we couldn't finish all 12 (he finished 4, I finished 3) in one sitting--needless to say it was SPICY and La Birria was not messing around or kidding with that name. Regardless of which type of tacos you choose, I promise you won't go wrong with what you get!! The horchata was a great balance of milk/creaminess and cinnamon! I also love it because it has a different taste than other horchatas I've had--it's much lighter! ~ As described in the Quick Disclaimer portion, the truck has been renovated a bit along with their menu! I don't have all the changes memorized, BUT I do know that they also now have a Birria Taco Roulette pack where you get 11 Birria Queso Tacos & 1 hidden Hellfire Taco in the mix AND they have add-ons (Strawberry and Cold Brew) to their Horchata ~ The service here was awesome! The staff is so nice and they are SO SPEEDY! For our 12 pack Hell Fire Tacos only took about 3-5 minutes and when taking our order, they were so friendly & helpful! If you haven't been here, it's in the Old SEARS parking lot over at Pearlridge Shopping center right next to the Leonard's Malasadas truck! The worst part about this experience was honestly waiting in the heat/minimal shade in the area besides the few picnic tables provided under the trees, but IT'S WORTH IT, I PROMISE!! Go give La Birria a try! you won't regret it!
Here's why you go to get tacos. I love tacos. I love food trucks. I love the beautiful people that feeds my soul with the love they put in their food. La Birria's tacos will do that and more. I was driving all over, looking to get those tiny watch batteries to fix my watch. Went to a Big chain store: nope. Local drug store: nope. So I left unsatisfied. Looking to fill the void, I said I want tacos. When she asked if I need anything else with my tacos I said, "Yeah, I need some watch batteries." Guess what she said? Yup, she said I gotcha, this morning, I was getting some propane from the hardware store and they had batteries next to the check out line! Tacos will solve your problems!
This is my favorite Birria taco place in Hawaii. They are very generous with the meat and cheese. I would say a box can feed 2-3 people. There is a lot of onion and limes. The consume is flavorful, not too salty and good consistency. The food tastes very fresh, made to order and high quality ingredients. The service is made to order so please don't expect to get your food instantly. The workers are always kind and work very hard. The last time I went there, there was no seating so we usually just park our truck and eat on the bed. I would say you have about 10 minute timeframe to eat the tacos before they get cold and affects the taste.
Didn't know what to eat for lunch and my sister suggested we get birria tacos from this food truck. I've had birria tacos in the past but not from this food truck. We came at around 12:45pm there were about 3 groups in front of us. Line went by pretty fast. We both got the birria tacos 3 pack with consommé no cilantro. It looked so appetizing. The tacos were pretty crunchy and the meat was tender and each bite tasted so good with the consommé. The soup was very seasoned and delicious, I drank the rest of it after eating my tacos. If you wanted to, you could get noodles for it. Service is good, the employees were nice. Would come back again.
I came to La Birria for lunch today with mom. It was easy to find and parking was DEFINITELY not a problem ahaha. You can find the food truck across Pearl kai/next to the rail at pearlridge/next to Leonard's malasadas truck.... you won't miss it. Seemed pretty busy today being that it's a weekend. Although i do wish that they could expand their menu. Mom and i got the taco pack of 3 with it's sauce included ($12) + an agua Fresca ($4) for me. The wait time for the food didn't take long tbh. I was super excited to try them!!!! I spoke too soon however. I thought the tacos were going to be a bit bigger... you know, enough or more than enough to share between two people. Size does matter lol. I was slightly disappointed that the food itself was small, it i thought it'd be a lot bigger than the length of my hand. Other than that, the tacos were good and basic, no complaints about the taste yet not much of a surprise to me. The "hype" was over exaggerated. read more

The tacos here are great. If you have never had a Birria taco then come check this place out. Its a food truck with a few others located in a parking lot. I got the Diablo tacos because I love spicy stuff. The tacos were good, had a good spice but I was honestly expecting more. I'll head back eventually and get the normal tacos to try those. read more

