Reaching La Cappella at night can itself feel like a bit of an adventure as you make the bumpy drive up the steep streets overlooking the coastline to reach Hotel Bellview - nestled at one of the highest points of the city. Once you reach your destination though and take your first step into La Cappella you're instantly transported to a little taste of Italy nestled in the heart of Puerto Vallarta. The main dining room felt like an actual restaurant you would dine at in an old castle in Italy and the view from the restaurant is worth the drive alone even if the food wasn't good (which it was delicious). Service was impeccable and the food was delicious. Our table started with the artisenal meat and cheese board which WE DEVOURED. It was one of the better charcuterie boards I'd had in a while. We also shared the caprese salad which was fresh and delicious. For my entree I went with the Filet Mignon which was accompanied by a goat cheese-stuffed chili pepper on a bed of mashed potatoes, all enhanced by a creamy sauce with three varieties of chili peppers. There was hardly a bite left when I was done with it. While we enjoyed our dinner violinists were walking around serenading guests and at one point fireworks even went off over the city by the cathedral the restaurant overlooks making for an even more spectacular dining experience. Make the adventure up the hill to enjoy the views, vibes, and tastes coming out of La Cappella.
I was crossing my fingers this wouldn't be a tourist trap -- and it turned out to be the BEST choice for our wedding anniversary! Easily one of the top 3 most romantic places we've ever been. The food was incredible: the grilled octopus, tomato bisque, and tuna tartare were all perfection. Service was excellent from start to finish, and the ambiance? Magical. I was smiling the entire night. Since it was our anniversary, we even renewed our vows here (in private) -- with the gorgeous view of Puerto Vallarta's iconic church as the backdrop. Truly unforgettable. If you're in Puerto Vallarta, this is the place to celebrate. Highly recommend!
Wonderful Italian restaurant in Puerto Vallarta. Old school Italian vibe here with white table cloths and panoramic views. We had beef carpaccio, a Caesar salad, and the colossal shrimp linguine, all were excellent. A bottle of red wine (from Mexico) finished the meal nicely. Service was excellent and attentive. Recommend for a high end meal amidst the less expensive options in the area.
Food, ambiance, service, the VIEW, everything was AMAZING! I ordered the pasta primavera and my fiancé ordered the fettuccine alfredo. Soooooo good. My guava martini was also so yummy! Our waiter, Rafael, was so kind and attentive and took great care of us. 10/10 would come again. Thank you!!
This place was amazing. I took my reluctant teenager who said nothing looked good on the menu when we got there. Mind you, there was a very strep hill to climb to get there, probably 4-5 flights (stories). The view was spectacular, the restaurant immaculate, and the service top notch. I had the Caprese and I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo for my son. The Alfredo sauce was orgasmic, the best I have ever eaten. My son even liked it a lot! I'm definitely going back there. With those two dishes and a soft drink (bread was complimentary), our bill came to just under 800 pesos. The view alone was worth it.
Our hotel concierge said this was a great place for dinner and that was an understatement! When you walk into this masterful place it is essentially a historic monument and is full of beautiful architecture, paintings, chandeliers and more. The view out to the church and ocean is breathtaking and watching the sunset just melts anyone. If the views were not enough, the menu was fabulous and the chef's delivery was exquisite. I had chicken piccata with veggies as I had to be gluten free (normally it comes with fettuccine). My wife had the Fruitti de Mare which was chock full of amazing seafood with mussels, scallops, lobster tail and shrimp and fabulous fettuccini alfredo. I could only have a bite of the lobster tail but my wife looked like she was in food heaven. We had lime sorbet for desert as well Tiramisu. We also had a bottle of Chianti and a few drinks and there was absolutely nothing that could have gone better. Food, service, ambiance and view! To add icing on the cake, there were two violinists playing electric violins creating a mood beyond compare. This has to be one of the most outstanding restauran experiences of my life and I will be sure to go back every time I am in PV! This is a must go to place! And, the value for all of this was truly exceptional. This was all for about $225 USD and this should be a total five star restaurant in any city around the world!
Enjoyed a wonderful dinner at La Cappella for my 50th birthday. Due to the size of my party, I had to email the restaurant and promptly received a response to confirm. (Please note that for parties of 6 or more, you will be required to leave a credit card on file. In case of a no-show, you will be charged $20 per person). The restaurant itself is absolutely breathtaking! It's beautifully decorated and has the most amazing view. The ambiance is unmatched. In addition to the beautiful decor, they have live violinists that serenade each table. Despite the large size of the restaurant, it feels extremely intimate. The service was amazing and our waiter was wonderful at responding to our questions and offering suggestions. (Worth noting that if you need separate checks, please make this known upfront. We were a party of seven and when they brought out check out, they were unwilling to split it. One person had to pay and be reimbursed which was a bit inconvenient for everyone). We had a wonderful experience here. I was perfect for a birthday celebration. The food portions were large and everything was delicious.
A wonderful combination of view , food and service! Worth the effort you won't be disappointed! Make certain you are at your table for sunset . Take your time the table is yours for 2.5 hours. The craft cocktails are a great way to start . Wine list offers choices however a bit pricey . The Lasagna is authentic , the pasta with giant shrimp in a light butter wine sauce won't disappoint ... Huge Shrimp yet tender ! Service was attentive and balanced not overbearing . Take a taxi this place is really not walkable and for those with mobility issues , be aware there are a few steps within the resturant . Parties of two will find the best tables at the railings other still have a great view. Can't be a bit breezy as the sun sets , but that is part of the ambiance . Worth the special effort to make a special memory !

