I love both El Pollo Grill locations close to me. The Bonita and Otay Ranch locations. They're consistently good and very tasty. Today I ordered the beef taco and a fish taco. Both were delicious. I feel like their salsa bar is a level above other taco shops in the area. Service is always on point and the restaurant is always clean. They are ranked in my top 3 taco shops of all time! I forgot that Kids Eat Free on Wednesdays but I ordered on the El Pollo Grill (EPG) Website and they utilize the Chow Now App for online ordering. The app told me that my order would be ready for pickup in 20 mins at 6:26p. The parking lot was packed, and that would have been a clue. I arrived at 6:20p and the place was so packed that there were about 4-5 people outside waiting. I noticed that all orders were running late. From orders in house, to-go orders, online orders for pickup, and Uber Eats orders for pickup and delivery, they were all behind. The Uber Eats orders seemed to be getting made faster. This is probably because on Wednesdays, Kids Eat Free, which is pretty great. My order was ready 15 mins after the app estimated pickup time. It was understandable because the place was packed! There was no inside seating, but there was still outside seating. I got my food home and there were no utensils, napkins, nor salsas to go in the bag. It was so crowded that I could not navigate to the salsa bar, the condiments station, and barely got a soda. The fountain soda machine was being held up by 2 toddlers. Their dad was letting them reach up to press buttons to get their own drinks...which was cute but backed up the line to 6-7 of us waiting. The food tasted great as usual. Omg... this place is absolutely delicious! My fiancée gets her nails done in Chula Vista, and it's a treat to come here after. I always order the half-chicken plate, which essentially is a half grilled chicken, Mexican rice, beans, and tortillas. You can choose between flour and corn, and we always get a mix. The chicken has never been dry, and the rice reminds me of the rice I ate growing up in a farming community in the Central Valley. This place does get busy around lunch and dinner time, but we are always able to find a seat. There is some outdoor seating. We got two fountain drinks but were disappointed by the odor and flavor we found in every one we tried--mold or mildew. Perhaps it's time to replace the machine or have it completely disassembled and professionally cleaned. I love coming here for catering. They always give big amount of food for great pricing. They have plenty of seating. The kids love their rolled tacos and carnesada burrito. I will say their grilled chicken is amazing too, but they do not give you salsa with your catering which is a bummer. But overall this spot is my go to for catering when hosting parties or my staff meetings. read more

Wife really likes their beef rolled tacos. Picked up 2 orders of five tacos. Come with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, guacamole and sour cream. There was a big ordered being filled so took a little longer than usual. While there, there was a constant flow of customers. They are known for their charbroiled chicken which is very good. The great sides help make it a complete meal. Take a look at their unique burritos and fillings (see pic). While there I saw a burrito being finished and wrapped and it was huge! They also have chips, fries and bowls. Look at their "Ingredients of Styles " to get the ingredients you want on your item. The owner is from Chula Vista (go CPHS!) and really cares about his community. I've been at fund raisers at his Otay Ranch location. He is big on commending teachers during Teacher Appreciation week by giving them free food. My wife loves her free burrito. We enjoy EPG! read more

Food: Good burrito, I'm not usually a fan of chorizo but I thought I'd try it anyway. The Titan. Not bad, but I remember why I'm not a huge fan of chorizo, it's too greasy. If I go again, I'll try something with grilled chicken. Service: Busy place! But if it's busy, it's usually because they are good. Friendly servers, they were fast, no complaints! Atmosphere: It's a little small inside, so make sure you plan accordingly. But they have some pretty cool murals on the wall! An axolotl in a Median place? Cool! Price: I'd say it's a little steep but everything is going up lately so I expect it. But like 15$ for a burrito minimum... I mean, a 20$ standard burrito isn't too far off in the future sadly. Overall: It's good. I don't know why I got chorizo, that was an impulse. Read other reviews of mine, I like to try stuff I've never seen before or had in a while, so I was like WTH so that's on me. TERRIBLE SERVICE!!! I will not be coming back to this place or any of their locations again! I placed an online order I payed in the restaurant wasn't told any further information about my order, I was sitting and waiting for my order about 40 minutes at this point they locked the door so people wouldn't come in to place any new orders, people that were there after me were getting their orders fulfilled. I'm still waiting around and no one is saying my order is ready, no one is acknowledging me, at this point no one else is in the restaurant and the employees aren't asking about anything just ignoring that I'm the only one sitting there, I go up to the register and ask the employee about my order she looks at the rack they have for online orders and says oh this is your order, she does not apologize for any inconvenience, she also mentions that they "highlight" orders that are ready which I didn't see any of that. At this point the food is cold and I've been waiting an hour so I ask for a refund and she points to a sign that says no in restaurant refunds that you have to email them for a refund. So I go home and email them and the email says that I am blocked from sending it. The lack of acknowledgement, apologies and customer service are all the things that will make me NEVER come back. The fact that it is this difficult to get a refund is a red flag as well! Save your money do not come to this place please! read more

