8 years ago I did a review about the food being ok but the service being horrible. After a few years we decided to give another try. Bad decision. Service was still horrible. The wait staff was out in the parking lot. The clueless manager up front doing nothing. Took forever to get served. Then forever to take order, get food, etc. They delivered the fajitas but didn't deliver the plates with the sides etc. We ate with no drinks. We should have paid attention to my own review and now the hundreds of others talking about the bad service. Obviously the owners don't care. Year after year of bad service.....ehh food reviews and they are still in business. The Lexington consumers are the fools for going back and i have been one but no more. Ever. read more

This is my go-to Mexican restaurant in Lexington. Arturo, Alejandro, David and Miguel, ( The manager, ) are the best! The service is always friendly and prompt, The food is amazing. I got the steak fajitas. The portions are huge and always cooked to perfection! I'm never disappointed when I come here. Kudos to La Carreta, friendly and efficient staff, excellent food. Overall. I have eaten there multiple times. The past two times that I have eaten there, there was a young female waitress, who was horrible. Not only is she absent minded but very slow and compounded by a non-caring attitude. The first time that I had her as a waitress, she hardly ever checked on me. She also, gave me the check and demanded payment right then and there. The problem was that I was still eating. In case you were wondering, no I had not been rude to her during my visit, at all! I was generous enough to give her a decent tip. I did tell the gentleman at the pay counter that I did not like the service but tipped her anyway. The second time was the same young female was my assigned waitress. She never came back to check on me after my food was received. My drink glass went dry. I had to ask another service member to find her. She brought me my check after my request. I watched her do that to every customer on her roster. When I paid the second time, the same gentleman was at the pay counter. I told him I was dissatisfied with the service and what had occurred. His response was "Well, when you come back just don't use the same girl". What an awesome professional response for the service industry . I never complain. I informed them that I would leave a small tip because everybody has to eat. I will not be back at this location, ever again! The food is OK but the service is generally bad. If you like gambling, please go to the restaurant to eat your dinner. read more

This place would rank about a 3.5 if we could give half stars. I give it three stars simply because it's a down the middle of the road Mexican restaurant. In my opinion there is nothing to set this restaurant apart from other similar restaurants but with that said, there's not much negative to say either. The times I have been there, they have been over staffed but still don't give the attention needed to their patrons. The food is typical with no complaints. My son says they have the best salsa but I don't see anything different about it than other places. I've always been told to eat before grocery shopping and with place right beside Walmart, it's a win, win. read more

We loved this place at first... 2nd time they argued with me over charging me for veggies that I didn't receive. Yes I wanted them, nope never got them. Decided to give them a 3rd shot... Well after getting our drinks we waited almost 20 minutes for our order to be taken... keep in mind, maybe 6 tables tops. Super dead. And I had to go in and find our server Daughter asked for a corn dog w fries... What did she get... fries.. Manager was super rude, didn't understand what the problem was. My ACP lacked major flavor. Used to love coming here when they first opened up.. everything has gone slack. I try to give it the benefit of the doubt when friends or families want to come eat here and I'm their guest.. but I wouldn't come here on my own. Their service is horrible. Never a waiter/waitress in sight after your food is placed and brought to the table. Drinks aren't filled and you can ask for anything if you needed it because they don't come back to check in you. The food has gone down as well. If you order anything with shrimp make sure you tell them to cook it long because he still taste raw, or I don't k ow if it's just bad shrimp.. but it's not good. Not that I would, but you can almost walk out the place without paying because he takes them forever to come up to the register to check you out.. as well as being seated.. just not as good as it used to be. Staffed needs to be retrained or the old ones need to go because they aren't much help. read more

I had a similar experience to George J's review and never went back. I usually tip 20% even when the experience isn't good because I understand it's not always the server's fault. This time it was, I wanted to order another drink and dessert but he never came back. I had to hunt down someone to get my check and to-go box so I left a penny tip on the table. I've gone to this place off and on for a year and today was the last time. Something is always wrong with the order regardless if I order or carry out. While dining in the servers are understaffed and under qualified. Sometimes it gets to the point where I've had to find the boxes myself and ask the host for the ticket because our server is so neglectful. This is every time. When you order take out there's always something wrong with the order. Whether they add something or take leave it off it's a constant and I have to wait in line because from what I over hear, it's not a rare occurrence for others as well. One last thing if they say your food will be ready in 20 minutes expect to wait an extra 10 to 20 minutes. I'm frustrated, I'm tired and I understand that it's hard to run a restaurant but La Carreta I hope you can do better in the future. read more

