Went here on Saturday night for a romantic meal with the girlfriend.. I kinda walked in by chance after searching around town for a while to get the right place. But i am glad i went here. We arrived around 9 for dinner, yeah kinda late, but the place was buzzing, so we had to wait for our table. There are three floors for people to sit, I chose the basement it seemed more intimate. It wasn't cramped it was nicely laid out and can accommodate anything from 2 to 8 people comfortably. The staff were very friend, our chap was very cool, friendly and patient - I have a tendency to talk for ages, especially at the start of a meal. The house Pinot grigio is exactly what i needed, but they had a great selection of both red and whites, next time i will be tasting a red fo sho! The selection of food was great... i was spoiled for choice a little, I was stuck between, fish, duck, lasange, or one of there many pastas. I chose the Honey Roast Duck.... best choice ever, even the girlfriend said it was better than her meal, she got the prawn pasta - very filling, huge portion!The duck was a crispy juicy, and the chap was delish, i thought i would have gotten a bit more for €20 for the duck... bit more vege! Oh i should have started with starter, we got garlic bread avec cheese- yes to share!!! I wasn't really fond of it, the bread wasn't that nice, it was like eating a thin slice of a heavy marks and spencers cake... which i know is delish.. but it was just so heavily bombarded with garlic and pest! And i love garlic a lot! I should have chosen the Bruschetta For desert i go a half a table spoon scoop of Panna Cotta..not a decent desert amount it was gone in 3. The girlfriend got profiteroles, they had some kinda sour cream in them though!!! Over all the night was great over all.. the palce and the mains were amazing, service was very good. We had a great experience and would visit again if we are ever back in Dublin! We went here on a Friday night. We made a reservation and we're glad we did, it was pretty busy. However the service was still great and our food came out quickly. The wine list is large and the descriptions are very detailed. The staff is also ver knowledgable about the wine, so if you have any questions they are very helpful. We ended up loving the wine we chose! We started with the garlic bread which was great, but I saw another table order the bruschetta and it looked delicious as well! Both our main dishes (tortilla & another pasta dish my husband got with beef) were great as well, and just the right size. We ordered the Bailey's cheesecake and brownie for dessert which were also incredible! Price is reasonable. It was about 70 euros for an appetizer, two entrees, two desserts and two glasses of wine. Tip - if you tell them it's your birthday, you will get a free glass of Prosecco! read more

Gorgeous for couples! Downstairs there are tables set up in a small cave. The steak was to die for and obviously being a wine bar the wine was also delicious. This place wasn't too over priced either for Dublin! Would recommend here if you wanted a nice meal out in the evening! read more

Cute little place off a side street. Food was good although a little pricey for what you get. I had pasta carbonara and my husband had lamb chops. Well-prepared and tasty, good size portions. My friend works there so I will try not to bias this review. I have only eaten there once though and I found the experience very nice. That was last year and I ate chicken wings, fries and T steak. I had chocolate fondant for dessert as long as I can remember. The food was delicious and I still remember how full I was. Everything about the restaurant is nice, its interior design is quite flamboyant. The basement area is narrow but it has a nice feel about it. The cleanliness and professionalism is spot on. When you look at the restaurant from outside it doesn't do the inside justice at all. If you want to have good food (not just Italian) in Dublin this is the place to go. I had the lamb shank and it came out so tough and so incredibly dry!! It was honestly comparable to beef jerky. I notified our waitress of the issue and all she said was "sorry" and walked off. A short bit later a man, who I'm assuming was the manager, asked if I would like "more sauce". I was never offered another plate or to choose something else off the menu and was charged full price for the meal. Very disappointed in the quality of food and terrible customer service. read more

My husband and I came here after we got one of those deal rush coupons. The place was quite empty when we arrived, although we did come for an early dinner (6pm on a Saturday). I guess I was just a bit surprised because I figured with it being in Temple Bar, and it being a saturday, that they would have more people. We were at in the basement, which is decorated like an old wine cellar. Just a bit of warning, it is tight quarters down there, but that was no bother for us. Also, you will not get ANY cell reception down there either. As a starter we ordered the bruchetta and meat plate. Both were FANTASTIC! We gobbled them up quite quickly. For my main dish, I got the "La Caverna Garlic Chicken." I will admit, I LOVE garlic, so for me it was really tasty, but others may find the garlic a bit over powering. I'm not sure if it was by accident, but my chicken was served over garlic mashed potatoes, and I was given a side dish of cheesy garlic potatoes. All of it was tasty, but again, a LOT of garlic, and a TON of food. I should have just ordered this and no appetizer. My husband ordered the Rack of Lamb, medium rare. He was quite happy that the lamb came out cooked EXACTLY medium rare, because sometimes when we go out the food does not come out quite as rare as he requests. I did steal a bite of his when he wasn't looking, and it was SOOOO tender, juicy, and tasty. I'll admit, it gave me order envy. I'm for sure ordered the rack of lamb the next time we go. The manager came by and checked on us often, she kept saying "my friends"... How are we doing my friends? Are we all done my friends? It was actually quite cute and nice to know that they cared about how our meal was, even if the restaurant wasn't busy, and even though we did have a deal rush voucher. I feel some places pay less attention to you if you have a voucher and aren't paying full price. But the service here was GREAT! My wife & I went here based on the recommendation of our AirBnB host. The restaurant is small but looks larger due one wall having mirrors on it. It was pretty quiet even though it was very crowded. They play soft background music. We had a reasonably priced bottle of blended white wine. My wife had the tortellini in a white cream sauce. I had a few of these as the size of the plate was more than she could eat. The dish was very good. I had the meat lasagna. There was a lot of meat...I mean a whole lot of meat. So much so, that it seemed to be out of proportion with the other ingredients. Even so, it was good. We also ordered garlic bread, which was not toasted as much as I'd like. Could have been our fault as we ordered it when our meals were dropped off. The price for the meal was fairly reasonable. The wait staff was attentive without being obtrusive. read more

