La Casita is a wonderful little hole in the wall. It is actually a tortilla shop that began selling Mexican food. Everything here is homemade and fresh. Don't come expecting fine dining. There is no seating unless you count the picnic tables outside. But if you are looking to pick up a very good burrito, tamale, or some tacos to go, this is the place. You can also just pick up tortillas or masa for tamales. I used to stop here often when my wife worked nights and I had to do the cooking. I would get large orders of rice and beans, and some tortillas, then all I had to do was throw some meat on the grill. The kids loved it. They could live on the fluffy rice. This is a special spot in Merced. They make their own tortillas, which you'll be hard pressed to find at any other restaurant in merced. The inside has a homely, hole in the wall vibe to it. This is my first time at this place and the experience wasn't pleasant I ordered chile verde flour tortillas well when I got home the tortillas were still warm and to my surprise they were hard as a cardboard the chili verde didn't taste quite like chili verde it was spicy but just not authentic this is why I rated them 1 don't waste your time and go to this place. read more

I have been to this shop a few times to pick up Chile Verde for my Father in law. I am a white lady who speaks a little Spanish (I just moved here from another state) I ordered Chile Verde and Rice. The lady at the counter handed me a burrito. I told her this is not what I ordered and she got upset. she said "what do you want" I told her I wanted some chile Verde and rice, she said that is what she gave me, but I did not want it in a burrito, that made her even more upset. She then tossed the burrito at me and pointed to the menu and said "then you need to order what you want correctly." I don't even know what that means! I left. I wont be back. My dad in law can go get his Chile Verde himself. She scared me. Was she rude and mean because I'm white? I sure hope not. read more

Soooo good, I stopped by as I was driving by 99. It's very easy to get to with google maps, I called in my order and was ready upon arrival. The homemade tortillas make burritos 100x better! I only had the bean and rice burrito but personally, if you can achieve making a simple comfort food tasty then I expect greater things from the more complex menu. read more

I would say the best thing about this place is it is economically friendly and the food does come in large portions. I have tried this place a number of times. The chile verde was good a month or two ago. The last time I went the lady behind the counter gave me a weird attitude and this week the same surly attitude. I get the impression that because I am white, she does not want to serve me. When I ordered a bean and cheese burrito I asked if they had salsa verde - no ! nor did they have red salsa ! What Mexican restaurant doesnt have salsa verde ?? I ordered and when I went to pick it up - I asked what a green burrito was - OMG chile verde - gee could she have offered some chile verde sause? NOPE ! This is the real deal. Food tastes like authentic mexican food, not like pretend mexican food you get at Taco Bell or La Hacienda1/2. Best chile verde burrito dinners that i have ever tasted. I have been buying the burritos from this place since 1984 and the same guy still owns it. It is not a restaurant, but more like a grocery store/deli. It seems all the older locals know about this place, maybe we should keep it quiet. When you walk inside you'll know you're in a 'hole in the wall' establishment which is often where good food hides out. The counter is just inside the door, with a large menu board behind. The 'market' is a narrow aisle offering a tiny selection of goods. You can see the back kitchen where the food is prepared, and they fill your order quickly. There is nowhere to sit except for a lone picnic table out in front of the store. This place is all about the tortillas. They're a little thicker, a little crumbly, but stuffed with chile verde as a burrito they are incomparable. Don't wear your best shirt. read more

I always get a Bens burrito with no meat and it's amazing! The homemade tortillas are so good, and since I don't ask for meat they put more ingredients instead of making it smaller. I'm a local Mercedian & i haven't heard of this place until I was searching for taco shops in Merced one day. Let me just say, where the hell was I all this time? I love this place. On my first trip, I ordered 2 tamales, 1 small verde burritio and 2 beef tacos (were on special .99 each). The tamales were so delicious. It was steamed & very hot. The dough was delicious, as well as the filling. the small burrito and tacos were both were just as great. The second time that I went here, I ordered 2 tamales and Ben's special(gigantic burrito). It was very delicious, but too much for me to eat, so i had to share. I'll definitely go back here! read more

I just had the worst customer service ever called in my order like I have been doing for years they got my order wrong so my fiancé was being polite and asked them to fix it so instead of adding the ingredients in properly or making a new burrito they threw the ingredients in a box and tossed it to him. I went back in and instead of offering to fix it she said I didn't order right. I repeated my order several times and she was trying to argue with me. I just got my money back and took off so sad how horrible customer service is now. I hope the owner reads this and does something about it read more

Favorite Order: Chile Verde Burrito with Beans (and sometimes rice) It's time I return the favor to La Casita. A one stop shop for some Latino specific groceries and some quality food. It has served me the some of the best burritos since my childhood. Sadly, it is not very well known by even Mercedians, except for those who have been around the area for some time. It is hidden on the corner of O and 14th, nearly under the freeway. It's easy to miss. It has been said already, but the service is friendly, timely and the food is even better. I have been to a lot of Mexican restaurants, grew up in a Mexican neighborhood, lived in Mexico for a year and have eaten tons of Mexican food with my Mexican family. La Casita does their food, in general, well, but the one area where they set the bar a little higher is their flour tortilla. Floury, fresh, chewy, soft (not falling apart soft), aromatic, handmade and done exceptionally well. My mom =) and some woman I met on the Guatemala-Mexico border are the only ones that have competed with their tortillas. It is their tortilla that separates their burritos from the rest. They are so succulent and tasty with the juices from the food absorbing in the tortilla and making something as incredibly simple as a burrito taste much more complex, and layered with distinct flavors of chiles, tomatoes, garlic, beans, and juices that are really accentuated when contrasted with the tortilla. Do yourself a favor and abandon the Maria's, Jose's, and every other generic named taco joint for a day and give La Casita a go. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. read more

The food was okay the best part was the homemade tortilla but what made me deduct three stars was because I came in on a Monday afternoon & they were closed. Not only were they closed, but the pest control guy was the one to notify us that they were closed. I assumed maybe the place us getting sprayed down! Gross! They are probably infested with roaches!