Went to eat with some friends and the waitress at first just gave me rice, forgot my shrimp and went to put in the order. I said I wanted a half order of shrimp and she gave me a whole order. I tried disputing it and the manger basically no right off the bat. They charge o my for full order. The waitress should've explained that to me and should've listened to what I was telling her. Horrible! Ordered beef nachos and they were soaked in the liquid from the lettuce. Had to eat with a fork. No tomatoes and when I asked for them they said they were left off because they were out of tomatoes yet they were all over everyone else's plates! It was a sloppy mess of guacamole, sour cream, water and a ton of lettuce on a dozen nachos. Ordered a fried ice cream as we were there for a birthday. What we got was one scoop of vanilla ice cream under two inches of whipped cream with chocolate sauce drizzled on top. No corn flakes or anything fried. read more

The last 3 times I've went have been horrible. Previous 2 i called in food & was told 15 minutes. Both ended up being 40+ minutes. Today,however i called in food & went to pick up & he hadnt put my order in stating he didnt know if i wanted chicken or beef but i stated in call -CHICKEN. We used to love La Carreta. We would come here every week and enjoy the best Mexican food. However we have visited this restaurant at least three times in the past three months and it's gotten to be awful. All of the waitresses are concerned with hanging out in the back and not making an appearance up front. They sit in the back and watch the soccer or football games at the bar. We have actually witnessed them sitting back there when the restaurant is full of guests waiting to be served. Also, there are only two people that seem to be able to work the cash register. And it takes forever to find them just so you can pay for the mediocre food that was set in front of you. The food used to be so good, and I still believe they have the best salsa around. However, it saddens me to see how downhill it has went. Every time I have been recently, my food has been cold. The plate has been hot, the cheese sauce will be hot, the rice will be hot because of the cheese, but the meat is cold. When you choose to send it back, you don't get an apology or anything, they send it back to warm it up with it only becoming a couple more degrees warmer. I guess the food would be warmer too if the waitresses paid attention to when the food is put out. It makes me sad to see that I'm having to give them a bad review. I used to love La Carreta and I love the people there (the ones that have been there since opening and do their job). I wish they would step up their game and become the restaurant they once were. I do, however, recommend visiting the Thomasville location. It is far better than this. read more

I used to enjoy La Carreta, but today was just awful. Our waitress was at our table a total of three times and seemed to be annoyed that she had to help us. There was a birthday happening in the kitchen and we heard them loudly singing happy birthday in Spanish in the kitchen. Our four plates of food came out in three trips. My daughter got a chile relleno and it was some garbled up mass that did not resemble a chili any longer. It looked like it went through a food processor. Even paying for my meal was a chore. I had to wait twelve minutes before someone came to take my payment. I am done with this place especially when there are plenty of far better Mexican places I could've went. read more

Walked into the restaurant at 6:35 right away with no problem. Sat down and our waiter greeted us and asked us for our drink order. My boyfriend had gotten a bottle of Corona and I had gotten a frozen strawberry margarita, we also asked for a large cheese dip. The first time the waiter came out, he brought the right beer, but a lime margarita instead of a strawberry and a small cheese dip. He fixed the margarita problem right away, came back with the right order, but very liquidy not like a frozen margarita should be, and asked us for our food order and never got our cheese dip the right size. At this point it was 6:45, figured the waiter would put our food order in. A couple of tables came in and we noticed at about 6:55 that those tables had already gotten their food and one table had actually left at that time. Around 7:15 another table got up and was leaving, we were still waiting on our food. My boyfriend at this point has gotten up to talk to the manager. The manager was very understanding about the whole situation and understanding that we did not want to wait even longer for our food the potentially come out. read more

