Hey, it's authentic and very flavorful! I've been several times and I can't believe that I haven't reviewed this restaurant before. They must need a fresh review and perspective. The dining room is very specious with a bar in the back of the room. They have added TVs and I even saw a disco ball in the ceiling which leads me to believe that there must be some time that they turn this into a dance party! I can see them doing the salsa and Macarena. The waitress was pretty friendly. She had about 6-7 tables all by herself and she handled them very well. I ordered the stewed chicken which comes in this flavor filled gravy. I can literally drink the sauce it comes in and I believe I have! The rice and beans were just my side and very good. I enjoyed my lunch and anytime I'm on this side of town I'll definitely stop by and grab lunch. read more

This is a hole-in-the wall place on a busy street. I ordered take out, and was happy that my food was ready and prepared right when I arrived. The food itself is pretty standard. Pollo guisado was a bit greasy and I wish they had used some more spice. The meat itself had a nice, falling-off-the bone texture. The mofongo was great! I had never tried this before and was pleasantly surprised by the texture (soft but also crispy), and homey flavor. For the amount of food, the price was reasonable. I wish they had more parking availability, as this was the greatest challenge to getting my food. We finally came here in August. We pass it all the time and we've been wanting to check it out for the last couple of years. I was a little hesitant because you can't see into the restaurant at all but it was finally time to make it happen. I've had mofongo a handful of times (not sure how that is the case growing up in NYC and having lots of dominican friends) so I'm no expert but this is similar to what I've had in the past. It was very flavorful and pretty much what I expected. I love tostones to the point where i ordered a side of it... it was a little much, I know. I was happy with our meal and service overall. The restaurant space is kind of weird - its a really big space and wasn't very full (we came around lunch time on a Sunday). So it was awkward to sit in the middle of this huge room. It must double as a place to party at night or just be full of people dancing because its awkward as a restaurant space. Anyway, I'm rambling. It also took a long time to get our food and I was pregnant and super hungry which didn't help. When my boyfriend suggested we try La Casa Del Mofongo, I was excited. He understands my affinity for hole-in-the-wall restaurants and international cuisine, as he feels the same. And he was excited too, because he's Puerto Rican and loves mofongo. I've never had mofongo before, but I loved it and thought it was great. I was a little worried when I saw the star rating here, but I didn't have to be. My boyfriend considered it authentic, so I'll take his word for it. I had chicharron with my mofongo. I was going to order the fried pork, but am happy I went with this option. It was super crisp and tasty. As for the mofongo, I thought it was great--the sauce was really flavorful and the whole dish was filling. He had the grilled chicken version, and enjoyed it. I tried a piece of chicken and thought it was good and tender. We ordered some rice and beans as well, and I didn't love the beans, but the rice was good. My passion fruit mojito was delicious and strong, but please look closely at your bill--I was charged for three when I only had two. So be careful. Happy hour ($3 and $2 beers) is offered from 3-7 p.m. on weeknights. Our server was really friendly and helpful. The restaurant is bigger than it looks, and quite clean. It's casual, with several TVs showing news, sports, and telenovelas. The parking lot is off Columbia Boulevard, which I wish I would have known before pulling into a tiny driveway and having to back out (in tears) onto Georgia. Came here with a few friends for dinner last week. We luckily found a parking lot around the corner that was free since it was past 6pm. The inside of the restaurant was larger than I anticipated and a couple friends were already at the table waiting for us. We luckily made it in time to take advantage of the great happy hour. I got a delicious mojito while other friends got pina coladas and cheap beers. We ordered the family platter to share with the table and since I have a weird pork allergy I tried to be careful with what I sampled! The tostones were delicious, especially with the sauce they bring you in the squeeze bottle. The fried salami was the item that everyone seemed to go for and I think I got a piece of fried chicken. There were some other pieces of meat I wasn't quite sure about. I think if we came here again we'd just order two plates of tostones. Those were the standout for us. Our waitress was friendly and accomodating for our large group. Food did seem to take quite long to get to us though. Once we demolished the family platter we were all hungry and ready for our main courses. I ordered the steak and onions with mofongo. Steak was thin but seasoned well with plenty of onions on top. I'm not too experienced with mofongo so I can't say how authentic it was, but it was very filling. It came with a sauce to combat the dry texture as well. I'm pretty sure there was pork in there, but it was my fault for not checking beforehand. Overall the food was pretty good and decently priced. Drinks not on happy hour special aren't really worth the cost. Trying to pay our bills was a big headache though as different items appeared on the wrong bills. Eventually it got sorted out though! Yummy ! Moving from New York Dominican food is very hard to find and this is great. Parking tip is there is no parking you have to place the order and go park at the BP gas station if you miss it because your GPS tells you to go in an alley that is the reason. It is directly in front of or next to a MetroPCS store so GPS MetroPCS for an appropriate address. If you are on seminary place it's right in front of that across the road. Small portions and all meals come with white rice unless you specify other wise. read more