The food was superb -- my sisters and I ordered steak, shrimp plates, and pasta, and everything was delicious. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The service was 10/10. Definitely a perfect spot for a memorable dinner. I can't wait to go back!"

Just located about 800 yards from where we were staying we were able to book dinner reservations here. It was incredibly nice plus unique. The ambiance, the sound, the smells and the view were astounding. Highly recommend if you can make a reservation do a later reservation to hear the violinist and see the fireworks, hear the church bells. The food was ok, it was prepared with sophistication and class, the service was impeccable. The costs are those you will see in the states for a five star restaurant. If you order the lobster just splurge a little more and go for the steak and lobster. It's a better choice. Definitely worth checking out. read more

La Cappella is rated the top restaurant in Puerto Vallarta, so one's expectations should be high as well! First of all the ambiance and view is breathtaking and nightly fireworks are beautiful. I requested something that was not on the menu but I knew they had scallops and risotto which they prepared for me. Scallops were the perfect size, but I should have asked for them to be seared or grilled, though very tasty was not what I was looking for! Charcuterie board was phenomenal as well as the ceasar salad. Chicken piccata was also very good. Service was top notch, which should be expected for the top notch prices you pay. You should at least try La Cappella at least once when visiting Puerto Vallarta! read more

Wow, the view from La Cappella is breathtaking! I would highly recommend a reservation, especially if you plan on eating in the dining area. My friend and I got lucky and were able to sit in the bar section. The owner introduced himself to us and told us a bit about the history of the restaurant which is part of the hotel. The building has been in his family since the 50s. My friend said seafood pasta she ordered was some of the best she's ever had. I thoroughly enjoyed the tomato basil and my aperol spritz. Come here for the food, drinks, view, wonderful servers, and architecture! read more

