My wife and I were in town for a conference and were looking for a place for dinner beyond the chain restaurants and saw the great reviews for La Calle. We were extremely impressed by the food and the service. A family owned and operated restaurant with a passion for the Mexican food that they serve. The salmon dish that I had was exquisite! Very mediocre. I was super bummed given all these great reviews. We tried almost all the tacos and weren't impressed by any- mostly flavorless. Quesadilla was ok. And to top it off, happy hour portions were ridiculously small (ceviche, guac). read more

Great authentic Mexican food- careful and complex dishes rather than Tex-mex or taco truck fare (not that there's anything wrong with Tex mex or taco truck fare!!!). The mole is especially delicious. We had an octopus salad with nopales was a big hit with the adults and the thirteen year old at the table. They're very friendly and the service is good and we loved the food. This restaurant exceeded my expectations and I can't believe it wasn't packed when we went. We explored the soup and appetizers and couldn't pick a favorite as it was all so good. Mexican food with a very modern flair, so if you're looking for a dinner of boring beef or chicken tacos and enchiladas, this isn't the place for you. The goat cheese and beet salad with chimichurri sauce was tasty, the tlacoyo probably had the most Mexican flavor to it, and the quest frito was excellent but then again, who doesn't love fried cheese! Delicious Mexican fusion spot centrally located in downtown Baltimore. The tacos, mushroom quesadilla, and mixed salad were tasty, filling, and most importantly, incredibly fresh. The service is impeccable and warm--exactly what you'd hope for from a family owned and operated spot. We met some friends here for a late brunch on Saturday. Friends were running late, so we had a chance to chat with the staff, who were super friendly! We asked a lot of questions about menu items, and got detailed info about the Oaxacan coffee, what cactus leaf is and how it's prepared, and the cheeses used for queso dip. We had several appetizers between us before our brunch menu selections, and everything was delicious, beautifully presented, and fresh! They've only been open for a month and don't yet have a liquor license, but they encourage BYO until they do...shouldn't be a deal breaker if you're into really good Mexican food and attentive wait staff! Flavorful cuisine that goes beyond just tacos, rice and beans. We stopped here for lunch on our way through on a road trip. Outer sign is still in the process of being hung so it's a little tricky to spot but worth the stop. Ordered an octopus/cactus/tomato/onion appetizer - everything was so tender and cooked to perfection. The beet appetizer with pumpkin seeds and goat cheese was delicious too. You can taste the care that goes into each dish! Friendly service too. We got the chance to talk with the chef's brother, who served us. The place is opened by two brothers who take great pride in what they produce in the kitchen and I am so glad it is nearby where we live. The menu is a little limited but we have liked literally every thing on the menu. It is a fairly new restaurant so they are very personal with their customers and dishes. so good! el diablo cocktail was super spicy and delicious. mushroom quesadilla was delicious. very small portion of guacamole for $7 and it was just okay. i got the dish w mussels shrimp and fried pasta and it was incredible, i've never had anything like it, i wanted to drink the sauce. my partner got the poblano mole w chicken and it was also delicious. the bread pudding w toasted coconut flakes was also soooo good. read more

I will keep it short. I lived in Texas for 23 years and love good Mexican food, which is something that is hard to find in Baltimore. This is the best, most authentic, Mexican cuisine I have encountered in Baltimore. The restaurant is nicely appointed with warm contemporary wood architecture. The staff are friendly, casual and engaging. The chicken mole is amazing and the house margarita is as good as it gets. If you love Mexican food, you really need to try La Calle. read more

I stopped in here will after 3 o'clock on an afternoon. They said the restaurant was closed for lunch, but they would accommodate me with what they had ready and available. I had was some of the best fish tacos I've ever had. Luis was very kind and friendly and the place was classy. This is absolutely not your typical Mexican restaurant. Do not come here for frozen taquitos, guac, and chips and salsa. Instead, come for authentic (as far as I know) dishes. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food, this is your place! We were staying around the corner at a hotel when I found this gem on yelp. I didn't come to Baltimore to eat at a chain restaurant so this was a wonderful place. They don't have a kids' menu but we're able to make tacos and quesadillas for my kids which they loved (my son is picky about the cheese in a quesadilla and he was loving this particular one). I ended up ordering three apps instead of an entree because I couldn't make up my mind. I ordered some queso fundido with chorizo, some crab, corn, mayo combo and a shrimp ceviche. All fresh and tasty...had to stop myself from eating it all! Also had a margarita that hit the spot...nice and fresh without that after taste that you get from a bad margarita. If I'm ever back in town, I'd come here again to try some other dishes. Waiter was super nice and accommodating too! read more
