Reaching La Cappella at night can itself feel like a bit of an adventure as you make the bumpy drive up the steep streets overlooking the coastline to reach Hotel Bellview - nestled at one of the highest points of the city. Once you reach your destination though and take your first step into La Cappella you're instantly transported to a little taste of Italy nestled in the heart of Puerto Vallarta. The main dining room felt like an actual restaurant you would dine at in an old castle in Italy and the view from the restaurant is worth the drive alone even if the food wasn't good (which it was delicious). Service was impeccable and the food was delicious. Our table started with the artisenal meat and cheese board which WE DEVOURED. It was one of the better charcuterie boards I'd had in a while. We also shared the caprese salad which was fresh and delicious. For my entree I went with the Filet Mignon which was accompanied by a goat cheese-stuffed chili pepper on a bed of mashed potatoes, all enhanced by a creamy sauce with three varieties of chili peppers. There was hardly a bite left when I was done with it. While we enjoyed our dinner violinists were walking around serenading guests and at one point fireworks even went off over the city by the cathedral the restaurant overlooks making for an even more spectacular dining experience. Make the adventure up the hill to enjoy the views, vibes, and tastes coming out of La Cappella.
I was crossing my fingers this wouldn't be a tourist trap -- and it turned out to be the BEST choice for our wedding anniversary! Easily one of the top 3 most romantic places we've ever been. The food was incredible: the grilled octopus, tomato bisque, and tuna tartare were all perfection. Service was excellent from start to finish, and the ambiance? Magical. I was smiling the entire night. Since it was our anniversary, we even renewed our vows here (in private) -- with the gorgeous view of Puerto Vallarta's iconic church as the backdrop. Truly unforgettable. If you're in Puerto Vallarta, this is the place to celebrate. Highly recommend!

Wonderful Italian restaurant in Puerto Vallarta. Old school Italian vibe here with white table cloths and panoramic views. We had beef carpaccio, a Caesar salad, and the colossal shrimp linguine, all were excellent. A bottle of red wine (from Mexico) finished the meal nicely. Service was excellent and attentive. Recommend for a high end meal amidst the less expensive options in the area.
This place was amazing. I took my reluctant teenager who said nothing looked good on the menu when we got there. Mind you, there was a very strep hill to climb to get there, probably 4-5 flights (stories). The view was spectacular, the restaurant immaculate, and the service top notch. I had the Caprese and I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo for my son. The Alfredo sauce was orgasmic, the best I have ever eaten. My son even liked it a lot! I'm definitely going back there. With those two dishes and a soft drink (bread was complimentary), our bill came to just under 800 pesos. The view alone was worth it.
Our hotel concierge said this was a great place for dinner and that was an understatement! When you walk into this masterful place it is essentially a historic monument and is full of beautiful architecture, paintings, chandeliers and more. The view out to the church and ocean is breathtaking and watching the sunset just melts anyone. If the views were not enough, the menu was fabulous and the chef's delivery was exquisite. I had chicken piccata with veggies as I had to be gluten free (normally it comes with fettuccine). My wife had the Fruitti de Mare which was chock full of amazing seafood with mussels, scallops, lobster tail and shrimp and fabulous fettuccini alfredo. I could only have a bite of the lobster tail but my wife looked like she was in food heaven. We had lime sorbet for desert as well Tiramisu. We also had a bottle of Chianti and a few drinks and there was absolutely nothing that could have gone better. Food, service, ambiance and view! To add icing on the cake, there were two violinists playing electric violins creating a mood beyond compare. This has to be one of the most outstanding restauran experiences of my life and I will be sure to go back every time I am in PV! This is a must go to place! And, the value for all of this was truly exceptional. This was all for about $225 USD and this should be a total five star restaurant in any city around the world!
Enjoyed a wonderful dinner at La Cappella for my 50th birthday. Due to the size of my party, I had to email the restaurant and promptly received a response to confirm. (Please note that for parties of 6 or more, you will be required to leave a credit card on file. In case of a no-show, you will be charged $20 per person). The restaurant itself is absolutely breathtaking! It's beautifully decorated and has the most amazing view. The ambiance is unmatched. In addition to the beautiful decor, they have live violinists that serenade each table. Despite the large size of the restaurant, it feels extremely intimate. The service was amazing and our waiter was wonderful at responding to our questions and offering suggestions. (Worth noting that if you need separate checks, please make this known upfront. We were a party of seven and when they brought out check out, they were unwilling to split it. One person had to pay and be reimbursed which was a bit inconvenient for everyone). We had a wonderful experience here. I was perfect for a birthday celebration. The food portions were large and everything was delicious.
A wonderful combination of view , food and service! Worth the effort you won't be disappointed! Make certain you are at your table for sunset . Take your time the table is yours for 2.5 hours. The craft cocktails are a great way to start . Wine list offers choices however a bit pricey . The Lasagna is authentic , the pasta with giant shrimp in a light butter wine sauce won't disappoint ... Huge Shrimp yet tender ! Service was attentive and balanced not overbearing . Take a taxi this place is really not walkable and for those with mobility issues , be aware there are a few steps within the resturant . Parties of two will find the best tables at the railings other still have a great view. Can't be a bit breezy as the sun sets , but that is part of the ambiance . Worth the special effort to make a special memory !
Came to Caffè Cappella for my birthday dinner, and it was such a beautiful experience. The restaurant has immaculate views of the city and a really elegant atmosphere. The food was superb -- my sisters and I ordered steak, shrimp plates, and pasta, and everything was delicious. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The service was 10/10. Definitely a perfect spot for a memorable dinner. I can't wait to go back!"

