"Walk in as strangers, leave as friends." If that's not a saying that makes you want to head there now, then I don't know what is LOL! Obviously, there is more to the new renovated location of La Cantina than this saying but I will say I was pretty impressed when I saw it and knew I had to add it to my review. Let's just say it is pretty accurate. We did leave as friends since we made a few at the bar and then some. Just saying! La Cantina winery in Franklin, MA used to be a small wine bar that offered wine tasting flights and minimal food. BUT, now it is in a stunning new location (not far from their old stomping grounds). Fun Fact: It used to be a Mechanic garage. Well, wait until you see how it has turned from fixing cars to wine making and tasting. YOU HAVE GOT TO COME HERE! Parking is easy with plenty of spots. They have a lot of room at their gorgeous bar, but they also have high tops and tables for families or a large group. And, they host events here too; birthday parties, bridal showers, and anything in between, this place is it. I actually want to hold one of my milestone birthday parties here but well keep the number a secret for now. Service: Alana was our bartender and she was wonderful. Always asking us what we needed and how were doing. You don't get this upscale service any where else. And, when I wanted another sample of something she gave it to me without a fuss. Always with a smile on her face, she was the best. Wine: They have an excellent wine menu to choose from and they offer flights for about $25 pp. Flights are the best way to try multiple wines. I personally loved most of the red wines with Petit Sirah being my favorite. My husband loved their Barbera! I did sample their Sauv Blanc too which was nice but it was too cold to have a full pour. Food: Their menu is great with a ton of options from charcuterie, to tapas and some entrees. I will say some of their items can get expensive but definitely worth it. We started with a few cheeses and prosciutto. Then we ordered one of their popular pizzas called La Cantina. Everything was fresh, made in house with their beautiful pizza oven right smack in the middle of the bar. You have got to see this thing, its huge! Overall: If I could give this place 10 stars I would. We had the best time and we can't wait to go back. Franklin is not far from where we live but still a good 30 minute drive and also not far from the Wrentham outlets. We didn't have to make a reservation for a Sunday afternoon but I bet Saturdays can get pretty busy. I just loved everything about this wine bar and I know you will too! Cheers~ read more

I go here mostly to buy wine but the pizza and apps are really excellent. Ambiance generally good. They do need to amp up the kid friendliness by having high chairs or some such. The red wines are especially god such as the Pinot noir and the barbera. A bit expensive and know in advance that they are California grapes. Service was always good. read more

The only reason this place gets a 4 instead of a 5 is the initial service. We were seated at a table along the side of the room, which was otherwise void customers. No one came to address is for severance minutes and then choose to move to the bar. Here, Alna, the main bartender, greeted us immediately and made us feel welcome. She explained the wine flights and offered a sample of Reisling to my girlfriend, who preferred Moscato, which La Cantina doesn't offer (though no one trait does in New England). Thankfully Alna had a similar palate to that of my girlfriend, and they quickly made a connection. Love that! I chose a flight of reds and ultimately preferred the Clone 8 above those that I tried, thigh the Cab Sav Reserve was a close second. The Drunken Goat cheese sample was delicious too! The menu definitely has us eager to come back for food. And for those who aren't wine drinkers they have a small selection of beer and a cider. Food was very good and presented well. Service was awful. It took the server quite awhile to take our order, never checked on us after food was served. Waited forever for him to finally come over long after we needed refills on drinks. By the way, stop charging for a soda refill. With the small glass, filled all the way with ice, you maybe get 2 ounces of soda for $3.50, stop this, you are above this. The restaurant is completely open so being able to watch your server just standing in a corner instead of your checking in your table was very frustrating. read more

