    Bun bo hue

This spot is definitely a mom & pop shop! This is more of a home cooked meal feel. So if that's what you're looking for, this is your spot. I really enjoyed the bun Bo hue here. The flavors of it were perfect. These were the only two items I've tried. The meat in the rice plate however isn't the juicy type of cut meat though, on the more dried side which isn't my preference but my partner enjoys it like that. I'd definitely come back and give it a try if you're in the area. But like I said, it's as if you're going home to your parents cooking so don't expect high end dining or anything extravagant. The inside of the restaurant is filled with the uncles and aunties so it really fulfills the mom and pop vibes.

Came from out of state and had to try the banh mi sandwich after hearing so many great reviews! The place was already pretty packed when I arrived, which says a lot for a smaller restaurant. Parking is limited--you'll likely need to find a spot along the street--but it's manageable. Customer service was a bit on the slower side, probably due to how busy it was, but everyone was friendly once we got seated. The food definitely lived up to the hype--fresh, flavorful, and worth the wait. Overall, a nice and decent spot that's worth checking out if you're in the area!

My friend and coworker had been telling me about this place for a couple of years now so it's been on my radar for a while. I drove down to Tacoma to run an errand and since I was close I decided to stop by. It's everything you imagine from a local mom & pop style restaurant. The tables were filled with people and families. Chatter amongst all the guests. Uncles outside gathered together smoking their cigarettes after a nice satisfying meal. I walked in and was immediately greeted. After a quick assessment that there was no where to sit, I was told I could sit anywhere outside. Before I went to my table I ordered at the cashier. I ordered a bun Bo hue and a banh mi to go. The bun Bo hue was delicious and authentic. The broth was light yet bold. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the meat was fresh. My greedy ass just wish there had been a few more slices. I added lots of chili oil bc I like mine spicy. The banh mi bread was super fresh. Nice chew but tender and a nice crust. Definitely good eats and if in the area, I'd come back!

Solid family owned spot. Been coming here since 2012 and it's always consistent. Will stop in to grab a Banh Mi and Vietnamese coffee Togo and when I have time I sit down for the Bun Oc and Bun Bo Hue. This place is a gem in Tacoma

If you need a quick breakfast, you can go here. If you miss the coffee shop vibe in vietnam, you can go here.

This place is a small mom & pop shop with a couple tables. best bun bo hue I've had in a minute! It has everything a BBH should have. I ordered takeout and was blown away by the flavor of the soup. The guy that cashed me out up front was very nice as well. Definitely going to come back to try the sandwiches and drinks!

Where else can you buy pho and lotto tickets?! Walking in, the rough signage boasts this location has produced multiple $10k winners. Of course, you gotta buy one. Or two lol. This is as divey as it gets. The front counter is a mesmerizing mess of mess. Bathroom do not go in. Sticky tables. Pho came out hot but a bit on the oily side. Average Bahn Mi. Street residental parking is very limited and so narrow you wonder if your car will be safe from a side swipe. Our tickets were not winners. Oh well, c'est la vie Cafe La Vie.

The real deal for sure. Perfect sandwich, coffee and they even give you an iced tea while you wait.

Amazing tofu bahn mi sandwich. Hands down the best. I remember eating this when I was a kid 30yrs ago. They use to be located on China town

This is without question the best bánh mì in the south Sound--and better than much of what you'll find in Seattle.

We saw this little sandwich shop we hadn't seen before and decided to check it out. The atmosphere is very nice, casual, and comfortable. It looks like it would be good to sit and do homework, have lunch with some friends, or go to a casual brunch with family. There are lots of seating choices: a couch and comfy chairs, high tables and stools, and regular tables. One table had a puzzle started you could work on and there were lots of games and books you could use. You order at the counter, they deliver food to your table and there is a place to bus your own table. The beverage menu included coffee and alcoholic beverages. They offered sandwiches, crepes, pastries and soup. We ordered coffee, a pastry, soup, and order of crepes to be eaten there. The coffee was fine served in a nice mug. The cookie was large but packaged in a plastic bag that would have been ok if we had been a to go order. But we were eating there so we either had to put it directly on the table or on the plastic bag. The tomato soup was very tasty, creamy with a little kick of spice. It had occasional chunks of tomato and visible pieces of basil. All of this goodness was overshadowed because it was served in a small ramekin, the type cooks use to portion food when they are preparing a recipe. It appeared we were getting a large taste of soup instead of a cup of soup. For some reason I assumed the savory crepes would be fresh and warm, but instead my order was made with premade cold crepes loosely wrapped around the mostly cheese filling. Taken as a whole we left disappointed. The atmosphere was nice enough that I will try this place again and try something else. I hope for better because it looks like it could be a great place to eat and hang with friends.

A…read morelot of places don't hang around too long and that spot in particular has seemed hard to keep in business. But then we looked cross the street on 1st, where there used to be an Anthem, and even though it was already 6pm, this sandwich shop was still open and...there was a BINGO game happening. Whaddya know? So we took a peak in and they were not only serving sandwiches but they also had a cooler full of microbrews and kombuchas, beer on tap, wine, and a whole list of cocktails made from prosecco and other non-hard liquors like Amaro. Truly something for everyone. So we gave our order to the sweet human at the counter and took our seats I'm not kidding, my Amaro sour was one of the best cocktails I've had in a while in Tacoma and so were the pretzel sticks. I want my cocktails cold, tart, and refreshing with a little kick of funk or herbs and I want my pretzels salty. You wouldn't think that's such a high bar to clear but you'd be surprised. Sandwich Starr nailed it. Our Zatan sandwich was tasty but even though the bread felt a little stale. Otherwise the decor is kinda '90s coffee house and they've got bingo! Overall, this is an odd spot but the drinks are really good and it's got heart and it's the heart that makes it Tacoma.

No welcome or anything or a "hey just sit anywhere you want". So I just took initiative, grabbed a menu and sat at an empty table. There's a sign that said "order at the bar" but the barkeep would go to other people and ask what they wanted. Okay, that's fine... Trying to follow the rules so I don't single myself out, I went to the bar and was asked for my ID, but why? I wasn't ordering drinks and when other people came, the barkeep didn't ask the other customers for their ID so I felt some type of way but whatever. We proceed to order the Philly and Mac & Cheese. Philly tasted great because it also came with dipping sauce. The only thing lacking was that I felt it wasn't enough. Plus It seemed like I had more bread as opposed to meat. Mac & Cheese was great also, it was soft and creamy plus it had crunchy bits. It had the consistency of valveeta cheese. We asked for the check, we waited, waited some more so I finally went to the bar and closed the tab that I didn't order drinks with, just food. I like the vibe, its like being in a classic tattoo studio with posters on the wall with classical prints from different time periods. Not a big establishment or room inside but just enough to have a modest amount of 30 people. It's a nice joint but not really for me, I'd probably order through Uber eats with this place.