Every time I visit my family here in Lexington, NC-- self-proclaimed BBQ capital of the US - and somehow I always end up eating the Mexican food here. Over the years, I've had few lunches/dinners here and it is always good. They have the biggest Mexican food restaurant menu that I have seen so there are plenty of varieties. My personal favorites are Spicy chicken diablo or Chipotle chicken combo -- they also have great nachos. As any other Mexican place, they do give you free chips and salsa which is not the best so you will have to save your judgment till you eat the real food. What I love about this place is the consistency, food is always the same and always fresh & delicious. Since I am from NY area, everything around here is a reasonable price for me but this place is really cheap. They also have a full bar with few TVs, you can get 24oz of tap beer for $2.99 any day - that's a WIN in my book. They have plenty of seating, service is great and the place is very clean. If you are in the area and tired of eating BBQ food, give this place a try--you won't be disappointed. Note: If you skip the desert, they sell chocolate (mini kit-kat, snickers, new York mint..etc) for 25 cents in the front where you will be paying your bill. read more

For being here during lunch hours I was very disappointed by the kitchen. Got seated after the guy was done talking on the phone. Got to the booth noticed not too busy at noon. Waiter was fast and cheery and took my order in a hurry which was a simple burrito California 35 minutes later and of course they carry it out with oven mitts. Sadly the only heat was from spices otherwise it was luke warm at best. Won't do this place again. At checkout they didn't even have the courtesy to take the burrito off the bill. All they could say was 30 minutes is a long time to wait. read more

As a former server, it plays a large part in your dining experience. This establishment lacked service from both the hostess, and waitress. My family felt in the way, so to speak as we along with other families were either trying to enter, exit, pay, or waiting to be seated. Aftershuffling around a bit, we were seated approximately 15 minutes later. It took another 12 minutes for our drinks to arrive, and another 10 minutes afterasking our server for our chips and salsa to join us. The meal quality was however, delicious; just don't choke or attempt spicy cuisine as you might not have any beverage left or can not find a waitress to ask for refills! read more

I offered to pay for the chips and salsa that I had eaten but the hostess said it was fine to leave and didn't seem very concerned that I never got my food. I have not eat at La Carreta in a year due to no or poor service. So decided to give a try tonight. Was seated quickly but that's where the service stopped. Sat there for 10 minutes and at least 10 servers walked past with out even speaking so we decided to leave because of no service. Asked to speak to the manager and then was told the manager was on break and would not come out to speak with me. There was at least 6 tables in my section that was empty so they were not busy or a lack of staff. I will not be back and hope u don't waste ur time either read more

All things are nice about La Caretta in Lexington. The staff are friendly and smile a lot. We get seated quickly and our orders taken, and they check on you often, even when they are very crowded. They offer a mild version of their salsa which is smooth but very tasty. We love the guacamole dip that has a hint of heat and wonderful small bits of tomatoes. What makes La Caretta stand out is the mouthwatering flavor of the beef. It has just the right spices and chopped onions. Portions are hearty and prices are reasonable. My husband's favorite is the quesadilla with a big gooey gob of melted cheese inside and creamy cheese sauce poured over the top. There is an outdoor patio which is pleasant. La Caretta is very good about offering coupons in the local newspaper, which we appreciate. read more

Just ordered food for carry out. Got there and they said the girl had never put our order in. Okay that's not good but I'm ok. Don't mind waiting for a few minutes. Food arrived timely. Took 3 meals home. Unfortunately all meals were wrong. 1 meal missing all sides. Second meal was such slop that I could not eat it. 3rd meal missing both sides. When you spend $40 bucks on a meal you kind of expect it to at least be close to right. So I call and ask if maybe we could take our food back and get it prepared correctly. Girl says sorry we can't do anything. Our managers not here so we can't help you. Look I actually own a restaurant so I know we sometimes make mistakes but I'm always a phone call away. If you're not gonna take care of your customers then how do you expect to stay in business. I would highly advise to anyone to. never ever waste mine on this place. There are to many good restaurants around that you may at least may have a better meal. I would give them negative stars but that was not a choice. read more
