Guess this is more of a check-in, as I ended up here again yesterday because it is so close to my dog's groomer and I was hungry. Common theme for me. Ambiance was festive as always and the restaurant seemed very clean. Service was excellent. The food is decent with huge portions. Prices are typical and a good value due to the generous portions. Here's what continues to bother me: All of their beans contain lard -which I choose not to eat - and yet the "Vegetarian" portion of the menu lists various entrees with the same beans that contain lard. It would be nice to offer a lard-free option of black beans, as other Mexican restaurants do. I mention this to my server each time. I realize it's insanity to come back here expecting a different result, but it would make me so happy to enjoy lard-free beans with my burrito! End of rant. This place was busy mid-afternoon on a Friday, so apparently most people are perfectly happy with the status quo. read more

Cute place, looks authentic. Seated immediately, waitress attentive. Music a bit loud for 11:30 AM. The salsa, hmmm, this has to be the runniest salsa I've had. Supported you through the roundabout but when you walk in and sit at the bar and have multiple people walk by you at the bar and others that are waitresses, have to ask for a menu and still no one offers to get you a drink or chips after 15 minutes you leave like I did. In an unexpected strip-mall location, with a view of nothingness from the patio, La Chalupa serves up familiar (this is owned by El Camino) and quite delicious "Mexican" with a side of great people watching. It can get pretty packed on nights you'd normally assume things would be quiet... But when you're looking for a Margarita on a Monday, and you live in the Point, this is a wonderful option. Service can be a little stressed and slow but everyone is friendly and the food comes out quick. Highly recommended if you're in Point Place and not in the mood for fried fish. read more

Hands down one of the absolute best Mexican restaurants I have ever had the pleasure of dining at - burritos are huge and SO flavorful! I ate half of it and was stuffed - it reheated well, too! I ate the other half for dinner the next day. Their guac is top notch - fresh and flavorful. Their sweet tea tastes like it's brewed in house, which I loved. My daughter had a margarita, and she said it was really good. The food was great. The service was really great too - very attentive staff; not just at our table, but I could see other servers hopping and taking care of people. Nobody standing around surfing on their phones, which was refreshing. Also, we started out sitting on the patio outside, which is nice. But, we were seated next to a family with two small children who were less than well behaved, lots of loud whining and crying. Then, a lady lit up a cigarette near us, and that was my limit. I asked the hostess if we could move inside, and it was no problem - she was so friendly about it and even walked over to grab our chips & salsa to move it to our new table inside. All in all, we will definitely be back when we're in the Toledo area. read more

This is are go to Mexican restaurant. Burritos, taco and fajitas are really good. $1.50 tacos on Tuesdays. Margaritas are strong and tasty. Service can be slow at times. They could use more staff. Outdoor patio is nice during the summer. Decorations are very nice. It's always clean. I will say to stay away from the fajita salad bowl and a menu item called special dinner. Some of the staff must not speak English!? They tend to ignore you. The food is at the lower end of tex/mex. If you can choose elsewhere. Been here a few times - ordered the same thing and every time its coming to the table in a different style. Not sure what they are doing in the back. Find the local food taco truck instead. We dine here at least once, sometimes twice a week when we're in town. The food is delicious, and the prices are excellent for what you get. The fajitas are a must-try! They also offer daily drink and food specials. My husband and I have sampled many items on the menu and have never been disappointed. The margaritas and the staff are all top-notch. We travel a lot, and this is one of our favorite places nationwide. It's tucked away in an older-style strip mall, but don't let that fool you - go in, and you won't regret it. read more

We moved here from California so you cant compare. The food is americanized, but its convenient to where I live. Out of the majority of Mexican restaurants in the area they are one of the best. Update on this review Be careful look at your credit card statement. I know that some restaurants will charge more then it will be adjusted due to the tip. They charged us more than tip, and it was never adjusted then when we called the manager said this isnt the first time this has happened. Stopped here for dinner after hearing about it from friends. Saturday night so the place was packed. We waited about 10 mins for a table. We were immediately given chips and salsa. Ask for the hot - it's HOT! Drink order was quick. Basic margaritas are about $5 but they have daily happy hours. Negro Modela and Pacifica on tap. We ordered food and it was almost unbelievable how fast it came out. I joked that they read our mind and had it made up already. Service was fast, very friendly. Food was awesome. I ordered the Special Dinner ($13.75) and two huge full plates came out (I thought it was an error). Everything was awesome. Margaritas were great. I'll definitely be back. read more

We had a reservation and showed up with a large party but still had to wait 45 minutes for a table. Hostess never said one thing to us the whole time. Let me preface and say that my family is Mexican. We had been driving home from Michigan to Cincinnati when we decided to stop for lunch for Mexican food, my mom and cousin specifically looking for tacos. From the very beginning the hostess/waitress had a horrible attitude. I asked a few questions due to dietary restrictions and my cousin asked for a spoon for the salsas. The waitress seemed visibly annoyed. We were hoping for the food at least to be good. My mom's fish taco was the one good thing we were served. Her asada taco was burned and her al pastor taco had a pungent, rancid smell. My fajitas weren't horrible. The rice was over cooked and the guacamole browning. Even then we tried to make the best of it but then my cousin found a hair in her carnitas tacos. We all immediately lost our appetite. Instead of making the moment right, the waitress looked even more annoyed. My mom had had enough and we decided to leave. We paid full price. She didn't offer to comp the inedible tacos my cousin had nor even apologized for the incident at ANY point. I would strongly suggest you do not patronize this restaurant. I went out of my way to try this restaurant for the first time. I placed a to-go order, and arrived home to find that my order was incomplete. Once I found this out I called the restaurant to try to find a resolution to my inconvenience. I was not at all impressed with La Chalupa. Our service was terrible (it was not busy) and the food was just as bad. I ordered steak fajitas and was served chewy meat with no seasoning and mushy vegetables. What was worse than that is that I was also served canned guacamole! Most vile thing I have ever eaten! One word, disgusting! I ordered the special plate and everything tasted exactly the same. I couldn't tell if I was eating a tamale or enchilada. I have never ordered a chile relleno before and probably would not like it anywhere, but it was a giant chile pepper wrapped in something that was fried in grease, which was one the same plate as the tostado which then absorbed the grease and was just a big glob of greasy mess....the rice had no flavor.
