This is the worst customer service that I have ever experienced! I so agree with Liz F. As a family, we go to La Campana at least 2 times a week for 10 plus years. We have never experienced this poor service. I believe either they have a new cook or they must be having a bad month. The hamburger was raw and showed pink-which of course was used in every plate we ordered. Had it taken back and ordered similar item..but get this they charged me for both items!! And yes you guessed it..the hamburger was still raw. Ended up paying for both and the manager wouldn't even talk or look at us. Never again..Shame on you!! read more

We had the worst experience ever at La Campaña and we have been loyal customers for years!!! We ordered two menudo out of five plates, and menudo was extremely salty and the other plate were good. Our waitress was kind and took the plates back and even offered the menus to order other plates. Later we were informed that the owner told them we could not order anything else even though we were willing to pay for the 2 menudos and the new orders....so basically we got kicked out and 2 people in our party didn't even eat. The explanation was because we would make everything salty and that's why we couldn't order. The best part is that the owner never even had the nerve to talk to us or show her face. I hate that there are haters of La Campana, but it's understandable that out-of-towners wouldn't appreciate this hole in the wall the way the rest of us do. The homemade salsa is not for the faint of heart, but there is plenty on the menu for all tastes. Some of the staff members don't speak English well or at all, so be prepared to be patient when ordering. This is especially true if you call in an order. The atmosphere is a bit sterile, but the owners have made a lot of improvements over the years and who cares when the food is delicious? If you go during lunch, expect to have a wait and expect that wait to take place standing in front of the door. The restaurant is tiny and doesn't have a real waiting area. read more

What a rip off!!!! I recently ate here for lunch and was impressed by the low prices and the authenticity of the food. UNTIL I went to pay for my meal. I ordered combination chicken/beef fajitas which were listed on the menu for $8.50. However, when the waitress rang me up she told me that my total was over $16.00!! I asked her why it so much and she told me that it cost extra because I had the combination instead of just one meat. I wish she would have told me about that when I ordered! " By the way if you order it this way it will cost double!" I don't plan to go back here anytime soon. I'm very dissapointed. read more

This place has *the* best cheese enchiladas I've ever had in my life. They actually have flavor and are not just a bunch of melted cheese - think of it as a bunch of melted cheese, plus an extra helping of fucking awesome! The beans and rice are really good, too. Aside from the enchiladas, the rest of the food was above average. I got the "sample" platter (forgot the official name of it,) and it came with an enchilada, chile relleno, a taco and I think something else. It was all good, but that enchilada was so mind-bendingly good that I never order anything else. Their house salsa is the best I've ever had (and I consider myself a hard-to-please salsa connoisseur) - hot as fuck and super delicious. You can bring in your own container and they only charge you $1.99 per 8 oz.'s, so you can take home the transcendental magic. The best thing is, this place is CHEAP, especially if you get the specials - they're $4.50 (Wednesday is enchilada day, baby!) The rest of the meals are right around $6.50, which is pretty good, considering it's enough food to make you want to fall asleep no matter what time of day it is. All in all, I think this is the only restaurant I'm going to miss when I leave Amarillo (now that the Boondocks sucks.) Come, eat, nap. PS - I don't know who said they accept credit cards - there's a sign on the front door saying they don't. Maybe this is a recent change, but make sure to bring cash. read more

Decided after reading the good and mediocre reviews that it was time to see for myself how this place was. First impression was the place could be cleaner and have better service. I did wipe the table off with a hand wipe after sitting down. With the delivery of the chips and salsa, things began to change. Salsa was good, somewhat hotter and taster than most. The food was also good, but as with most Tex-Mex places basically average. Because of the location, comfort of the place and service, is not a place I would advise roadside travelers to stop for a one time meal, but for locals a good option to put in their Tex-Mex rotation. read more

