It's been a few years since I've last dined here. Since I was craving a fish dinner I decided to come for an early lunch hoping the quality was still the same...... it is! I order the combo meal 1 ( fish, oysters, shrimp which comes with fries, coleslaw and hush puppies). So delicious and seasoned to perfection! I've tried other fish spots around LA and nothing can compare to La Brea Seafood. It's located in a shopping center so there's always parking. The place is small so there is no dine in option (take out only). You can order there or do a phone order. If ordering there, the service is pretty fast when going before 1pm. During dinner hours.... I highly recommend ordering ahead of time and picking up.

    Filet of sole.

This place is awful. First the fried sole I ordered was impossibly thin. What I mean is there is no way a piece of fish can be this thin without significant effort being put in to slice it thin. So, you're not getting a half of fish, you're getting a quarter of a fish. I'm going to include a photo of the fish crackers I was served. Second, I ordered 6 pieces of fish and was told that only one tartar sauce comes with it and that's have to pay for more. One tiny cup of Tatar sauce for SIX pieces of fish. Really? Third, the fish has barely any flavor. It's bland and bready. I don't come on Yelp a lot, but the level of mediocre here has to be addressed. Avoid this place at all costs.

This is 1 of the 3 strios i was given. All 3 were of this size. Extremely disappointed.

The fish is good but they serve you fish strips vs a piece of fish. I orded a 3pc. In the picture attached is what they consider a pc of fish.

    Terrible customer service individuals.

Terrible customer service and disrespectful employees! I placed an online order today via Postmates. I walked to the restaurant to pick up my order and stood in their empty lobby around 4:30pm for about 5 minutes while they all goofed around in the kitchen, sang songs, and disregarded the front counter. Eventually a guy turned around and came over to assist me. After I told him I was there to pick up an online order he asked to see the info on my phone which I then showed to him. He goes "oh your phone says it's a postmates order, the order we have under your name is from Uber Eats" and I respond "not sure what that means, but I can show you where I paid on my credit card for this and the app where I placed the order" He then spoke to a woman co worker in Spanish and turns back to me and says "sorry I can't give you the order" and again I'm confused so I ask why. He says because the apps don't match, even though all of my information does. I tell him "maybe you don't know this but they're the same company" The entire crew then turned their backs and ignored me at the instruction of the larger woman working in the kitchen. See pics provided. I wasted my entire lunch break dealing with this place and also had to dispute the charge on my credit card because I don't believe these employees are honest enough to refund it on their own once they eventually realize their mistake. I've been going to this place for over 20yrs but since they have new management they're terrible. I'll NEVER give them another dime and neither will anyone I know. Disrespectful to turn your back on a customer, ignore them, and start speaking in Spanish. As black people we need to stop supporting disrespectful businesses like this and I'll be spreading the word about them through my various community contacts.

When I say this may be my new Spot! I door dashed an ordered for them yesterday. I said I would be back to try it out. At work today I door dashed an order to me from La Brea Seafood. The fish was on point, flavor was on a top notch scale! I will order again or show up in person believe that!! This place is a WINNER

Combo Dinner 5 (4pc fish, 8pc jumbo shrimp)

I was craving fried fish and was passing the Los Angeles area. I found this gem and was happy I did! This place sells fried, oysters, and shrimp fish plates. The place was open on a Sunday which is rare who friend fish markets. I got a 4 piece fish and 8 piece jumbo shrimp plate that automatic comes with two side cold coleslaw and fries with a dinner roll. There were other sides available for additional price! I paid under 25 dollars for great portion of food. I had enough to share. The service was not slow it took over half hour to get my food. So don't stop by if you're in a rush. The french fries were well seasoned but cold by the time I got it so that was disappointing! The place is small but it's in a shopping plaza so there is ample parking! No room to eat inside just to order and sit in the two chairs inside I was giving a buzzer and waited in my car! Food had great flavor and shrimp were large in size. The fish and shrimp were delicious for that alone I would drive from SFV to la just to get this again!

When we cracked the legs open, there was a thick, rubbery, shell-like layer wrapped around the meat. We assumed we had overcooked it, accepted our $350 lesson, and took it on the chin. Against my better judgment, I returned and spent nearly $385 on 2 five-pound bags of king crab and a bag of shrimp. The shrimp were fine. The crab? Same problem. Initially, I steamed a few legs for about 10 minutes and thought, "Okay, maybe I overcooked it again." Thankfully, I had only removed what I planned to eat and kept the remaining legs frozen. Today, I decided to test that theory. I removed three legs, steamed them for 5 minutes.... Literally set my timer for 5 minutes and what do you know, same exact result. As the pictures show, this is not the crab's normal thin membrane. The hard outer shell literally separates from a second, soft shell underneath it, leaving very little edible meat. I paid for king crab, not an expensive scavenger hunt for actual crab meat. At these prices, customers should not be sold poor quality, double-shelled crab legs. After spending more than $700 here across 2 visits and having the same issue each time, I'm officially done conducting experiments. This market has had multiple opportunities, and unfortunately, the crab failed every time. 3rd time's a charm because there definitely won't be a 4th

I have been eyeing Yama for quite a while and this past Monday, I was able to find the time to go! Yama Sushi Marketplace reminds of stepping into a Japanese Grocery store. Snacks lined the center of the store, while hot food, pre-packed sushi line the wall. There is also a traditional counter on the right for sashimi and fresh fish cuts. Let's talk food, I got some assorted Nigiri ($11), Salmon Nigiri ($11), some 2 packs of Chicken Yakitori 2 Skewers per pack ($4/pack), tea, and soda. It all came out to $40. Though I don't normally like to pay that much for lunch, I didn't regret it one bit. The sushi tasted so good and fresh, while the skewers were hot and meat tender. Paired with the soda it make my lunch such a nice treat. Parking can be found for free in the facility located in the back and underground. When I visited, there was a lot of parking so no issues there. If you would like to eat there, there are some small tables set up outside for you to enjoy your food. I will definitely come back again as they do have bento options, which after this last visit makes me want to be a regular. Cheers!

First off, parking is rough. The restaurant is located in a small shopping center with several other businesses sharing the same lot, so finding a space can be a challenge. Sometimes it's easier to park down the street and walk over. This also isn't really a sit-down-and-enjoy-your-meal kind of place. It's more of a grab-your-food-and-go spot. The reason I'm starting to feel differently is because the last few visits haven't been as consistent as they used to be. I remember seeing the owner around much more often, and the food quality seemed better. Lately, the fries have been darker, the fish portions sometimes feel a little small for the price, and it occasionally seems like the frying oil isn't being changed as often as it should be. The service is okay, but it's not always the friendliest. One thing I've noticed is that when I ask for the fresh house-made hot sauce instead of the prepackaged packets, it sometimes feels like I'm inconveniencing the staff, especially one guy in particular. Maybe that's not the intention, but it can come across that way. That said, I keep coming back for a reason. The fish still has great flavor, and I enjoy several of the sides. The mac and cheese is probably my favorite, the collard greens are solid, and the fries are satisfying when they're fresh. I'm hoping this place can get back to the consistency that made me a regular in the first place.
