I first tried El Palmar because it had some of the best ratings on DoorDash. My dine-in experiences were also very pleasant. I usually order the Supreme Burrito. Idk what it is, but the burritos here are stellar and so moist and tasty. Hands down, the best burritos in Merced. El Palmar was also one of the first places to offer Birria in Merced. I have always enjoyed their Birria Tacos and would highly recommend. They also have Birria ramen too if you'd like to try it. The restaurant is pretty clean and has plenty of parking. If not, you can go park in the Chevron area next door. When dining in, they'll give you some chips and salsa. They do have beer available for dine-in. They don't have a self-serve salsa bar so you'll have to ask the cashier for all of your condiments (salsa, lime, etc). This is my favorite Mexican joint and has never let me down! Very delicious authentic Mexican food! My family and I are very picky with Mexican food being Mexican ourselves and one thing I'm always afraid of is getting a plate of greasy food that looks like fast food quality. Everything we ordered was made with fresh ingredients and tasted so divine! We tried the birria tacos, enchiladas, and torta. Everything was bomb but I highly reccomend the torta! This was one of the tastier meals I had on my visit in Merced. If you like birria tacos, this is a great place to grab one. It was Monday night, and we realized that a lot of things close early (especially on a holiday) and a quick yelp search took us to El Palmar. When we went in to order, I saw them making some birria tacos and I knew I had to try em. They only use 1 tortilla (those two tortilla birria tacos aint it, so bonus points for the single tortilla usage here lol), and the fry it up on the grill to get that crispy perfection. The pack the taco with meat and cheese, and the consome was heartwarming. My suggestion is that you should eat it there, because it ensures max crispiness. Even a short car ride, they got a lil soggy, so eat it there if you can. I also got a steak/shrimp burrito, which was huge and tasty. I wasn't a huge fan of the type of shrimp they used, but the steak was pretty good. If I had to choose between the two though, I wish I would've went with more birria tacos instead. We also got some micheladas to go, and they were very good but messy. The chamoy was drippin all over (RIP my white uniqlo airism tee). Overall, if you find yourself in Merced, this is a solid place to get authentic Mexican food! read more

Looked on yelp and it had pretty good reviews, and rightfully deserved. The restaurant is located right next to a gas station and parking may be a little difficult as the lot is quite small, but there is additional parking along the side of the gas station. I came here on a Saturday afternoon, wasn't too busy but seemed to get busier after we came in. We ordered 2 Asada Tacos, 2 Birria Tacos, and green sauce enchiladas. The 2 Asada Tacos weren't the best I've had but also weren't the worst. In terms of taste, I'd say they're average, bu the salsa verde included was spicy which I enjoyed. The Birria Tacos were great! The restaurant really fills the tacos with pork and also brings out consome to dip the tacos with. If I were to come again, I'd just skip the asada tacos and go straight for the Birria. The Enchiladas we got Asada as well so the meat quality wasn't the greatest but overall composition of the plate was good! Enchiladas were doused in green sauce and served along with rice and beans. One of the ladies who worked there was very polite and constantly checking up on us to see if we were okay and if we needed extra sauce and what not. Props to her! My friend had some trouble parking but other then that, the food were pretty typical compared to the food in San Jose, and the service was great!! Food is great and always on point. But the service and loyalty to customers is a problem. Everytime we ask for chips and salsa we have to pay for it. That's unacceptable. It should be included, especially when I'm spending over 40$ for two meals. Greed! They say only for sit down customers. That doesn't even make sense. They won't even give you salsa with your food.