Yikes! After many great experiences at La Campana, today we had a misstep. Food was delicious, as usual. We ordered our meal and drinks, but the waitress never brought the drinks. She dropped off our order super fast, and we assumed she went off to get our drinks- nope! She never came back to check on us the entire time we ate, yet checked on tables across from us several times. Why didn't we yell for her? We really wanted to see how long it would take her to come back. I would have never guessed that she wouldn't come back at all. When we went to pay, she started ringing up our drinks- I told her she never brought our drinks and she asked "do you want them now?" Of course we don't! Anyway if I could have I would have tipped the cook but not her. Waitressing is not for those with short-term memories. But the food (especially the hot sauce and guacamole) was delicious today. I was just reading the other reviews. Here is my two cents worth. I have eaten at every mexican restaurant in Amarillo. There are three that I regularly recommend to friends and visitors. Of the three, La Campaña is my personal favorite. The breakfast dish I like the most is their flat enchiladas with two eggs on top. Along with the best salsa in town and hot chips, they can't be beaten. The really good news is I live on their side of town. Enjoy!!! read more

There's Mexican food and there's Tex-Mex. If you're looking for Mexican food, you're going to be disappointed. If you're looking for Tex-Mex, this is your place. Atmosphere is common among other "Mexican" restaurants here in town. Mellow and simple. Food is okay, although a bit overpriced. Food is also not, in our case, delivered in the order they take are placed. We saw other table around us get their food before us although we placed our order first. Staff was friendly. I'll give them that! Once again, I've learned the difference between Mexican and Tex-Mex food and this falls more toward the Tex-Mex end. It's a matter of what satisfies your taste buds. read more

Visiting my home town and I wanted a good Mexican breakfast, so my sister brought me here. I had the Chuleta plate & she had the Carne Guisada plate. Both were very delicious! Best Mexican food in town! The salsa is always fresh and has the perfect balance of flavor and heat. The red sauce is home made, fresh and I have been known to order a small bowl of it as a dip for everything! The food is ok but nothing special. Really its just standard cheap tex-mex. The breakfast is pretty solid though. Overall, the location is a little shady and the service iffy but it is really cheap. Will not be coming back. Was recommended to eat the pozole. Tried some tacos and a torta instead. Meat on both tacos and the torta was gristly, greasy, and tasted old. Torta was packed with the mayo ( I don't mind mayo, but God damn. ) We ordered chicken flautas for the kids, we got 2 thinly rolled taqitos with a pinch of chicken instead that were fried beyond taste. This place has been a neighborhood family favorite for about 10 years now. Just great food at affordable prices. The service is consistently not so great, to the point where it is an inside joke for family and friends. But they are always extremely friendly. And the food is always outstanding. We are new in town and this is our favorite place to eat. Very casual, seat yourself, affordable. Unique menu, not your typical Tex-Mex, probably more authentic Mexican like. Delicious breakfast and yummy home-made flour tortillas. The free sopapillas in the evenings are a nice treat. Not sure if this is normal and forever...... I LOOOOOVE this place! I have been going there since it was called "El Gordo Burrito". I agree that the service can be a bit slack, but they don't have a problem with you refilling your own drink, chips, salsa, etc. It's kind of funny (don't forget to seat yourself either). As far as the food goes, the salsa is REALLY great (more green than red), and tastes slightly different every time I eat there....an excellent sign that it's made from scratch. I can't recommend any of the standard tex-mex fare, but they have FABULOUS breakfasts (served everyday, late) and some great, dirt cheap burritos. The Machaca and Huevos Rancheros (served with a beef sauces) are fabulous....also don't forget to order the papas and frijoles with cheese on top. The Pork burrito with green sauce is my fave lunch. I would never bother ordering something like fajitas, but I've heard they're mundane....aka not their specialty. read more

I called repeatedly yesterday morning between 7:15 to 7:30 no answer, called this morning again with no answer. They were open so i stopped and asked the waitress if i was calling the right number and she said yes but they do not answer until around 7:30 because the food is not ready. REALLY? The best Mexican food I've found in Amarillo!. You know its going to be good when you walk in and nearly everyone is speaking Spanish. I haven't found another Mexican restaurant that is better or more authentic. Warm crispy chips are served with super spicy green salsa, beware if you don't have a drink ready! I highly recommend the Burrito Supreme and Carne Asado. They have a lunch buffet on Fridays that is amazing, good variety. Friendly service, good portions and very reasonable prices, cash only and closed on Mondays. La Campana is my #1 pick! read more