Spec Tacular restaurant in the heart of Puerto Vallarta's romantic zone. We've had breakfast, lunch and dinner there and the food was wonderful every time. The violinist at dinner put on a great show that should not be missed. I would recommend breakfast as it is very reasonably priced and absolutely delicious plus, you cannot beat the view. My husband and I dined at La Cappella last night to celebrate his birthday, and we were blown away from the moment we entered. We arrived 15 minutes early, and the hostess said, "No problem, we have a table for you." We were immediately escorted to one of the best and most romantic tables in the restaurant, overlooking the bay with The Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the background, magical! It didn't end there though! Our server was extraordinarily friendly and helpful, and everything we ordered (mixed drinks, La Cappella salad, shrimp ravioli, lasagna, and cheesecake) was delicious. He also took great care to take the most beautiful pictures of us, which I will cherish forever. The absolute cherry on the cake though were hands down the violinists. They played a range of intricate songs from Phantom of the Opera to The Devil Went Down to Georgia, and they were phenomenal, they are truly gifted! The whole restaurant joined in clapping, singing, and overall having a blast. We left feeling like we'd just had one of the most memorable, fun, exquisite experiences in Puerto Vallarta. We will 100% be back, and tell all of our friends to go too! read more

Absolutely blown away. Must reserve a night here if you're looking for an amazing dinner experience with a world class view in PV old town. Wonderful view of lady Guadalupe church and tile rooftops. Food was very very well cooked, in terms of seafood, both the shrimp (entree) and scallops (appetizer) were super tender, the shrimp were super sized. And I'm glad I chose the beef fillet because it was actually really juicy and tasty with the berry sauce and gnocchi. Ambience: AMAZING. I was worried when we got there that we wouldn't get a table next to the railings because of the reviews I read here on Yelp but they said we got the last one!! (And I had booked about a month and a few days in advance). And what a view!!! 6:30 was perfect for you to view the full gamut of the sky turning colors in the background of the beautiful Guadalupe church. Highly, highly recommend this to anyone looking to surprise or treat someone special The trio of violinists were so awesome and talented, they actually ask you for requests! They made the ambience very relaxing, and with this view I definitely felt like I was transported back to another time. La Cappella was breathtakingly beautiful! The view of the church is obviously the star of the show, but then you also have the view of the surrounding city and the ocean. In addition, the restaurant itself is beautiful with the painted ceilings, wood trims and hanging chandeliers. What more could you ask for?! Our reservation was at 7:45pm, sunset was not until 8:40pm and all the front tables were already taken. We did get the last one; however, it was next to the rod iron fence, so we did not have a clear picturesque view, but it was still beautiful of what we were able to see. The point is, get there early if you want the best seat in the house. We ordered a bottle of wine, a charcuterie board (with cheese & meat) and a creamy pesto fettuccine (not on the menu). There was pesto on the charcuterie board that we loved so much, we asked for it to be in our pasta. Next time I would hold off on the cream; it diluted the pesto. A bread basket was also served on the table which was acommpanied with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. A nice romantic touch to La Cappella were the live violinists who would walk around the restaurant and play. It really set the mood and they also took requests. You will need to take a taxi to get to the restaurant unless you plan on walking all the way up (not recommended). I enjoyed our time at La Cappella and would recommend this place for any couples or family dinners or celebrations - not best suited for young children. read more

Soooo perfect. We made a reservation at 530, the sun was still beaming so I would recommend 6ish if you're trying to catch the sunset. The ambiance was honestly perfect. They had musicians come in around 630 and it really made the night even more special. I had the fish special of the day, my hubby had the seafood pasta. I would recommend the seafood pasta over the fish special. The service was accommodating, fast, and friendly. They have a bar/lounge next to the restaurant, in case you can't get reservations you could stop there for drinks. Same view. Recommending this place to anyone in PVR read more