What a wonderful gem of a restaurant in downtown Puerto Vallarta! This is not a place that you would find on the beaten path. Our host, Juan was excellent. We visited to celebrate our 14th wedding anniversary, and were not left disappointed! The food was exceptional, and the views of the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe and sunset were stunning. This is our second trip to La Cappella, and it won't be our last to this stunning, extraordinarily beautiful restaurant. Each of the times we've gone to La Cappella we were looking for a top restaurant as we were celebrating very special occasions... It may be our favorite restaurant in Puerto Vallarta. The ambiance is perfect. It's hard to get a reservation, so you need to be sure to do it well in advance. The restaurant is a bit farther than where most of the restaurants were... and perhaps more expensive.... but oh, so worth it, going to this magical, romantic place. The restaurant is high on a hill overlooking the city, the Guadalupe Church (which is lit beautifully at night), with a panoramic view of the coastline.... the view is just WOW - so spectacular. Be sure to be there at sunset. . . and be on the look out for fireworks later.... There was a live violinist that played beautifully. Each of the dishes we've ordered each time we've gone has been delicious. My friend loved his rib eye .... my other the lasagna. This trip I ordered TWO entrees and loved both - the chicken piccata as well as a tube pasta dish with mushrooms, artichokes, garlic, sun dried tomatoes .... That may have been the most simple of the dishes we ordered but it was so amazing. For sure we will dine at this magnificent restaurant each time we are in Vallarta. read more

Super romantic spot with great views of the church and water! The restaurant is rather small so every table has a good view but if you want the "best" tables, those are only for parties of 2 or less. There's only 5 of those kinds of tables too so the earlier you come, the better chance. We reserved for 6:30pm and stayed til after sunset but got front row seats! Everything was really delicious. Highly recommend: Caesar salad Charcuterie board Grilled pulpo (octopus) Fettucine alfredo Chocolate lava cake The only thing I didn't really care for was the Blue Sangria. It was really tart so I couldn't finish it all and it didn't pair well with anything. Our server Gerry was super attentive and kind enough to answer our questions about the history of the restaurant and building. Turns out that it has ties to Casa Kimberly. And they play live violin music here every night. Highly recommend eating here at least once during your stay in PV; it was one of our favorite restaurants. read more