We recently visited La Cantina and had a great experience. We were seated at a cozy table and ordered a flight of five wines, which I shared with my wife. Here are my tasting impressions: * Barbera - Oak and leather on the nose, but overwhelmingly high acidity. Not my personal style. * Montepulciano - Notes of plum, black currant, and a touch of sweet apple. Medium acidity, pleasant overall. * Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 8 - Green apple, oak, leather, and tobacco. Acidity on the stronger side of medium, tannins moderate to light. * Clone 169 - Strawberry and mixed berries. Low-to-medium acidity with very soft tannins. * Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve - Oak, leather, firm mid-to-high tannins, and medium+ acidity. Well-structured. We enjoyed the wines, and ended up ordering a bottle of the Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve to pair with our meal. The food was excellent -- especially by local standards. We tried the salmon tartare, roasted pork belly, and the fig & pancetta pizza. The pizza, in particular, was a bold and creative choice that worked beautifully. Minor drawbacks: while the service was attentive and friendly, I would have expected the staff at a winery to provide more guidance on the wines themselves -- tasting notes, pairing suggestions, or background on the vintages. Also, it was quite loud during our visit -- not because of the winery itself, but simply because people here tend to talk very loudly in such places. Overall: La Cantina is a wonderful place, with a relaxed atmosphere, delicious food, and wines that show real character. La Cantina Winery is a surprise find in an average Franklin neighborhood. A fairly small store front but a large backyard used to host concerts, wine tasting and other events. On a pleasant Saturday afternoon, county singer AK Cody entertained about 100+ patrons. The winery offers a nice sampling of white and red wines as well as sangria and beer. I had a flight of five reds including a Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve which were my favorites. A block of cheese and crackers are available for snacks. I've been to a few of their "lawn parties" and a full restaurant is a logical progression. Anyway, I usually don't review food on places that just open because it doesn't seem fair. I have a friend who lives north of Boston so I drove up from CT for us to meet in the middle here at La Cantina! THE WINE -we both did flights and enjoyed our selections! -they give you a cute dry erase menu to circle your choices. I recommend looking at the menu online so you can see a detailed description of each wine before selecting what you want. -the tasting comes with the winery glass. I am happy to add this one to my collection. Really sturdy and nice hand feel. THE SERVICE -there was one person working when we arrived about 20 min after opening. I think at one point someone else came in. -she clearly had a lot to do as the place got busier but she still made sure to check in on us and other tables + apologized to folks when they experienced any sort of wait THE LOCATION -we were here in the winter so we sat indoors. I'm honestly not sure if there is outside seating but I want to assume yes -the inside was VERY small. About 6 high top tables (most 2 seaters) plus a bar. We were lucky we got there early because it really filled up quick and we would have had no where to sit. -I will say I noticed a pretty decent turnover of tables so even though it was consistently busy (as a Saturday should be) I didn't see any patron have to be turned away or wait long for seating. -the tables were pretty small but enough room for our flights. It got pretty loud once the place filled up so my friend and had really had to lean in / talk louder in order to hear each other at times -being high top tables the chairs were also high and had very low backs. I can see them possibly being difficult for folks with certain disabilities or some people who are older. -Parking! I did not look at the website ahead of time to check for parking and was very confused upon arrival. I called and they were able to give me good directions. There isn't a parking lot and not much street parking. But there is a large beige building (gymnasium) nearby where you can park ALONG the white fence and walk through this back way to the winery. My understanding was the other spots in the parking lot were strictly off limits! THE FOOD -there was a food truck when we were there and lots of folks purchased from it. Seems like they have rotating vendors. -I think you could purchase a charcuterie on site as well. -you are allowed to bring your own food in so I brought cheese and crackers + some other little snacks! It is always very nice to have that option. Though we had to be really careful maneuvering our food to make sure we didn't knock anything over because the tables are so small. Overall I had a really nice experience and recommend this winery. Would love to go in the warmer months to experience outdoor seating options. While I won't drive here of my own accord (1hr+ away) I would definitely meet my friend here again as a lovely central meeting point! read more

La Cantina is an amazing local find, especially if you're looking to stay away from the hustle and bustle of Boston without any sacrifice in flavor or ambiance. The restaurant is beautiful and open with a large bar. The bathrooms are also very clean and modern. The day my friends and I went it was unseasonably warm; I was hoping for some outdoor seating but there is none. There isn't much of a view in the area so that is fine. Parking was very easy however when we left, the parking lot was getting pretty crowded. Our server was so friendly and helpful. We stayed so long her shift ended/she went to work the bar but she made sure we were taken care of. She answered all of our questions and was so accommodating. Now, for the star of the show: the food. It was all amazing. Honestly. Everything was seasoned to perfection and as previous reviews stated, you can absolutely tell that the chef is crafting the menu /dishes with intention. We did the tapas and pretty much ordered most of the menu. And we loved the tuna tartare, lamb, and a few other dishes so much that we ordered them again . The pizza menu looks delicious too but we didn't get to it. The wine flight was delicious. I gravitate towards reds and they have a great selection. The one critique I have is the dessert menu. We ordered 2 tiramisus and it is not a traditional tiramisu (airy, no lady fingers, and not soaked in espresso). Our bill was very reasonable, given we ordered pretty much everything. ok it use to be a cute little winery featuring home made wines and a nice outdoor setting great when the weather co-operated but now it has a beautiful indoor facility, the owner Bob and his wife moved the business into. This is the 2nd time I've been in since the opening in April and it does not disappoint. They still offer a variety of delicious wines (reds and whites) but now they've added a menu of homemade pizzas and small plates and salads. So far I've tried a few of their pizzas, outstanding delicious crust, wonderful sauce and fresh toppings made in a hearth oven, any pizza pairs great with the wines. I also tried the Wagu Beef sliders, lean beef with carmelized onions topped off with a suble blue cheese and served on a potato roll in a word TERRIFIC. I also tried the special of the day seared sea scallops and let me tell you as a born and raised New Englander whose dad earned a living fishing commercially these scallops are the big sea scallops cooked perfectly served with a puree (secret sauce) that enhanced the flavor just right I couldn't have been more impressed. I'm looking forward to sampling the lolipop lamb chops on the next visit. Really nice place to go for great wine and atmosphere, I came here for an alumni event over the weekend. It's a family-owned business with an excellent variety of wines, I was impressed that every one I tasted was so good! The highlights for me were the Cab, the Rose, and the Cranberry Honey (probably one of the most unique and delish wines I've had in a long time). It was hard to decide which ones to pick when buying bottles because they were all so tasty, but I finally settled on the Cranberry Honey and Rose. The setup is perfect, they've got a spacious backyard so there's plenty of room to grab a table, sit and relax. All the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. A fun family owned business that imports the grapes from Napa and produces approx 8 or 9 different wines and sells for affordable prices. This business is about 15 years old and made it through the pandemic by turning the property into an outside venue with umbrellas and heaters. Their hard work is about to payoff with a new space that will serve wine and beer along with Pizza and tap-is. My favorite local spot. See you there ! read more
