I stopped into La Chamba for a quick snack and ended up enjoying the food. It's a little on the pricey side- $13.79 for two tacos with no chips or drink - but the quality felt a notch above your typical spot. I got a shrimp taco and a carne asada taco. The carne asada was tender and not fatty, just a bit small. The shrimp taco was my favorite - great flavor, good texture, and the cabbage on the corn tortilla added a nice texture. You order at the counter and they call your name when it's ready. The woman at the register was friendly enough, but like a lot of places now, they flip the screen and stare while you choose a tip. I hate that pressure - especially when there's no table service. They do have a salsa bar, which was a nice bonus, but I wish there was a self-serve water option. There is outside seating as well. I'd go back and stick to the shrimp or will try the fish tacos when I have more time and $$$ read more

I ordered from this place pork taco and steak quesadilla the pork taco had very little flavor. It was served on a soft cold tortilla. Mini size wasn't even heated up. the steak quesadilla I ordered as soon as I got it it fell all apart just grabbing it with my hand all the meat and the tomato fell out. It was very difficult to eat that quesadilla. The meat quality was OK. Not the best. Definitely wouldn't say this is authentic type of Mexican food. I did not feel like authentic Mexican food. Steak quesadillas would fall apart like that. Service and customer service is OK for the tacos in quesadilla is looking around 15 to 20 bucks. It's not really a cheap taco place. It's not something I will come back to. I gave him a few chances and this place is just not doing it for me there's a lot of better authentic Mexican restaurants in the area. read more

Driving home with La Chamba dinner for 5 tonight it occurred to me that this place has captured every penny of my household take out budget that once went to a national chain! This is our neighborhood go to for awesome Mexican food! There are several very good options in the "tri-town" area where La Chamba is located. La Chamba is solid! When the online order menu gives you the option of adding an ingredient to your burrito, you expect that ingredient to be ADDED TO YOUR BURRITO. But this is not the case if you click ADD JALAPENOS to your burrito order. When our burrito that was ordered with jalapenos was unwrapped (at home, as it was a takeout order) and there were no jalapenos, I phoned in with this information and was advised that "those are on the salsa bar." What a bunch of f^cking b^//sh1t. Believe in La Chamba at your peril. I don't post negative reviews lightly. I've gotten MULTIPLE orders from La Chamba that were messed up and never posted a review, negative or otherwise. Had the carne asada burrito for $13.71 including tax. Anna was friendly and was kind enough the give me cold water in a nice decanter with the plastic cup . The food was good .. not salty..You can always add more salt or more salsa which was provided for you on the back of the store. Although the cups for the salsa were small and they gave you only a few chipsl, you can get more salsa.There's 3 difference salsas, pickled carrots, jalapeno peppers, and pickled radishes. I got confused when I came in here, they bought new menus and that was okay but they still had their old menu on the wall they should take that down so they don't confused the pricing of menu. Always wanting to support a new local business, hubby and I came here on a rainy Saturday night. There were a few folks waiting for take out but otherwise empty. We looked at the menu taped on the counter and hanging on butcher paper on the wall and decided on taco salads. I got the carnitas and hubby got pollo. And, added a birria taco because I've never had one. The taco meat was very tender but not as juicy or messy as other places and no dipping sauce. I'd eat this again. The salads have all fresh veggies (romaine, cherry tomatoes), black beans, cotija cheese, roasted kernels of corn and a nice scoop of guac. My salad had a fair amount of meat but not hubby's. He had to dig around because he thought they forgot. The carnitas were fine. They were missing the burnt bits synonymous with the meat being fried. The shell wasn't anything to write home about. So, the meal was okay. Everyone talks about the fried fish tacos which we may need to try. The decor has been refreshed which is nice. Parking is very easy I do wish the business well. Please be more generous with the portions. read more