Absolutely stunning experience. The view is fantastic but the special highlight here in the level of service. The attention to being taken care was on a whole different level here. I was going to pour myself more water from the bottle on the table and the server seemingly appeared beside me asking to pour it for me. Come on that's fantastic. Besides that they were just on top of it the whole night and kept coming to check in on us. Food was great but if you order the rack of lamb ask for it medium instead of medium rare because you run the chance of the sides being a little bit more rare but that's fine we didn't mind just a note for other guests. For Italian food in Mexico it was well executed. The appetizers such as the tomato soup with shrimp was great. The tuna tartare was very flavorful and fresh. Mains were fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp (which are definitely prawns) was great for the price definitely delicious. Rack of lamb seasoned good and bed of mashed potatoes good also. No room for dessert but man I wish we did. Two appetizers, two mains, a cocktail, glass of wine, and bottle of water for JUST 200 USD. I've been to plenty of fine dining restaurants where what we got here would be north of $400+ easy and the service wouldn't be matched. Tip them well. They earned it. If you enjoy Italian food this a MUST in PVR. 100% will be back on a future trip here. read more

In all of the reviews and first hand recommendations I have heard, it was important that I take in this restaurant to temper the hype with the reality. After taking the winding streets up to the restaurant, we arrived at the unassuming entrance and as we walked through the vestibule to get to the restaurant, we were immediately greeted with the money shot. We took a few pictures and the the crowned steeple of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church is so close you can "touch" it. The chapel style and fresco on the ceiling is a wonderful image to take back home with you. Once we settled in, I believe that this restaurant is a victim of his awe-inspiring view and breathtaking vista up and down the coast of the Banderas Bay. The truth is that I believe this restaurant relies heavily on the interiors and view and suffers a bit from this visual superiority. My friends and I ordered our beverages and that started our continued "search" for our server to 1) take our orders and then 2) to get him to refill said drinks and to check in with us thereafter. I ended up ordering a soup and salad: CREMA DI POMODORO E GAMBERETTI and INSALATA CAPPELLA with shrimp. For the price, the salad could have actually been a dinner-sized salad and more than three shrimp. The Pomodoro soup was very tasty, especially due to the Grappa liqueur. Although I am a carb-conscious consumer and I did not taste the pasta myself, my friend noted that the sauce was super rich and he wishes that it had been a been a bit thinner (liquidy) and less heavy on the cheese additive. Once done with dinner, the staff served my friend a birthday surprise and gave him a slice of cake with candle, as I noted this on the reservation. Summation: Great for the view, OK for the food and value but for a 1st timer to PV, it would be an excellent stop on your culinary voyage. - 3.5 out of 5, based on the view read more

Hands down the most romantic restaurant I have ever been to! There was something magical about this place! So much so that I cried! The sunset was breathtaking! The view was as if I was sitting somewhere on the Amalfi coast. Just when I thought nothing could beat the live violinist and sunset, at nite the fireworks came on and I wanted to cry again as I couldn't believe how lucky I was to have been there to witness the most perfect sunset and nite! I have travelled a lot and I have been to some of the finest restaurants but this one hits different! It's beyond beautiful! The food was incredible! It went perfect with the ambiance and mood! Came here while my fam and I were on vacation. The view is out of this world! The service is a close second. Started with the caprese salad and it was the best I've ever tried! But other than that the food rating for me would be a 3.5 the 4 is for overall experience. Service and view. I ordered the ribeye medium rare and it was spot on but the small baked potato that came with was way over cooked and chewy and the vegetables were too salty. My Kiddo got the shrimp scampi, the shrimp were large but the all around flavor was really tangy? Almost like they unloaded two lemons in there. A bit much. Hubs got the octopus which he's basically has gotten at every restaurant in town during our 10 days here. It wasn't up to parr with some of the other establishments but this is why the 4 stars specifically, my hubs bit down on something hard and it's bc they didn't remove the beak of the octopus!?! For such an upscale place I was shocked... all our experience with octopus here we never encountered that until we ate here. And they put the octopus upside down so he couldn't even see it. Definitely a let down considering where we were dining. The tiramisu was pretty good but the pecan pie was also over cooked. The coffee was excellent! read more