Came into OAHU, and was looking for a quick but delicious meal and found it on yelp! The had a bit of a line that moved fast, so no complaints. We ordered the Birria Saimin and the Birria Taco w/ consommé! They prepared it fresh right after ordering... waited less than 3 minutes. Food was cheesy, seasoned and amazing. They had tables set up for all the food truck customers and we demolished our food. Will definitely be back on our next trip to Oahu!!! read more
¡Uau! Translation: "Wow!" BEST tacos on island! MESSIEST tacos on island! Most EXPENSIVE, BEST and MESSIEST tacos on island! Prepare to get your shirt dirty and your hands soaked. This is NOT a first-date kinda meal. There's looooots of slurping, head bending, mmmmmmm-ing and tide stain removal buying involved in the eating of these tacos! Unless... your date is into that sort of thing! Though my family and I know birria to be made traditionally with goat, I personally prefer them with beef which is how La Birria prepares it. Goats are cuter than cows so I feel worse about eating a goat than a cow... ...What?! Sorry, vegetarians, there is nothing for you here except for pickled jalapeños. And $4 bottle of water... ouch! Oh, and onions. Soooooo much onion. Which brings me to my critique... I, personally, do not LOVE raw onions as I find their flavor to be overpowering in some dishes of too much is added. *My* personal, subjective opinion is that these tacos would be ultimate perfection if chef didn't go so heavy on the onions unless requested. But I'm not the chef, so I simply request at the counter to omit the onions completely. I would rather have none than too many. I'm sure they would oblige if you asked for onions on the side. I love beef and a birria is soooooooo satisfying when done properly that the meat needs to take front and center! I highly recommend this place. You can find them in the old pearlridge sears parking lot next to Leonard's Malasada truck. On Tuesdays you can find their food at the Beer Lab in pearlridge where AppleBees and Ferrel's was. My papito is a Jalisco native (where birria comes from) and he gives his stamp of approval on flavor, just not price... These tacos will run you $45 for twelve but they aren't BIG tacos, so depending on whether or not you are serving rice and beans or grilled veggies as an accompaniment, don't think one order of 12 will feed a family of four. You'll need two... unless you aren't like me and my family where you have a bottomless pit for tacos... You could order the 3 taco con queso plate if it's just you... but you'll want more- I promise. read more

Seriously the best birria tacos I've had by far. Food truck at Pearlridge so very quick to park and order. I've given up on birria tacos cause it always seems to dry out too quickly when reheating the meat but this, sooo good. It's juicy, soft, flavorful, so much layers of flavor. Even better with the pickled jalapeños. Ughhh. I need more!!! read more

I can't get enough of these tacos. The service is fast and ordering is easy. You can even get noodles to put in the Birria juice to savor the last bits of it. I got the original this time and they're just literal perfection. The hellfire tacos are great as well and I love spicy food but they will sneak up on you fast! And the horchata? You're missing out if you don't grab one! read more
It was okay. The consommé didn't have any spice to it and that was pretty disappointing. I would've also liked the birria tacos to have more flavor to them. However, consistency was good and the shells were cooked well. All in all, it wasn't bad but I've had better. read more

Found this spot in the old Sears parking lot, lots of parking space and other food trucks. It's pretty bomb!! I'm a big cilantro fan so I wish that I asked for more. The lime really made a big difference. Super delicious, nice end of the week treat yo'self meal! read more
1/13/21 @1430 Always saw people standing at the truck and wanted to see what this was all about. There was a wait, but the wait may have seemed longer than it actually was because I was really hungry. It was pretty good, very tasty and filling. I would say it was priced a little high at $12 for 3 tacos but hey, support local. It's located at Pearl Ridge Sears Parking Lot in between the Leonard's Malasada Truck and The Cold Vaifala Truck. The parking lot is pretty empty so parking is easy. If you score a parking under a tree, you can have your lunch in the shade. However, there are feral chickens running around staring you down. Oh, and someone dressed in black and an apron (probably the owner) was outside the truck and thanked me for coming. That was nice. read more

I am a huge fan of tacos and saimin. This was the perfect spot to grab both. They are doing an amazing job with sanitation. They clean the iPad after every customer, 6 feet is also implemented. There is no sitting area so you would need to take to go or eat at your car. The truck is located on Pearlridge parking lot next to Leonard's Malasada truck. Birria Tacos: I liked how they were crispy and filled with meat. The size is decent and the topping are sufficient. It comes with a decent side of broth. I ordered the birria queso pack. I was expecting it to be cheesy therefor I deducted half a star! 4/5 Birria Saimin: BOMB.COM the noodles were NOT under or over cooked. I really liked how they kept a separate bowl for the saimin and broth. I would definitely order a full bowl next time! Lastly the HORCHATA was very delicious! I am very picky on agua frescas but this one gave me a good experience! I took a star away for the long wait and the small amount of cheese on the tacos. I wish they would have a way you could call in orders. They recently opened another truck in another location so hopefully this helps. I do recommend eating the food right away. Fresh out is always better. read more

