    Beef Pho
    Jim M.

The interior was clean and spacious. I ordered the beef pho and was surprised that it was served in a black plastic togo bowl. The broth wasn't hot enough for my liking, especially because it was a cold day. It took about 20 minutes for my order, which was the least of my complaints. Something to consider if you're in a time crunch.

La Cà Café is the sister restaurant to La Cà Bar in Tacoma, one of my favorite restaurants to frequent. The cafe definitely has a more laid back vibe, which makes sense because it caters more to the college scene with PLU nearby. The bar near 6th Ave is definitely more of a late night party spot, with a full bar upstairs and TouchTunes always blasting. I was in the area and was looking for a spot to work and take a couple of meetings and realized their new location had quietly opened and that I hadn't tried it yet! I went on a weekday around lunch time and there was probably only a handful of people that came and went during my couple hour stay. Serving style is definitely more casual than at their bar location, with the food (even for dine in) being served in to-go packaging. I went with their beef pho and an order of spring rolls. Their pho always hits the spot for me, but at the cafe the noodles were definitely more on the mushy side. The broth could've been hotter as well (maybe because of the plastic packaging?) The spring rolls were the same quality as I've had before which was good! The pho, even though not as stellar as I've had from them in the past, still hit the spot on a cold afternoon. I'm not in the area of Tacoma too often, but definitely would come back for more remote working sessions + lunch if I were.

This modern Vietnamese restaurant is located near the Pacific Lutheran University campus, so it is designed to be a fast-casual type of eatery. It was not busy at all when my sister and I stopped by. We were almost hesitant about coming in because we couldn't tell if they were open since this place opened recently from what it looks like. We ordered the spring rolls with shrimp and pork to share between us. Then, we each got our own grilled chicken rice bowl. My sister also ordered a Thai iced tea. Overall, the food was good. I thought it was interesting that the rice bowl was served with kimchi since that isn't traditionally a Vietnamese side dish. The pricing for the food a bit more expensive when comparing it to an authentic Vietnamese restaurant.

We were staying in Lakewood and needed a good spot to go for lunch that had outdoor seating for Gino the dog. Was happy to find this great Vietnamese spot with one of the best Tofu Bahn Mi's I've ever had!! The tofu was unbelievably flavorful and all the ingredients were super fresh. Husband got the grilled pork and a Vietnamese coffee, both of which were excellent. Staff was very kind and friendly, immediately felt welcomed. It's a casual spot, great for lunch. Would highly recommend!!

We stopped in on Saturday afternoon while our daughter was at a P.L.U. soccer camp, and WOW! We had a tastebud treat!! The young man who took our order suggested the pork over the chicken, and we are so glad we choose to go with that recommendation! While it took about 15 minutes, the food was hot and the ingredients were fresh, crisp, and full of flavor! We were almost the only people in the restaurant, so it was pretty quiet. There was a tv on, but it wasn't loud at all. If our daughter chooses to attend P.L.U., this would definitely be someplace we would visit often!

Very clean. Great ambiance with a fantastic menu. Not sure why the Banh mi was made using toaster oven up front. Took a really long time and was decent-not great. Iced coffee was excellent. Service was exceptional.

Food was okay, the grilled pork was better than the cold cut. $10.50 for a banh mi is a little crazy but everything is expensive now a days. I was able to use bogo coupon so I can't complain. Very cute and clean interior would be a fun/cozy hangout spot. Service was great very kind people working here. You should definitely try this place out if you're around the area. i'm kinda interested in trying the pho and seeing how it tastes next.

I could not hear my family over a 4 person table, coz it doubles as a bar upstairs. But its clean, and decorated well. There's just enough seating for people to come have food. BTW, parking is shared w a market, there was barely any parking when I got there. The parking is also a little narrow, especially when people dont park correctly. Service: very good. They were quick and friendly. No complaints. Food: love the food here. I had the quail fried rice thay came with salad and a side of the pho broth. Broth is flavorful, so Im sure the pho is good. The quail was also marinated nicely, with a tomato based fried rice which was not oily, and just the right amount of flavor. We also ordered two orders of spring rolls, which was more than we thought! One order is the one plate of 2 spring rolls cut in half - so four pieces. Pleasant surprise i suppose, more spring rolls!