Food was very good with generous portions. Flavor was great. The sweet plantains were cooked perfectly. Very hot, soft and chewy. The sugary plantains were caramelized perfectly without burning. Service. Our server was very friendly and helped us with the menu when she realized it was our first time there and also didnt understand Spanish. Very helpful and made recommendations. She explained the differences between some of the similar dishes on the menu. One of our Puerto Rican friends says this is one of her favorite places for good home style cooking. Me Gusta Mofongo The food and service were exquisite! Ive been hankering for some Mofongo ever since I left PR this past Spring. And this place did not disappoint. I had the shrimp mofongo with a side of oxtail. Oooooh my gosh my mouth is salivating just thinking about it. It was sooooo good. I came to this place to try out the Mofongo. I ended up getting the lunch special. I truly enjoyed my food, and I definitely would like to come back to actually try them for mofongo! I chose the lunch special because the price was right! You get a lunch size portion of food along with a soda. The bartender was very nice the people were very hospitable. I would like to come here to try Mofongo because I cannot find places that can do it right in this area. I would deathly come back again for another lunch special. Our family ordered from them for the first time and enjoyed the food. The customer service is OUTSTANDING! They called us after we picked up our food when they believed that they had forgotten an item in our order. They offered to bring it to our home. Fortunately, they only forgot an order of plantains so it was no big deal and we certainly weren't going to ask someone to deliver that to us. Went last night for takeout. The stewed chicken with rice and beans was not good according to my husband. My mother's pernil (roast pork) was dry and old. I tasted her rice and peas, and my husband was right. It was underwhelming. My Trifongo with Garlic Shrimp was to die for! I also ordered 1/2lb of pork chicharron. Most of the chunks were dry and hard to eat. I recommend only the Mofongo and the Trifongo. I prefer the Trifongo because I like the balance of the sweetness from the Maduro (sweet plantain). Extremely unprofessional! We waited at least a half an hour before anyone acknowledged us. The waitress with the braids was racist and didn't want to help us. Every time she walked past us I would try and get her attention she would completely roll her eyes and ignore us, then send someone else to help us. I'm going to clarify a few things. 1. Mofongo is Puerto Rican and I don't think there's such a thing as Dominican style. Dominicans make mangu, which involves boiling the plantain rather than frying it. It's delicious in its own right. Think of it as boiled egg vs. fried. By converse, if we were talking mangu, I'd say there's no such thing as Puerto Rican style mangu. Each cuisine has its own native dishes. 2. Mofongo is supposed to have garlic. Theirs did not (at least I didn't taste any). That's mofongo 101 and to fail at that is just unforgivable. 3. The mofongo would look so much prettier if they removed the top from the mofongo lump, made a little bowl, and put the meat in there, rather than on the side. 4. Carne frita is indeed fried, but it's not supposed to be burnt on the outside and rubbery on the inside. Get it together. This food wasn't good. But the locale is nice. I wish them well but they have to step up the food quality in a major way. read more

They were out of it. This place turns into a karaoke club on Friday nights. We were also there when they were filming a Telemundo episode there. Apparently the owner is friends with a Telemundo host and sometimes they film their talk shows there. We were there on a lucky night. This place has a very authentic feel. We were the only non-Hispanic people there on a Friday night. It almost felt like we were back at a local restaurant in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The music is extremely loud on Friday evenings. They have really amazing speakers here. It was hard to talk without shouting. I liked their mofongo, and the great garlicky sauce you can pour over it. The goat stew was very salty. Some of the things are the menu are priced oddly. Like a side of veggies is 7.99, but the mofongo is like ~$3 or something. I got the veggies as my free side that comes with the dish, it was just steamed broccoli, etc. The really nice waiter explained that some dishes come with a free side while others do not. It's not clearly marked on the menu. Good to get some help from the waiters when ordering if you are new. I came in from out of town it was recommended this restaurant from a local. I was pretty excited at first but when I arrived I was a little disappointed. Very plain establishment that looked a little dirty. I was with a group of 4 friends. We had a couple appetizers and each had the mofongo ( chicken, shrimp, steak). Although we wanted some pasteles they said it would be 45 minutes for an appetizer?!? The service was poor and after 30 minutes they started blaring music to the point we could barely hear each other. Definitely not conducive to a nice dinner. As far as the food it was decent but it was some of the hardest mofongo I have ever had. A large piece of most chipped a tooth! The flan was excellent and the best part If the meal. This place provides a great experience with friends, family and/or loved ones. The waitstaff is very attentive from the moment you walk through the door. The ambience is wonderful if you're in a mood for lively salsa and merengue AND the food is great. For an appetizer we ordered the Picadera platter while great on portion size and variety had overlooked sausage and bacon wrapped cocktail sausages. The tostones and carnitas more than made up for it. I ordered the mofongo with bistek encebollado was finger licking good!