So I wanted to see what the hype was so I finally got a chance to check them out today. I got there after the main lunch rush so there were only 2 people in front of me and after I ordered got my food in about 5 minutes. That is a fast turn around, obviously it wouldn't be that fast during the rush. I got the Birria Taco pack which is 3 cheese birria tacos and the consome. They were neatly placed with the consome on the side and one lime. The flavor was spot on, I don't know if the consome normally comes a bit watery, It didn't have any chunks of meat or any other items, it was just the broth so that I wasn't too thrilled about but I'm guessing it's what you get when you come late. I got there around 1:35pm. I'm not gonna deduct a star for that because the taste was great and nice portion of meat and cheese. I will however come back and if I get the same watery consome I may have to deduct a star. Oh and they came with onions and cilantro inside so if you don't like any of those make sure you ask them when you order to withhold. read more

Finally decided to try here, and line was long. Overall wait till you order was about 30 minutes, but after you place order I received food in 5 minutes. We ordered a 2 birria 3pk which comes with consommé. A side saimin noodles for the leftover consommé and pickled jalapeños. The tacos are not bad, crispy shell and the shredded meat is flavorful. Consommé is a soup which kinda reminds of a beef stew flavor with a Mexican style to it. I preferred the noodles in the soup rather than dipping the tacos. The pickled jalapeños was FIRE! But deliciously hot. Tacos are small and I probably could've eaten 6 more. Price is reasonable, and overall taste is good. Service was friendly & courteous. Glad we got to experience what all the hype is about, but Would we comeback? maybe if the line and wait wasn't as long as it was, plus they have a Hot AF birria taco I wouldn't mind sampling read more

FIRST TIMER!!!! My first time trying these dip tacos, soo excited!! I got the 3 tacos + consommé for $12 & $4 Horchata drink. I got my food right away after i paid, so i think they premake their tacos. The tacos were small but filled with a good amount of beef, onions, and a few other things. They were a tad bit crunchy on a few ends. The consomme was flavorful. The 3 tacos were perfect for my quick lunch break. Oh and the Horchata was really good to finish off my meal. It's my first time trying Horchata so i don't have a standard on how it should taste lol. Overall, Really good!!! I would definitely come again!! read more
I came here without much expectation since the reviews are either for it or people totally hated it. I really liked it. The line was long but the wait time wasn't that bad. I think the line looks longer due to people socially distancing in line due to COVID-19. I got the hot AF tacos. The seasoning was great and I loved the generous sprinkling of fresh cilantro and onion. It only comes with two tacos and I don't understand that as the regular flavored tacos have 3 in a box. The tacos did not live up to their name as it was NOT "hot AF." The birra was tasty to me. Some say it is oily, but my batch had just a little bit of oil which is expected. The homemade pickled jalapeno peppers were delicious but that was very spicy. I can appreciate the work that went into this side dish. I also got the saimin on the side to eat with the left over birra. I think this is a brilliant idea to use the leftover birra consomme. The saimin noodles provided were the typical local saimin noodles from a shop like Crown Noodle or Sun Noodle. It had a nice chew. Unfortunately, after eating the tacos the broth isn't hot anymore so the saimin is lacking in that it needs a hot broth. Perhaps microwave the broth at home? All in all, I enjoyed my meal. I minused one star due to the value of it. The one less taco was a bummer and adding the saimin noodles for $5 is rape. read more

I had been dying to try birria tacos. I had done some research and was considering making them myself, but I felt like I needed to taste them first so I knew what I was shooting for. I had tried to get some before, unfortunately, I arrived just after they took their last order for the day. I was excited when I arrived this time, and the line wasn't too long (about 5 people had already ordered and 1 guy in front of me. I ordered the birria queso tacos and a side of ramen to eat the consommé with. I wasn't sure if they took cards, so I stopped and grabbed cash, but, they do accept cards. The wait wasn't too long once I placed my order, and it was fun to see them heating the tacos on the plancha. I took the tacos home, and shared one with my dad. The flavor was good, not spicy, but flavorful. I enjoyed the consommé ramen, although I did add some hot sauce to give it a bit more heat, maybe next time I'll be brave and try the hellfire ones. read more