his restaurant is a must see if visiting puerto Vallarta. It's downtown, but up in the mountain. I'd highly recommend taking a taxi as it is very steep and would be difficult to find. The ambience and view is unreal. It's in an old chapel, and the wood touches and paintings are beautiful. It overlooks the church downtown and all of the coast. The staff was so friendly and attentive. The meal started with complimentary bread and you could order salad/soup to start. The entrees were good as well. My fish was a tad dry and my husband said his bolognese lacked a little flavor, but overall we were very pleased. The two violinists were an amazing touch. It was such a romantic and relaxing evening. I will mention that it's is a bit hot with the sun setting, however they have fans and awnings. Overall an amazing experience and we would go back and recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat. read more

We went for our anniversary dinner and loved every minute of it. Luis was our server. The views are spectacular. They gave us the best table in the house on the balcony. Gary had Chicken Alfredo and I had Fruite del Mar which was absolutely amazing. They treated us to a special dessert. Pictures tell it all. We booked this restaurant to have dinner to celebrate our daughter's 15th birthday and it did not disappoint. I wish I had taken more pictures, but I was definitely too busy enjoying the experience. Our reservation time allowed us to catch the breathtaking sunset, with live violin music playing in the background. The food was delicious! I devoured the cesar salad and the sauce for the mussels was just on another level. My husband used the bread to soak up every last drop. I didn't even get pictures of the pasta dishes because I was so excited to eat. Everything was executed well. The service was outstanding. We felt well taken care of, with so many subtle and thoughtful details. I enjoyed the pace that the dishes arrived. It allowed us to enjoy our bottle of wine and take everything in without feeling rushed, or getting too full too quickly. Amazing, amazing evening. d reservations here for my friends birthday and we were so surprised at how amazing the food was. We ordered the shrimp with jam and peanut butter dipping sauce and it was amazing. We were pretty hungry and they kept the bread coming which was awesome. All of us for fettuccini Alfredo with chicken and one with shrimp, the sauce was so flavorful. It definitely hit the spot. Service was great and they had live violin players that would come to your table. We would definitely come back on our next trip to puerto vallarta read more

Hands down one of the best dinners / restaurant experiences I've ever had. Made a reservation for 8 of us a week and a half in advance and there was already limited time slots. So I highly suggest reserving at least 2 weeks. Once we entered the restaurant we were guided by our host and everyone in our party was in shock by the beauty of this restaurant. The view can't really be matched by any other restaurant. I started off with one of their signature cocktail the guavatini which is a a tequila based martini with fresh guava juice. It was extreme refreshing and not too sweet. We started off with some salads and the burrata was perfect. As for my main dish I ordered a Ribeye (medium rare). My ribeye came out perfectly cooked and the flavor was definitely on point. Once we finished our entrees their violists came out for some entertainment and were so good I saw people crying. This was truly a dinner to remember and it completely lived up to the hype. Our server was extremely attentive, and full of good menu suggestions. If I ever visit puerto Vallarta again, I will most certainly be visiting La Capella! read more

if I could give this restaurant more stars than I would. This was the absolute best restaurant I have ever eaten in and I have lived in Italy and Japan as well as the US. The service was impeccable and the food out of this world! Attention to detail went off the charts. Strolling violin music throughout the place made it so romantic along with the breathtaking sunsets from the huge open area setting. Bravo! If you want the best meal and experience of your life make reservations and dine here... it's the closest thing to heaven in my book! read more

