Albondigas

I was hesitant of trying this place because it looks like a hole in the wall, but I gotta say it was really good. The food was delicious the coffee, the drinks and Micheladas and posole. Everything was good. The tortillas are freshly made, and the prices are totally affordable.

Haven't been here in years. The hubby and I joined my parents here after church for breakfast. Waited for about 1/2 an hour to be seated. The inside of the restaurant looks nicer with the booths. Customer service was good. I was a little shocked to see how much more expensive their plates are now. We paid $23 for our A Caballo Chilaquile plate (which we shared). We also added a side off eggs and flour tortillas. The scrambled eggs were burnt. The tortillas were just as amazing as I remembered them. Salsa and chips were good too. The flour tortillas were the highlight of our meal. I may try some of their caldo in the future.... Hopefully it'll be a different experience.

Pollo quesadillas

Great food with a lot of options here! They make all of their flour and corn tortillas in-house. They have a good sized dining area with plenty of tables. My husband got the pollo quesadillas, and I got the carne asada tacos. Our food came out fairly quickly, and was delicious! So flavorful and yummy! And very fresh. I look forward to coming back for more!

- as usual great customer service - tasty fresh food - casual friendly ambiance Still one of the best places around town for menudo -- clean, flavorful, and made with care! The handmade tortillas and guacamole are always fresh and the perfect combo. This spot never disappoints!

Piping hot bowl of birria de Chivo!
Chris P.

Had a huge bowl of birria de chivo soup was tender & delicious. Fresh tortillas, side of rice and a michelada to wash it all down. Got a fish taco & it was ok, they should make the tortilla smaller for that item cuz all I tasted was corn tortilla. Super fast and friendly service & will try the other soups and breakfast next visit. With everything getting so expensive these days the prices were fair.

Full menu and prices...yikes!

Fresh chips and salsa are good to start as appetizers. Been coming here since it opened over 25 yrs ago! Great service always! Decor is slightly different with added TVs. The only major difference is the prices, but everything is way more expensive nowadays. The menudo was delicious as the first time I ate it here. My brother had French toast and eggs and liked it. My son had the cheese omelette and beans and potatoes. He seemed to like it as he cleaned the plate. The freshly made tortillas are awesome.

Food was delicious, I got chicken pozole & got some free chips and salsa which were also delicious, everything tasted authentic ! As soon as you walk in you smell handmade tortillas, and see them being made which you guessed it... also DELICIOUS! Service was great, our server was attentive with refills and overall nice! Would recommend to someone looking for an authentic mexican restaurant !

One cup of coffee was 5.50 ? That's so ridiculous! With no refills I don't complain much ever specially about prices but a regular plain black coffee seems to way too much. And it wasn't even good.

Albóndigas soup
Oscar R.

Hands-down, the best albóndiga soup! The broth is rich and flavorful, packed with perfectly seasoned meatballs, tender veggies, and just the right amount of spice. You can tell it's made with care almost takes me back home. tastes like something straight from my moms kitchen. Comforting, filling, and honestly one of the best bowls of soup I've had in a long time. Highly recommend if you're in the area a not so hidden gem! And don't get me started on the homemade flour tortillas order the quesadilla I must have! Ring the whole family has a home like feel

On top of them forgetting our order, the red menudo stank like pata. This was for sure the last time I'll be going to this place.

Service can be a little hit or miss depending on who's at the register but nothing horrible. The area itself isn't the greatest and you'll definitely get that classic hood taco shop vibe but honestly that's usually where the good food is at. Overall the food keeps me coming back

I'm waiting.... I'll put La Lomitas rolled tacos up against anybody's, ANYBODY'S! Covered in freshly made, still green guacamole, tomatoes, and shredded cheese, these bad boys are smackin'! $9.25 for 5 rolled tacos isn't terrible, but you might as well phone a friend on some Who Wants to Be a Millionaire type ish and order that 12 pack for $16.99. Ya feel me? If you don't, you will. And don't forget to peep out all of the accoutrements at the salsa bar-4 different salsas, pickled red onions, limes, radishes, and hot carrots, all gratis my amigo. Say whaaaaaat!? Yes, they kindly ask that you don't go overboard and request you take only 2 salsas per item, but just don't be greedy and you should be fine. The salsa bar was super clean and the salsas were delicious. I've also had carne asada fries here (always ask for extra crispy) and they're delicious as well. If you're not asking for your carne asada fries to be extra crispy at any taco shop, you're just doing it wrong. Enjoy my friends! Thanks to La Lomita and crew for coming through again. You guys really shine.

You order and pay first, then they call your name when everything's ready. Service was nice and straightforward. The salsa bar was clean and stocked with fresh limes, two salsas, and radishes. There are a few tables inside plus a bigger table, but we chose to sit outside on the patio. It was clean, comfortable, and the weather made it easy to eat outside. Cabeza: $3.69. Super juicy and packed with flavor. If you like cabeza, this one hits. It came with onions and cilantro and didn't need much else. Lengua: $4.38. Lengua is usually my go-to, and this one was cooked really well. Not greasy at all, which I appreciated. The texture was right, and the flavor was solid, especially with extra lime. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't order more than one at that price. Adobada: $3.69 each. These were my husband's favorite. They come with a creamy green salsa that isn't at the salsa bar, and it pairs really well with the pork. Probably the safest order here. I'd come back to try other items since they have a lot of different cuts and styles, but the prices do make you pause a little, especially if you're ordering multiple tacos.

Tacos El Gordo has always been my go-to spot when I come home, and the food is still good, but some…read moreof the changes have turned me off a bit. The biggest change is the ordering process. You now have to pay first, then wait for your food to be made. I actually preferred the old setup where you could walk to the different stations, pick your tacos, watch them prepare everything fresh, get it packed up, and then pay at the end. It felt like part of the experience. We also have to talk about the pricing. I remember when these tacos were around $1.25 each. Now they're over $4 for a mini street taco. I understand this is California and the cost of goods has increased, but that is a drastic jump. That said, I don't want to take away from the food because the tacos are still excellent. I ordered two buche tacos and a quesadilla, and both were 10 out of 10. They don't miss when it comes to seasoning and flavor. The service is still quick as well. My only real complaint is the price. It feels overpriced for what you're getting, and honestly, it may explain why there weren't many people there when we visited. There were only a handful of customers inside. The food is still worth trying, but be prepared for some serious sticker shock.