4.5 stars Birria tacos are the latest trend in Hawaii. I know they've been around for awhile in the mainland, but we are always on Hawaiian time as you know. There are tons of places that sell Birria tacos, so it's hard to figure out which ones are the good ones. Also most are preorder on Instagram and the pickup places are far. I'm happy that this food truck just opened today! They're located at Pearlridge in the Sears parking lot. I admit, convenience is a huge factor for me. Yes, they had a long line but the tacos were worth it. They have two broth levels but I've only had the regular since I can't eat spicy. The consommé broth is very flavorful! The tacos are were also very tasty because the meat was moist and well seasoned. Also get a horchata, it's so good! I need to to try the birria saimin next time I come and want to come on a weekday to see how crowded it is. Bothered my bf since the pandemic started to try these tacos and we finally got to! Taste/Quality: We went for 2 of the 12 pack tacos for about $95 with taxes. The tacos looked filling online and my family wanted to try them too. Taste of the meat was good. Sad to say that we were all disappointed with the tacos, seeing that they were almost $100. For me, they were okay. The lemons provided didn't have any juice in them and the boxes of tacos were full of oil. Once the tacos were ready, I picked them up and went straight to the car to head home. I had both boxes on my lap as my bf drove, and within 2 mins there was oil dripping down my legs and onto the seat. The boxes were thin and oil leaked through the corners. I was so glad that my car seats are leather and I had a bunch of napkins. I feel like this can be easily avoided with a sheet of wax paper placed under the tacos. Service: Quick and easy to locate the food truck and order. Paid on a mobile handheld device that the worker held as I put in my credit card. Unfortunately, he was wearing his face mask around only his chin while being less than 2 feet away throughout ordering and paying. read more

The hours posted on their IG is 11-4. I follow them, so I know they post when they sell out. On this particular day, I just so happened to be passing by & saw no line. I pulled into the parking lot & saw they still appeared to be open. I checked their IG to see if they were sold out & no post was made. So, I got out of my car & walked up to the truck. They were laughing as I walked towards them & said "Oh, we're sold out, sorry". I've been wanting to try this place out & it sucks for wasted time. I replied, "You should've posted that on your IG". Yeah, it's a bit irritating to be hungry, be disappointed & have them laugh as you walk away. Sure, they may say they weren't laughing AT me. But, it sure seemed like it. I got home about 15 min later & there still was no "sold out" post. Later that night I saw their IG story that was posted a few hours ago. I've seen their sold out posts many times & they never posted one that looked like this. If it was a blow at me because I'm not the skinniest person, then that was extremely rude & unnecessary. I immediately unfollowed them & refuse to support this local business during the pandemic. read more

The Instagram hype is definitely worth it! I tried the queso taco pack ($12) that included 3 tacos with a side of consumé. The meat was so tender, the consumé rich with flavor, and the tacos' add ins (onion & cilantro) provided a perfect bit of freshness. I would say the price of the entrees' Birria Queso Packis pretty high but understandable due to the time it takes to make the "birria" part of the tacos. I'm eager to come back and try the hellfire tacos ($12 for 2) which is their spicy version! But this spot probably wouldn't be a frequent visit due to the price. Their horchata ($4) paired perfectly with the tacos and I imagine it'd be great to drink with the spice. The wait was short and the lady in the front was so sweet. read more

Birria Tacos have been lighting up IG and these were delicious! Crazy as it sounds, the consume cup was actually big enough to scoop it into the taco. Sometimes the cups are to small to fit the taco haha. So good. After seeing all the rave about birria tacos on social media and seeing La Birria's truck parked at the Pearlridge (Sears) parking lot each week, I finally decided to check this place out. When I got to the truck, noticed the long line waiting but also read from fellow Yelp'ers and seen that there was great social distancing here at this spot - which is true. I ordered the 3 pk birria tacos, which is served with their consumme. Also ordered a side order of their picked jalapenos... one bite of the tacos dipped into the hot consumme, it was like "Wow!" Eating tacos will never be the same after this experience! On my second visit, ordered the side order of noodles, which was the popular suggestion to get for your leftover consumme... the noodles look like Okinawan soba and really, it was even good by itself, just plain with nothing on or in it. But, when you dip it into the consumme, it was another "Wow" experience! Stay tune for what is most inevitable a third visit..... =) read more

