Drove up on a Sunday for a smog check with no appointment and waited around 30 minutes (they were in the middle of working on another car when I got there.) The owner made sure to update me on timing to make sure I was aware of how much longer it would take. As soon as they started the process, it took about 5-10 minutes so it was super fast! Everything was processed and automatically updated in the DMV database within 24 hours. Everyone was safe and wearing masks, including the mechanic who was working in hot cars under the sun with no-one around him. I felt very safe there! Total cost for a smog check was $50 for me. They're located right across the street from some cafes (I believe) so you can get some food/drinks while you're waiting if you don't want to sit around and wait. I'd definitely return as it's fairly close to where I'm staying, fast, and friendly! read more

I found these guys on yelp - thanks everyone! I moved a few months ago to a new part of LA and my old mechanic is now about 6 miles away. I knew at least one of my brake pads had worn down and I needed to get it fixed. I called my old mechanic to get a price. Then I called Express Auto Shop and ended up speaking with Sam. He quoted me a great price. And you all had given them great reviews. So, I decided to chance it and go to this new mechanic. I told them if it looked like the front pads were precariously low, they should replace them as well and also they told me if I'd damaged the rotors, I'd need new ones. I was fully expecting to pay for new brake pads on all four brakes (two axles) and new rotors, at least on the back, where I assumed I'd messed up that one. Sam told me on the phone that if I got the car there by 10 am they could take care of it by 3 pm. I dropped the car just before 10, on my way to a meeting (thanks Lyft, for the assist). Sam said they would check everything out and let me know what needed to be done. I spoke with him about 90 minutes later - between meetings - and he said: no problem, we just need to replace the brake pads for the back, not the front, and the rotors are fine. So, I ended up having to only have the bare minimum amount of work done. He didn't try to upsell me (you know, "well, you could it now, so you don't have to worry later") and he didn't BS me and tell me I needed all new brake pads when I didn't. I super appreciated that. And then he told me the car would be ready by 2. After my next meeting, my colleague dropped me off at Express to pick up the car. Price matched what I was originally quoted on the phone by Sam. And, everything seems to be working great with the car / brakes. Definitely will check with them first the next time my car needs a repair or service! read more

I dont usually rate but this time, I will. To save you guys. If you own German car, dont go there. If you have transmission problem, dont go there either. Paid around $600 for my oil leak from engine and transmission. They repaired it. The next day, it leaks in same spot plus I got ENGINE LIGHT on. They Couldn't fix Engine light nor transmission leak. They now referred another repair shop in other place. What? What about the price I paid for? Came to dealer now to properly fix. They spot the problem right away and got it fixed. Fantastic service, Sam and his staff were extraordinarily helpful. They changed my brakes and rotors, the company that I bought the package from sent in the wrong size, these guys had to put the old brakes/rotors back on the car while the company got it right and sent in the right ones. I was told 150 for my brake pad replacement initially; unfortunately, the pad for my car (Infiniti) ended up being more expensive than what they'd initially anticipated. Brought my car in to get a tire patched that had a very slow leak. I called first and they said come on in. When i arrived an hour later everyone was at lunch so i had to leave my car for over an hour. The guys here were very nice and removed the nail and plugged the hole in the tire for $10. The next day my tire was completely flat and since i don't live in So Cal i had to take it to another shop who told me the hole wasn't patched properly. The new shop fixed it in 10 minutes and i haven't had an issue since. Complete waste of time and $ here. read more

This animals loosen up the screws of my tire because i didnt end up leaving my car in their shop to fix since i noticed they were running a scam on me and super over charging me and didnt give them the bussiness but since my car was left there for a estimate they loosen the screws of my tire and it ended up cutting off and jumping out of the car while i was driving in the freeway, a huge lawsuit is on the way and i will press charges with proofe , if you like not only your hard earned money but your life stay away from this scammers . read more

My car failed its smog check and I went to Express Auto Shop for repairs after reading the good reviews for this place on Yelp. I spoke with Sam and Victor and they were able to help me get a new catalytic converter for my '92 BMW for a fraction of what the dealer would charge. The previous mechanic I visited was not able to diagnose the problem with my car at all, so I wasted 2 days there, as well as having to take a few hours off from work. Sam and Victor both seemed like honest guys, and they really helped me out. I also had my oil and fluids changed/replenished while my car was in the shop for an additional $33. I would go back to Express again, even though it's a long drive for me to get there. An honest and good mechanic is hard to find, so when you find one, you stick with him! read more

I needed a brake & light certificate for my car, and after calling multiple body shops in LA this was the cheapest place I found. Everyone else quoted me around $100 and up, and this body shop quoted me $75. When I got there, the guy even knocked off $5 and made it $70 flat. It took a couple of hours to get it done which is probably more than enough time needed, but they were busy and I did show up unexpectedly. They stuck to their word and gave me what I needed in 2 hours. I left happy & satisfied. Winner! read more

Here's a story for you. This WAS my go to auto shop. I brought my car in 2 weeks ago because my engine light was on, they diagnosed and replaced the mass airflow sensor for ~$450. Last week my car overheats on the 10 fwy and I was towed back home by AAA. The tow truck guy offered to check what the issue was and saw that my cooling fan wasnt even connected and found that the connecting cable tucked away among some other cables. I was shocked. The tow truck guy was shocked, he said that it was fishy because fixing the mass airflow sensor has nothing to do with the cooling fan so why was it disconnected in the first place? Probably cause they wanted me to go back to "replace" an expensive part because I'm clueless about cars. Dont go there if you need something other than oil changes! read more

These guys do get the job done for a fair price. But. They are awful and communicating when they can start and finish a job. This can be very frustrating. At this point I trust these guys somewhat. So I would say you could go here without that knot in your stomach that you are about to get screwed. Only time will tell. Have not had anyone work on my car since I moved to Los Angeles. Had a really nasty sound coming from the back wheels. I called on Thursday morning to ask about dropping my car off after work when they were closed. They said "park it out front and leave the key". I drove over there that evening and was frustrated to find nowhere around the shop to leave my car. Their whole lot was gated and locked and it was FULL of cars. I assume they wanted me to leave the car on the sidewalk blocking the front gate, but I was not about to do that. Ended up getting a ride to work the next morning and having a friend drop the car off the next day (Fri). They didn't actually work on it until Monday morning. I couldn't pick it up until Tues. All that said, they did offer me a discount on the work. It was really affordable and the car is running fine. Thus the four stars- I really cant complain. The guys in there are actually really nice. All said and done, I'll be headed back but will plan things a bit better next time. read more

Had some oil leaking from my 06 330i and rather than do some unnecessary work, he suggested a less expensive option to save money. Although it took awhile to get my car back, dropped it off Sunday and got it back Wednesday, Sam explained the whole situation and didn't make me pay for anything that didn't get fixed.