We arrived around 9 PM on a Thursday; I picked this restaurant because we were all craving Vietnamese food, and thankfully La Cà Bar is open late enough that we were still able to spend time eating together over a yummy meal. We sat downstairs since we were there primarily for the food and wanted to actually sit down and eat together. It was pretty empty when we arrived aside from one table, and we were able to seat ourselves wherever we wanted. They close at midnight, so arriving around 9 PM still gave us plenty of time to order, eat, and enjoy ourselves without feeling rushed. And then we proceeded to order an unreasonable amount of food. Everything we tried was delicious. The spring rolls were definitely superb (especially when dipped in the sauce), and I highly recommend getting a few for the table because apparently my family and I devoured them ASAP while waiting for our main course. I had to get the Bánh Xèo, because I have absolutely no self-control when I see it on a menu. The crepe was savory, filling, and delicious. Since it was cold that night, I also ordered Bún Bò Huế, because apparently being cold means I need to consume an entire bowl of spicy soup. I personally missed the classic cubes of pork blood that I usually expect in Bún Bò Huế, but it was still flavorful and satisfying without them. I also noticed the food here leans more toward Northern Vietnamese-style cuisine, but everything we had was still really tasty. I somehow managed to finish most of my food despite ordering enough to feed a second family. My family enjoyed their meals too. My son got a bánh mì without the garnish and was impressed by how huge and satisfying it was. Teenagers can be difficult to impress, so when the teenager says the bánh mì is huge and good, I listen. Our server was also really nice and friendly, which made the whole experience even better. Now, parking... Oh, sweet Jesus. The parking lot is TIGHT. The surrounding streets aren't particularly spacious either. If you have an SUV like myself, or anything larger, prepare yourself. I was genuinely relieved when I got back into my car and discovered that my vehicle had survived the evening without acquiring any new battle scars. But honestly? Worth it. The best part for me was how nostalgic the food felt. Vietnam is the country where I was born, so getting to sit down with my family and eat Vietnamese street food that reminded me of home was really special. We live far from where I grew up, so finding food that brings back even a little bit of that familiarity means a lot. And after moving away, I really appreciate those little moments where a meal can transport you somewhere for a couple of hours. So yes, 5 stars. Great late-night option, delicious food, friendly service, generous portions, and a menu that scratched the Vietnamese food itch perfectly.

Well that day has come. We ended up staying at a hotel nearby for a friend's wedding. We were getting hungry and I luckily checked Yelp and saw that I bookmarked this place when it showed up on my nearby food list. What a crazy coincidence. So we drive over and park on a side street. There was a small line outside and we waited patiently for a few minutes. Once inside, we were seated at the counter and it was packed, a little hot and everything smelled delicious. My friend and I both ordered the duck and pork noodle soup and it was maybe the best noodle soup I've ever had. The pork had crispy skin, the duck was soft and flavorful. It was all just so delicious. The iced coffee was strong and sweet. We also got the dessert. Make sure to add durian if they ask. It made it 1000x better if that's even possible. Honestly one of the best meals I've ever had. I'd definitely be back if I'm ever in Tacoma again.

The dining area is quite small, so I usually order to go. The food itself is good. The barbecue duck is flavorful and reasonably priced around 35 dollars for a whole duck, and the roast pork at around 16 dollars per pound is also a good value. I really like their broken rice, and the pickled jalapeños with sauce makes the meal feel complete. However, the dining experience has some challenges. The space can get crowded, ventilation isn't great, and seating by the door can be uncomfortable. Service also feels stretched at times, since the same person may be cooking, handling chairs and serving. I'd give it four stars. The food is worth trying, but improvements in seating, airflow, and service would make it a better overall experience.

They took it back and picked most of it out, but there was still quite a bit at the bottom of the soup. I really don't like cilantro, so I tried my best to eat around it. Despite that, the broth was AMAZING. It had the perfect spicy kick and so much flavor. The noodles were cooked perfectly, and the crab balls tasted like they were made with real crab. They also gave me a generous amount of meat, which I loved! The fresh coconut was also so good! Since we're in Washington, we probably won't get the freshest coconut like you would somewhere tropical, but it definitely did the job. Very clear and flavorful broth -a bit heavy on the aromatic spices and I mean that in a good way. It tasted great. I ordered the shrimp pho and substituted for beef broth. Very delicious. I love that there was a to-go big bowl with the noodles so I could pour the broth directly in there. It was the size of a Korean instant noodle bowl and it did the trick. Bean sprouts were on the side. I didn't get the cilantro or jalapeños, but it tasted good enough that I wasn't upset. They did put in the green and white onions I requested and they were fresh. We also ordered the crispy chicken vermicelli and the box was quite full. They give you your money's worth, which I appreciate since so many restaurants short-change you on food quantity when ordering to-go. Not here! The chicken is crispy and not at all greasy. My husband ordered the gyoza/potstickers, walnut shrimp and rice --all appetizer sized and we are happy with the flavor and quality of all of them. Overall, definitely recommend!