I heard great things about this spot, so we went here after having pizza next door. You can see them cook the chicken in the window while you wait for your order! We got a California burrito, surf and turf fries, beef rolled tacos, and the 12- piece chicken meal. The burrito was loaded with lots of meat! This is becoming our go to spot and becoming regulars! Great service and location IMO! Place is always clean and busy. Their food is delicious! Been going to the La Mesa Location for a long time. Some of the best grilled chicken I've had. Seasoned well and always moist. They have some of the best Mexican rice I've had. Their shrimp burritos are the most filled I've had with lots of shrimp rice and the right amount of sauce. It's delicious. Their carne asada fries are always on point. They even allowed us to have it with shrimp and the carne on the side. Their militias, chilaquiles burrito and carne burritos are all delicious and full and great size. All their sauces especially the orange sauce are spot on. Best be sure we're bringing these to the ballpark this Padres season! read more

I ordered the surf and turf (with chicken) and was really looking forward to it, but the experience was very disappointing. I expected FRESH grilled chicken; instead, it tasted over-fried, extremely salty, and more like small scraps than a proper portion. The entire dish--chicken, fries, and the tartar/chipotle-style sauce--was overwhelmingly salty. I was offered cotija cheese for an additional charge, which I agreed to, but that only added to the saltiness. The shrimp was the only part of the dish that was somewhat enjoyable. I don't usually send food back, but given the price, I felt it was important to say something. I explained to the staff that the dish was far too salty and even suggested adding something like guacamole or beans to help balance the flavors. While I appreciated the offer to remake it, the second plate was essentially the same--just with the sauce and cheese on the side--so the issue wasn't really addressed. Unfortunately, when I tried to eat the remake, I found a hair in the food. At that point, I had lost my appetite entirely. I scooped out the hair, packed the food to go and left. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience, especially considering the cost. Between the quality of the food and the lack of a meaningful resolution, I would not return to this location. read more

The parking can be a challenge so I call in my order and then akways go with a family member that can jump out to grab the food while I circle the parking lot or I use a delivery service. It's been a while since I've had fast casual food that was this good. It might not look like much from the pictures, but it was packed with flavor. I don't know what they put in those beans and I don't want to know, I could drink them. I got the half chicken with rice and beans and an extra side of rice and beans. Was totally enough for two people to share the chicken expertly seasoned and fall off the bone tender they make three different types of salsa and and all of them were super tasty. They have most of all your typical Mexican dishes most taco shops carry, although they are known for their rotisserie style chicken. Love this San Diego chain for flame broiled chicken! People tend to confuse this with "El Pollo Loco", but NOT the same, EPG is way better. I've been eating here for a few years now since I discovered it at this bonita and otay ranch location. Both these locations offer a 10% military discount, but the restaurant in spring valley does not for some reason. Service has never been an issue, everyone is always kind. I like to order the monday special which is a 12 piece chicken with two large sides for about 30 bucks. The burritos here are also really tasty and portion sizes are good. read more

We went on Taco Tuesday and ordered the Pollo Asado Tacos, we got a total of 5 tacos and they were HUGE and packed with chicken, guac and pico de gallo. I seriously was full off of one taco.