Food was awesome. Went with the CO and immediate reaction was "damn, not bad...this is actually really good." After seeing all my friends post up about it over weeks, I had to go myself and give it a shot. So this is our try, and will definitely go again next week but maybe not buy as much. The gf ate 3, I had 4, and then the rest for dinner between both of us. So maybe you can get away with the 3 PCs $12 option individually. Wait wasn't long considering they are constantly pumping out orders as we witnessed, while chowing down nearby in the parking lot. It's a little on the pricey side, but for what it's worth everything inside tasted fresh and crispy. I burnt my fingers trying to eat due to hunger and how fresh from the truck it was. The dipping sauce or stew I think, makes it greater in all the savory sensations hitting yo tongue like a Moke with a flavor bat. Not spicy but could be for those that think Tabasco is. Lots of meat in our tacos as you can see. Will visit again and bring more friends cause can and support local! read more

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!! I'm from San Diego so I have high standards for Mexican food. The food was so flavorful, well seasoned and authentic. There is a bit of a long wait because they really work to make it great. Depending on the day you can expect about a 30+ minute wait. Knowing that ahead of time will make the experience more enjoyable. Some of the other reviews didn't seem to realize how popular of a food truck this is. So not so much a quick lunch break food run. They are doing so well they sell out often. Try to get there by noon if possible to be sure you get some! They also have horchata (my favorite) but today I got the pineapple drink. DELICIOUS. The Hell Fire tacos are spicy but not unbearable. The saimin though... chef's kiss. Perfection. I will definitely be back!! read more

Pricey for sure but that's expected in Hawaii. Long lines yep! But if you're willing to splurge and wait, then I suggest you do just that because the birria is GOOD! Freshly stewed beef with right amount spices and chiles and nice ratio of meat to fat. Consommé that is tasty yet not salty (could use some skimming but it's fine). Onions, cilantro, lime and some pickled jalapeños and you're set yum! The horchata is excellent too. The saimin is ok, if you want that then you're better off going to a ramen shop instead. read more

These Birria Tacos are too delicious! Great flavors on the original and Hell Fire! Spicy AF for real! Pickled onions and Jalapeños are bomb, and you definitely want to get the ramen to add your left over Birria too! Can't recommend more!!! read more

My mom and I have been wanting to try these tacos for a while and we finally got around to checking them out today! We ordered the 12 pack of tacos for $45 and a horchata. The tacos were juicy, cheesy, and so filling! I definitely recommend getting a drink as it pairs really well with the tacos. read more

My friend posted about this place so I was super excited to try. Got there a little before noon. Six people in line before me. About a 15 min wait.. A girl took orders and was super efficient in keeping the line moving. I waited about 5-7 minutes for my food. Got the hell tacos, saimin, and aqua fresca. Omg! It's called hell fire tacos for a reason! I bit into a piece with a lot of seasoning powder and I was so grateful that I took the food home to eat... thank goodness for milk to cool the flame! Yes... it's a bit pricey for two tacos $12.., but we'll be back... trying to support small business as much as we can. Bet this would taste great with a cold ! read more

What days are they actually in the parking lot? Went on Thursday afternoon Jan 2 and nothing was there.
What kind of cheese? Can you get without cheese?
I'm not sure what cheese but I'm sure you can get it without the cheese! As if you get it without cilantro and all! You can most definitely get it without cheese (:
What is their closing time? I went around 3:30 and they were closing :(?
They close when they run out of food... so the earlier you get there the better... not super helpful, I know- but they sell out pretty fast. In Tuesdays in the evening you can get their food at the beer lab in pearlridge...
Does anyone know if they have phone? For takeout order?
No they're not I asked the same questions and the manager told me they're not. But in the future maybe they will do that's what I heard
Hours of Operation?
11:00 am- Until the food runs out! Earlier you can get there the better. Lunch rush is really busy...So late afternoon eaters may not get food!