5 Stairs is not enough for this place. This is place deserves 5 Diamonds/Michelin Stars! I truly Loved this place when we were visiting in Puerto Vallarta. To start out, they had parking which is difficult with how tight the streets are. Security greeted us and showed us where to park and watches over the vehicles. This is so nice because safety in another country is always a weight off the shoulders. The place is beautiful. It must be historic but I cant remember exactly if someone had told us that it is. When you walk in, it really feels like youre in Europe/Italy. The statues, the art and the décor. The best part though was taking that left turn and seeing the incredible view of the ocean. We got very lucky and had came at the perfect time. We got the witness probably the most beautiful sunset and at night, a firework show! The best part is still yet to come: the food. This is where I am so amazed at the quality and that I cant believe that I would have better Italian food deep all the way in Mexico! It seems like the chef has spent a great amount of time working on this craft or lived in Italy because it was truly the best Italian food. I have ever had. I saved this place and will absolutely be back. read more

Perched in the streets above the Malecon behind the church with a beautiful view of the church and ocean. Perfect spot for a sunset dinner. Bar drinks were handcrafted and unique. ambiance was top notch. The dining room is open air on one side facing out over the bay of Banderas. A trio of musicians playing electric violin covering classic to more modern tunes. Waitstaff very attentive. Nice Italian menu selection. We had carpaccio, chicken picatta, lasagne, and a penne pasta dish. All were very good, food could have been a little bit better. Chicken entrée was a bit tough and stringy. Penne was a little heavy on the limon. The lasagne was the top out of the three entrees. Carpaccio appetizer was excellent. Dessert menu this evening favored chocolate items. I had been hoping for a panna cotta, but no luck. If you are looking for a very special dinner location while in Puerto Valarta with ambiance, live music, first-rate service and fine dining, this is a must visit. read more

As much as I want to keep giving this place 5 stars, I can't. It's in dire need of a new chef, and every visitor is just avoiding saying it because the rest of the experience is so great. Amazing service, amazing views, amazing ambiance, amazing music and violin players, amazing wine, amazing menu. Mediocre food. I guarantee if you take out all the other amazing factors, more people would comment on how "just ok" the food is. I had a $60 lobster that was nowhere as food as the $40 one I had back in the USA. It was huge, but it was overcooked and not juicy and not very flavorful. The pasta and chicken was some of the blandest we've ever had, too. Great ideas behind the menu, just not great execution. I would for sure still come back for the views and atmosphere, but just prepare to be disappointed by the food. read more

The most romantic and enchanting restaurant in Puerto Vallarta! Reservations are highly recommended - I dined here in July '22. We requested a table that overlooks the city and ocean. It is a first-come, first-served situation and we luckily secured one of their best tables. Perched on a hilltop, the journey to La Cappella is a windy and steep drive. The elevated position provides a straight-on view of Puerto Vallarta's famous church, Our Lady of Guadalupe. During our dinner, it was cloudy with intermittent light rain. While some might be bothered by this, I enjoyed it because I felt that it added to the ambiance. Once we took our seats, we were kindly greeted by Sergio. He promptly gave us our menus. We started off with a complimentary bread basket served with butter, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. Soon after, I ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Next, we shared a cheese board. It had a nice variety of cheeses, walnuts, pesto, jam, garlic bread, and pickled vegetables. I also ordered the Burrata salad. It's a large ball of fresh mozzarella with a creamy, ricotta-like interior that oozes when you slice through it. It includes lettuce, arugula, and 2 sauces: tomato and pesto. I chose the octopus for my entrée. It was good, but I was already full, so I only had a few bites. To end our meal, we shared the chocolate lava cake. It was divine! During our dinner, the three violinists emerged through the entrance doors and began their performance. They were outstanding! All things considered; this was a 5-star experience. We overheard some guests complaining about the prices, but I think that their pricing is fair - it is comparable to what you'd spend at a fine-dining Italian restaurant in the United States.
