Haven't been here in years. The hubby and I joined my parents here after church for breakfast. Waited for about 1/2 an hour to be seated. The inside of the restaurant looks nicer with the booths. Customer service was good. I was a little shocked to see how much more expensive their plates are now. We paid $23 for our A Caballo Chilaquile plate (which we shared). We also added a side off eggs and flour tortillas. The scrambled eggs were burnt. The tortillas were just as amazing as I remembered them. Salsa and chips were good too. We waited 30 minutes for a table while smaller groups were seated immediately as they arrived. About nine groups who walked in after us were sat right away, simply because they were parties of four and we were five. When we asked about it, the staff just shrugged and said it was because of our group size. The hostess was rude and acted like she didn't care at all. With so many businesses struggling in San Diego, you'd think they'd care more about how they treat people. Let me start by saying that if you know you know this is a neighborhood restaurant (it's been around for 32 years). A small restaurant being around for that long is an OBVIOUS SIGN THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS. They have seating for around 65 people give or take so it's not huge or tiny. They were busy for the end of lunch and actually slayed giving us all of our additional requested items but we also asked for everything at once. I see another review on here complaining about not getting everything they asked for but I would BET they asked for each item in 5 minute increments during a really busy time (it's giving never worked in food and not compassionate for service workers busting their butts). THE FOOD, look at the pictures tell me you don't want to phone in an order or meet your friends there next week!!! My shrimp fajitas were plentiful and came out hot and flavorful. My husbands burrito had the most tender and well marinated machaca. My grandpa indulged in his chille relleno and chicken enchilada. Everything was flavorful, hot, and delicious. Lastly, to complain about prices any year after 2020 makes you look stupid. Noticed that they are remodeling which looks amazing but they are having us pay for it. We ordered a cafe de Hoya which wasn't the regular way it's made. I can't tell you if this is authentic Mexican food as I have no idea what that would be, but the meal reminded me of when I traveled in Central America and was fed by amazing home cooks.
