They have a great variety of paletas! I'm a fan of paletas but refuse to spend $4-5 when I can buy them wholesale for a lot less.

One time my best friend came to town, we made it a point to try a few new dessert spots in the city and La Brisa was our 2nd stop on his 2nd day. They have a small retail area where you'll find several coolers filled with various flavors of ice cream bars, fruit bars, ice sticks, and yogurt. One of the coolers has fruit paletas that are chocolate dipped. They also have a spice flavored fruit bar line called El diabolito. Not all the items are made by La Brisa though, so you have to look at the packages carefully. The far left coolers have paletas from mexico which are smaller and cheaper when you buy by the dozen. They also have ice cream sandwiches, but they're made by Highland Dairy, not La Brisa. By the register are 3 flavors of ice cream in parfait cups: mangonada, cookies and cream and coconut, if you don't like eating ice cream on a stick. I tried the cookies and cream, watermelon (El Pinguino which is made by La Brisa), and banana. The banana was by far the best of the three. Coconut is their best seller, which I have eaten many times since they sell it at Taqueria Del Sol on Park Place. Definitely a neat little factory to stop and visit if you like ice cream or fruit bars when in Houston. They don't do tours at the moment, maybe one day though. read more

If you want the best Mexican or just regular popsicles here is the source. I use to see these at stores and in the freezers of my favorite restaurants. I googled the name and boom, turns out they are down the street. So many flavors and the taste is beyond good! Im a sucker for chamoy, tamarindo, coffee, cookies and cream, watermelon etc. They got it all and they are about $1 each. Go get a few dozen! read more

I was craving paletas earlier and decided to yelp the closest paleta place. I was a bit skeptical if this place still existed because of the lack of reviews and images, so I called the place to make sure. There's a variety of fruit and ice cream bars. The more you buy, the cheaper the bundle. I originally got 8, but the cashier highly suggested that I should get 12 because it would be the same price (each popsicle is $1, a dozen is $8) I ate the mango con chile, very refreshing, not too sweet, the popsicle wasn't too hard, maybe because I waited until I got home to eat it. There's a nice kick from the chile, when you get near the bottom the kick becomes slightly intense so brace yourself. My only con is I wish the store had more unique flavors like the one I went to in Spring Branch. Overall, I enjoyed my paleta and can't wait to try the rest of the flavors. read more

This has been the best place to get paletas since I was young, my favorite flavor is watermelon, so when I finally come back to the neighborhood, years later, and I walk in to get paletas I see my watermelon flavor and it's not even La Brisa. La Brisa was selling their competitors paletas, La Sabrosita. It's like the coke company selling Pepsi, which would never happen. So what the hell, was going on? "The heart wants what the heart wants" is a common phrase for explaining away a non-logical course of action. In my particular case, my heart wanted some ice cream on a chilly sunny January Sunday afternoon after a full day of chores, including detailing the car*. After scrolling through dozens of Yelp listings, I settled on this place, which is actually the factory where they make paletas (popsicles in English) that end up being sold by roving bicycle pushcarts. Sure, I could have gone to the local ice cream shop but where's the fun in going to a sterile Baskin-Robbins, a corporate earthy-crunchy Ben & Jerry's, or even to a suburban blandsville Marble Slab? Plus, I wanted something simple. The website showed that the retail shop had about 25 different flavors. Some traditional and some were more culturally distinctive but here's a sampling: vanilla, mango, mango con chile, coconut, pecan, chamoy, guayaba, lemon, lemon con chile, pina colada, pineapple, melon, yogurt, tamarindo, and tamarindo con chile. So, there's something for your white-bread friends as well as your more diverse palates. The factory is located deep in the Magnolia Park neighborhood: it is nearly at the end of Canal, where it runs into the Ship Channel. There's nothing dangerous about the area other than it may offend your River Oaks friends for having the gall to be less wealthy. There are 3 stone picnic tables outside if you wanted to enjoy your paleta after purchase. When I walked in, there were signs that offered pricing for up to 11 paletas, a discounted price if you bought more than a dozen, and even more discount if you bought larger quantities. I'm a glutton for ice cream and love a good bargain but I was able to restrain myself to buying only 2 paletas (more because my waistline couldn't afford more calories) - I chose the coconut and the pecan. Each costs $1, tax inclusive. The young man at the counter confirmed for me that they get more visitors in the warmer months but all are welcome anytime. They're open from 8 to 5 every day. Sitting outside at one of the tables, I enjoyed the pecan since it was loaded with nuts - think of butter pecan flavor but in popsicle form. The coconut was refreshingly simple and tropical. So, if your heart is looking for something simply satisfying with a bit of adventure, take a little trip to this hidden nook and enjoy the experience. I'm going to go rogue next time and have a flavor "con chile" next time. * I'll admit that the vinyl protectant for the car smells a bit like coconut. That may have triggered a subliminal response in me for that coconut paleta. I'm just glad the car product didn't smell like stinky feet - otherwise, I'd be afraid of what I would have craved. read more

This was my first paleta experience and I was blown away. All bars are $1 and stay frozen for a good amount of time after being bought. You MUST try the cookies and cream! This place is really a find. I was leading a bike ride through the East Side and wanted to find a fun place for a rest stop that was different than the ones we've been going to. There were 22 of us, so we bought two dozen assorted ice cream and fruit bars. Everybody got one and a few people ate more than one. they were all delicious. We will definitely keep this on our list of favorite stops in the East Side. read more