This is an excellent Italian restaurant overlooking the Our Lady of Guadalupe church. The interior of the restaurant is just beautiful and the church bells add to the ambiance. The service here is nothing short of spectacular from start to finish, top notch. I enjoyed Tuscan soup as the appetizer, consisting of beans and vegetables in a light tomato broth. For the main I had the spaghetti bolognese, made with just the right amount of tomato sauce, spices and meat. The spaghetti were Al dente making this an amazing dish. A nice glass of Chianti paired well. A light chocolate cake with some vanilla gelato for dessert completed the wonderful meal. WOW! This place is five stars alone for the ambiance, service, and the sunset view right at dinner time. We came here as a large group of 6 after booking through OpenTable and after a hilly taxi ride, we made it to this beautiful hole in the wall entrance that was just filled with beautiful plants, decor, flowers inside as we walked to where the dining area was. We came right before sunset which was perfect - the view is INCREDIBLE and we all took a bunch of photos. Everyone dining right by the ledge was so friendly and understanding and even offered to take our photos. The food was Italian cuisine, and if I'm being honest was not that memorable but really no complaints. Dessert was pretty good, but the best part about the evening was the violin show that started right around dinner time - they were incredible! They took requests and walked around and it just made the evening so much better, it was so unexpected. We have been here a few times. Here are the good, the bad and the slightly ugly. The view is magical as soon as you step into the main lobby. Make your reservations for sunset, you will not regret it. The food and drinks are slightly above average. You visit here more for the experience than the meal. The bread is dry and not memorable. Salads were delicious. Filet was ordered medium rare and came back well done. Lasagne was average. The pasta dishes were nice but not anything special. The chocolate birthday cake was so dry that it had to have come from a betty crocker box mix. None of the 6 in our party could stomach it. Service was outstanding as was the music. We did not like that we were seated in the downstairs area. We were seated by a pole and an obstructed view. They tried to market it as "best seats in the house" but we beg to differ. Overall I think it's worth the trip there once time for the experience but there are plenty of other great places in PV that deserve a try. Atmosphere 10/10, food 6/10, service 10/10 read more

What a totally romantic night! Having dinner at sunset on our last night this time in Puerto Vallarta was perfect. What a gem! Our appetizer was scallops in a red pepper sauce and was so very good. The focaccia bread with a very light Spanish olive oil, balsamic and Reggiani Parmesano was light and lovely and we opened the bottle of wine we brought and savored the moment as the sun was setting. They played my favorite song as our scallops arrived. Next came the extraordinary hearts of palm salad with mind boggling blue cheese dressing. There was nothing left on my plate as the a pork Osso Bucco arrived. Melt in your mouth does not even describe it. Okay so we shared everything up till dessert. My coconut tiramisu was not my favorite, but Reed's chocolate lava cake won my heart and one bite was enough to make me happy. Not a surprise he finished mine too! Finish the night with warmed brandy and go home and sleep well! Please let me go there another time! read more

We booked a dinner reservation here mainly for the sunset view and it did not disappoint. Our reservation was an hour before sunset at 6 and we were seated at one of the few tables right by the balcony. We definitely over ordered for 2 people as we wanted to try a lot of items on the menu since they sounded good. We got 3 appetizers: marinated beef carpaccio, fried shrimp, and mussels. The beef carpaccio did not taste marinated, just raw but was still good with the toppings. Also ordered 3 entrees: shrimp linguine, octopus, and the slow cooked pork leg. The octopus was cooked perfectly, did not have octopus this tender and not chewy before. The pork was also very tender and slid off the bone. We had enough leftovers to take home for another meal. The service was great and overall dinner took about 2 hours which was a good pace to enjoy the sunset and live music. read more

Wife and I did a sunset dinner here and it did not disappoint. We both enjoyed our meals. The burrata was an absolute hit and I had the vegetarian pasta. It was incredible. It was one the best pasta dishes I have ever eaten. The penne was perfectly al dente and the dish is very savory and salty but in a good way. I am not sure what drew me to it, not a normal order for me, but man oh man, am I glad I did. its a penne dish of artichoke, sun dried tomatoes and mushrooms in a butter, white wine and lime sauce. Staying at the hotel upstairs, there is no way I was going to miss another helping of perfect carpaccio under the sun (we get this dish anywhere we can find it on a menu and La Cappellas has been the best we ever tried) - this time we also got fried shrimp which were very flavorful and came with great dipping sauces. The guava martini was ideal for a refreshing end to a warm day, so far all drinks we ordered were great. We got brunch here yesterday as well and ate it too quickly to snap pics but my favorite part of that meal was the lox with a wonderful, generous portion of salmon on a crispy cheese bagel read more
