Came in for takeout for their number 3 DonAlex special, which is only available for takeaway. For $30, you can get a whole chicken, rice or French fries, and a side salad. If you're looking from the outside this restaurant seems very casual. However, once you go inside it's more then that and I was surprised. I believe they do focus a lot on their takeout orders as I saw many people do carryout or delivery people. For food, I ordered the seafood soup as I was craving soup. There was all types of seafood such as crab, squid, clams, and etc.. and spaghetti noodles. It wasn't filling, but I was satisfied. Stopped by for lunch and was craving Peruvian food. I couldn't make up my mind how hungry I was, so I committed to smaller plates. Lucky for me the portions were big. I had the chicken soup (small, but as you can see in the photo, still very large) and seafood ceviche. Both were very good. The ceviche has very large helpings of fish. I paired the meal with a mango smoothie, which was fresh. Service was very friendly and the decor was cozy. I'll definitely be returning to try some Peruvian style chicken and rice. read more

I recently enjoyed a meal of red snapper with maduros at a cozy Peruvian restaurant. The fish was fresh and flavorful, complemented perfectly by the sweet plantains. While the temperature of the environment was a little too hot, it could have been slightly better, I understand the challenges of a small establishment. What stood out most was the excellent service--attentive, friendly, and welcoming. Overall, a satisfying experience, and I'd gladly return! PS I also took the dessert of Tres leches home and ate it and it was awesome so good I would kindly recommend they put it in a soup container and not the one they gave me because it leaked out but it was beautiful and it was good. My family and I decided to eat here this weekend. Service was 8/10 we got seated right away . Place was pretty empty when we go there. (Party of 5) after a while it got filled up and busy. We didn't get our order taken for awhile and the table next to us who got there after got their order taken fairly quickly. Besides that the food was good. Only thing I would say is the shrimp was over cooked .Chicha was 10/10 freshly made lemonade, maracuyá juice 10/10 pitcher of sangria was ok too sweet for me. read more

Chicken was tender, fries were not as crispy to my liking (but I think it's a matter of preference). The servers were attentive, checked in to see if we needed anything. All was good until we made payment - when we noticed that they automatically added 20% for tip (which is fine, but would appreciate if they could let us know that tip was already included, instead of handing us the customer copy which had another tip column when they already charged us the tip amount). This is a cozy Peruvian restaurant with a couple of locations in Queens. It is not really for groups, as it is cramped inside and the tables and chairs are packed together making it feel even more cramped. We had several entrees: 1) Jalea - A deep fried seafood platter with fish, shrimp, calamari and fried yucca. Even their small size platter was absolutely massive and was too much food for two people. We could not finish it. This is a very rich dish and is great for seafood lovers. 2) Tallarin Verde - I have had better tasting versions of this Peruvian green spaghetti. It tasted slightly bland and it felt like they went too light on the cheese, spinach and basil. However, it was a generous size. 3) Pollo Empanizado - This piece of breaded fried chicken was excellent. It was super flat and the breading was perfectly crispy. And like everything else we had, the piece of chicken was huge. Don Alex is a great option for a Peruvian restaurant. I have been to other ones that did have slightly better tasting food, but this place makes up for it with huge portions. read more

Sad to say it was not a good experience or food. Rice was instant rice. My homemade lemonade was made from old limes, bitter and sour. My "maduros" plantains were burnt. And to top it off, they decided to clean the floor with bleach while I was still eating. I only say this in the hope that they will read it and be more vigilant if they want to stay open. Waited for over 20 minutes for my order as there's dine-in customers to tend to. Two staffs working the front end were a bit frazzled and overwhelmed with the orders. I waited outside the restaurant since there's no place to stand. After a bit of a wait, I finally got my order. Rotisserie chicken tasted good, goes so well with that special green sauce. My favorites from this place which I pick up To Go are the rotisserie chicken and a side order of tostones. The price can't be beat compared to various local Latin places serving the same in the neighborhood, at just under $18. The flavors aren't overpowering and the accompanying green sauce is just right spicy. Note update regarding payment, credit card payment accepted for orders greater than $20. Small little family-owned restaurant off of Queen's Boulevard... they offer you nuts and a spicy dip as an appetizer, which was an interesting addition to the meal because the menu didn't offer much of anything special. I ordered the calamari and the flavor was good but it was strange that they did not have a dipping sauce for it. My friend ordered the chicken and rice and she said it was very good but we all agreed that it was something that could be easily made at home and didn't offer any culture. As soon as we walked in, there were other people leaving, the waitress cleaned up their area and seated us there immediately. The waitress was very nice and patient with my kids. I ordered a pitcher of sangria & ceviche de pescado with tostones. My bff ordered 1/4 chicken with yellow rice and salad. The ceviche was perfection!!!! The flavor, consistency and overall spice was fantastic! I dipped my tostones in the lime/chili juice. The sangria was also great. It definitely gave me the effect I craved that particular night. Even after we finished eating, they didn't kick us out or imply that we should be leaving soon. Our group continued chatting for quite some time, we were there from 630pm to 900pm on a Friday evening. They didn't push the bill on us or anything. Whether it be perhaps there were no additional customers lining up at the door or perhaps this is how they regularly treat their customers, I was very satisfied. They would occasionally check on you to tale away dirty plates and make sure we had enough to drink. The food came out quick and smelling amazing. The dish my wife and I ordered was the meal, there's 3 set meals on their menu. We order #2, which came with a whole chicken, salad, fried hot dogs over fries, and yellow rice. All that for $22. I am used to going to my usual Peruvian place, Pollo Inka, on Queens Blvd. My friend who lives in Rego Park always raved about this place and how moist their chicken is. I decided to try take out since I was nearby. I am glad to say I did. I got combo number 1 which included whole chicken, yellow rice, salad, French fries which I swapped for sweet plaintain and a side of beans. Wow the chicken was moist indeed and cooked perfectly. The rice was so so but the beans was delish. The plantains too were nice and hot and not burnt and the salad was plentiful. The staffs there were very nice and looked like a good place for sit down. I am convinced that I will be going back again in the future for more. Please give this place a try and you won't regret it. Got there and it wasn't ready yet but in a few short minutes, my entire order came out. Piping hot and fresh food. The whole chicken comes chopped up (which I am grateful for because it saves time with guests). Extremely juicy and tender meat! Nice flavor and delicious chicken. Good sized salad with avocado on top. Comes with two containers of dressing. Salchipapa - the hot dog and french fry combo. Fries were perfectly fried. When I asked the server whether this was right I was told that management always adds a 20% tip plus a 4% charge for using a credit card (because they assumed that's how I wanted to pay.)