Awesome restaurant!!! Great food, incredible service and owner!!! Walked in from the street, met the owner outside of the restaurant told him it was my bday and he took amazing care of us. This was an interesting dining experience. I'll start by saying we had a desire for Italian food, after eating traditional Irish food for 4 straight meals. All of the other Italian restaurants in the area were booked solid. Surprisingly, La Caverna had a couple tables available...Actually, I found out later when I used the toilet in the basement, that the basement dining room and bar were completely empty...so not a full restaurant, which can be a red flag in a touristy area like this. My wife and I shared a Caesar Salad w/bacon and it was just ok...aside from the missing flavor of anchovies, something was missing. My wife had the margarita pizza, which should be mozzarella, tomato sauce and basil, but was just a cheese pizza with parsley...not traditional, but was ok. I ordered the Spaghetti Arrabiata which should be spicy...the pasta was advertised as fresh, and it was. The pasta was actually quite good. The sauce was just ok...again, something was missing, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. The dish was not spicy as advertised and it had a strange after taste...not unpleasant, just odd. As my wife and I were waling down the street after our meal, it hit me. The missing ingredient in all of our dishes was GARLIC....where was the garlic. The food was kind of bland, and garlic would have completely helped the flavor of each portion. All-in-all, the dining experience was ok. Not great, not bad. The service was very good and the decor was really quite "cute" Very different than we have experienced in Dublin... more of a modern feel situated in an old cobble stone interior. I went for dinner with some friends in Leeson St. and then I went to meet my OH with six of his family who were having dinner in La Caverna. I started having dinner with my friends at 7pm. They started at 8pm. I arrived at the restaurant planning to have dessert with them at 10:30. I'd had a started and main, walked from Leeson St. and arrived two and a half hours into their booking, which they had actually arrived early for. Plenty of time for their starters, mains, and for me to join them at dessert right? When I arrived at 10:30 they hadn't even been given their mains yet. It was very busy and they had a number of large tables (hen parties, a birthday party, etc) but that it no excuse for how slow the service was. I confirmed straight away that I was not ordering and might order dessert so that it wouldn't slow down the main courses but it was still about 11pm before they came out. Everyone at the table was ravenous. The food that came out was delicious looking and I tried some of my OH's venison and it was beautifully cooked, but considering how long it took, it should have been. The staff forgot one of the mains so one of the party had to wait an extra 20 minutes after everyone else. I think everyone's main problem was that the staff didn't offer apologies or reassurance that the food would be coming out any time soon until just before the main courses were served. Not that you would want to fill up on bread, but it wasn't even offered to curb hunger pangs. As an apology the group were offered vouchers off their NEXT visit which I think was pretty poor, because based on that meal there was no way any of us were coming back for a repeat visit. It took an age to get the bill also. All in all not impressed in the slightest. It is a pity as the OH said the food was good, but he also said he was so hungry at that point that a burger from McDonalds just down the road was starting to sound like a delicious option. I understand that things go wrong, people call in sick, it's busier than expected, etc. But this was a Saturday night! read more

Was looking for some good Italian food, saw the pictures of the cave-like interior and their extensive and accommodating menu, and decided to go for it. The atmosphere was very warm and friendly, but still classy. For an appetizer we got the home made bread with dips and olives. delicious! the bread was warm and perfectly baked, and the dips paired perfectly. For the mains, there was a large selection, including a full vegan menu with a great variety! We ordered the vegan schnitzel and also got the La Caverna Chicken. Both had great flavor and balance, and the presentation was beautiful. For dessert - the warm apple pie was soft and very tasty! Finally, the service! Amazing! the staff was so kind, friendly, attentive, and enjoyable! One member of staff kept repeating "life is beautiful" every time she came to our table, and she made the experience so enjoyable! I have been to La Caverna a number of times mostly for family occasions. We were here again at the weekend, dinner for seven people. The service is spot on and for such a small place they give you plenty of time to enjoy your meal and never pressure to leave. If your looking fore somewhere for a family doo this would be a good place, the food covers all the bases from sea food, pizza to steak. The wine list is getting a bit annoying because a lot of the wines listed are not available at the moment? Overall a good night out and a relaxing place to meet up. read more

My family and I ate at La Caverna a few weeks ago for my 40th Birthday. I live in the U.S. but am from Dublin and so I wanted somewhere special to celebrate my birthday with my family while I was home. La Caverna was the perfect choice! The cellar room is the perfect place for a private dinner or event. The food and service were fantastic and they have a great wine selection. However, the highlight for me and my family was the Manager, Monika. She was exceptional! From the moment I reached out to the restaurant via email, she was fantastic to work with. She is professional, organized, efficient, funny and an absolute lovely person to be around. She is the main reason we will return to La Caverna. She made my day very special.