5 Stars - Highly Recommend for Catering!. I recently ordered catered food for pick-up for a birthday party from this taqueria and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. The owner was incredibly helpful in guiding me through how much food to order for our event, and he was spot-on -- we had just the right amount with only some chips left over - the guacamole was bomb and now I know next time to order double! We went with chicken and steak tacos, rice and beans, salsa, and guacamole. Everything was delicious, but the steak tacos really stood out -- the meat was fresh, tender, perfectly seasoned, and not fatty like you sometimes get at a taqueria. Multiple guests at the party complimented the food, and it was a definite hit! Ordering and pickup were both super easy. Rocio, the cashier who helped us at pick-up, was extremely friendly and made sure our entire order was complete and ready to go. If you're planning a party or event, I highly recommend this place for catering (as long as you have someone to pick it up). I have never paid almost $25 for a single taco with rice/beans and a drink. I asked if they have like a taco plate and the lady at the register said that you can get a taco and the side orders... She could have recommended the bowls but she knows what shes doing, she charged me for large sizes I didn't know they have Small since previously she told me theres no small sizes. The menu says otherwise but I didn't see that until afterwards. She also charged me for chips, which I saw her given it to other customers for free when they dine in. Really nice find. The food was solid with a lot of beef. I just asked for less rice, and I think they added more of everything else. Great flavor, great texture and the salsas are homemade and excellent. They have a salsa bar of different salsas and condiments. The service was really good and the people are very nice. Tried this place 4 times already. The crispy tacos didn't have enough flavor for my first visit. The meat was cold...The chips were bitter and the salsa had too much what seemed like vinegar (tried two of them). The second time I tried a different meat. It was better. The salsa was still not good. All the times were to go orders. Not a far walk across my job... Between the times of 2:30-3. The last times the meat was warmer. Gave up on the salsa. Chips were better and meat had more flavor. TODAY was the best day. Food overall borders between okay and a little better than okay. Will keep on coming unless it goes very down hill... On my lunch break,, I could have gone to Taco Bell but I saw this NEW taqueria!! 30 minutes for lunch. Waitress greeted me and I placed my order for 2 Carnitas tacos - typical "street tacos" and a drink. $12.00 Crossed my mind - a bit expensive for two a light lunch. Tacos arrived relatively Quick. Fresh chopped onions and a bit of cilantro, light amount of carnitas,, Flavor was light,, maybe could have been more tasty if they fried the carnitas a bit.. Definitely Fresh,, but lacking in flavor and quantity @ $4.00 per taco. We have been getting tacos from this place - especially the fish tacos - pretty much since they opened, so it's been quite a few times now. The tacos are fantastic! A really solid Mexican place. All tacos we tried were good though our favorites are the fish tacos and the carnitas. Highly recommend. It took me some time to write a review because it took them some time to get their process in order, and things just took forever. I am glad to report that it seems like they finally got it together, and food is ready on time when we order a pick up, or is just ready pretty fast when we order when we get there. ** Soft Opening** Read about this new spot on our community group on FB. Moraga has been in dire need of a taqueria for years so we decided that Taco Tuesday would be a perfect time to give it a try. Friendly greeting once we walked in. Easy ordering at the counter. We got the Super Nachos, a carne asada burrito, and of course, tacos. Food was tasty. While the person at the counter was very friendly, the person bringing the food out was pretty gruff: we asked to switch our refried beans to whole beans, and they were less than enthusiastic in making the switch. Hopefully it was just a one time thing. My only other wish: a self-serve chip and salsa bar would be make this a for sure go-to! I'd give this place 3.5 stars for now. read more

Food is good to excellent depending on the dish (excellent fish tacos specifically). The decor has been updated, made to feel clean and campy taco shop fun. Beers are cold, wine is light, and the menu tweaks that keep rolling out make this a very worthy dinner stop. I keep comparing it to the restaurant that was there before and walking away impressed. I am glad another option has come to Moraga. I am sure La Chamba will be around for a while. The restaurant seemed clean and was cozy. For lunch I tried both the soft shell and the hard shell tacos. This is a basic staple at a Mexican restaurant so it better be good right? Well I am glad to say the tacos were very good. Fresh, fresh. fresh ingredients. Why then the 3 star rating you ask? Well it lies in the sauces! What a taco expects are some sauces that enhance the flavor of the taco or else even a fresh taco will be bland. I am sorry to say that what they call their "salsa bar" was a small assortment of bland sauces that did not enhance the meal in any way. No heat and no flavor. This place will be a home run if they find a sauce or salsa that actually enhances the meal. I will be back in a few months in hopes of a change. read more

Good clean non fussy taqueria. At a certain point in life I swore off visiting any taqueria other than Sinaloa in East Oakland. I live in Lafayette now, and I never thought I'd be able to find good Mexican food locally. Been burned to many times with dry a** burritos overfilled with rice and too salty meats. Prices are reasonable, the pollo asado burrito I just ate was moist, filling with the perfect ratio of beans to rice. The chips are crisp and warm, not at all greasy and the salsas are fresh. We need a good Mexican food restaurant in Moraga- La Chamba just doesn't cut it. I visited here again to try their nachos and was incredibly disappointed. It was left on the counter for me instead of being served, so I got up and had to get it myself. It looked good but unfortunately the meat in it was cold and the nachos were very bland. I'm beginning to think that restaurant space is cursed. Anything that is put in there just royally sucks. The woman working the counter was nice but a bit preoccupied with her phone. read more

Love La Chamba!! Our family goes weekly and recently had them cater our son's second birthday. Food: delicious, plentiful, flavorful, fresh ingredients. Our family favorites are asada California burritos, al pastor anything, and their fish tacos are LEGIT. Service: Friendly, quick. For our son's party, we had about 25 adults and 12 or so kids. Ben, the owner, helped us decide how much and what food to order (various meat and fixin's for tacos, rice, beans, chips, guacamole, and pico de gallo). We placed our order about 5 days before the party, and picked it up right when they opened at 11. So easy. The adult guests raved about the food, the kids (aged 2-7) loved their meals, and we have just the right amount of leftovers for a delicious day after. See you next week, La Chamba! read more
