Mine was one of the cars with a STAR, so I was not able to use the discount coupon. But then I was told the usual price was $70 but he was going to discount me to $60. Nowhere on his price list does it indicate a price of $70, so that was just hustle. Because my shop had recently hooked up to the computer, I had to drive an extra 100 miles. The gentleman that owns the shop was quite knowledgeable about cars and what was needed for them to pass a smog test. In my case, my car did not have sufficient mileage after being repaired so he told me to drive the car more (60+ miles) then bring it back in for a re-test. When I brought it back in he was kind enough to test on his scanner before charging for another test. Furthermore, after passing the re-@test, he was even more kind by reducing the price a bit for the re-test. read more

The service is deceitful and dishonest. I suggest you read the negative comments first, don't just read the positive ones. They are a rip off. They charge you $80 for a simple and EXTREMELY FAST smog check (Which in average takes 10 minutes to do, if they took 3 minutes I'd be probably exaggerating because they must have done it in 2 minutes) and yes, they wanted to charge me $80. When I confronted him about it he lowered the price to $60 playing the typical "I am doing you a favor". Be careful, because it doesn't matter if your car is a later 2000's car or older, it doesn't cost $80 bucks. Now, to begin with their English skills are limited so don't waste your time trying to argue or ask direct questions about the coupons, they'll try to evade them by playing the common game and I didn't understand a word about what he was saying. The only think I understood was: "You car has a star".... I have no idea what that is. Only thing I know is, my car is a hybrid. Then, don't even waste your time bringing a COUPON, they won't take it. They'll make you believe that they're doing you a favor and will lower it to $60 bucks (which is the average price elsewhere, I am sure you can find cheaper than that outside of the Hollywood area). Just so you know, there is no Yelp coupon available anymore and the price for the smog check came out to $70. They only charged me $40 total with the coupon, which is the cheapest in the area. The guy who did the smog check was also nice and very efficient. It took less than 20 minutes. To make it even quicker, bring your old registration or bill from the DMV for registration renewal so they can get your car's info from there. I got my coupon from www.smogtips.com. When getting a smog check using a coupon, the total price is the coupon + certificate, etc. fees, so when you do your search, make sure you check with the establishment what the total price will be. Again, this place is only $40. With coupons or deals at other places, for a newer car it's $50--so this place at $40 is much better. In response to the bad review, if your car is older than a 1995 model, EVERY other place ALSO charges extra... so it is not unique to this location. Also, the place is relatively small on the corner of La Brea and Lexington, so I'm not sure where they even have the space to "drive all cars like crazy" per Linda Y. read more
