First time trying this place as its relatively new in San Marcos. We ordered a wide array of food. Starting with a chorizo and cheese papusas. Very flavorful and lots of filling. Husband had a mixed platter of meats. The chicken was well seasoned, the chorizo was tasty, but the steak ( flap steak) was very chewy as expected based on the cut. But the seasoning was good. I had two small meat skewers that came with salad, rice and the creamiest, tastiest refried beans I've ever had. There also was some plantain chips and Honduran tortillas. There was two sauces ( one very hot) and a delicious cilantro dressing. We got some guava empanadas but will save that for another day. Definetly would like to try this place again! PROS: - Staff were friendly - Seated quickly -Food was good (we ordered the pollo frito y carne asada) -chicken was crunchy and steak was juicy, so pretty good Now for the cons CONS: - Extremely long wait time for our order, we got there 6:00 PM. Then, we ordered around 6:07, we didnt get our order till past 7... -Poor service, the staff rarely came back to our table to help us pay or to give us updates on our food. If we weren't so hungry, we would have left and ate somewhere else (the restaurant was empty when we came in too) - A little PRICEY, be prepared to drop a pretty penny for your meal. No time to read: Save your money--too expensive for what you get. ​I visited La Champa Latin Grill on a Saturday around 2:30 PM. While the establishment has a decent setup--plenty of seating (about 22 tables for four and 6 larger booths), a full bar, and three large TVs--the experience simply didn't justify the price tag. For three people, ordering one combination platter, an asada appetizer, and three drinks, the total came to $100.00. ​The Service & Atmosphere ​The service started strong. We were greeted and seated immediately (only 3 tables were occupied). Drinks arrived within 2 minutes, and the complimentary chips with salsa and cotija cheese arrived within 5 minutes. However, things slowed down significantly from there. Our main courses didn't arrive until 30 minutes after the appetizers. The waitress mentioned they were short a cook, which is understandable, but it definitely impacted the flow of the meal. ​One major vibe killer: the lighting. The restaurant was so dark I could barely see what I was eating. ​The Food ​While the portions were a good size, the flavor was a mediocre 5/10 overall. ​Asada Appetizer ($26): This was the dish served with cucumbers. For $26, the quality of the meat was disappointing--it wasn't a premium cut and lacked the "wow" factor of something like a Mexican molcajete. Plus, the cucumbers served with it were old and soft. ​Asado con Tajadas: The tajadas (fried green bananas) were good and the meat was seasoned well, but the quality control was poor. I had to spit out wads of fat three different times. Most concerningly, my wife found a toothpick hidden inside the cabbage and sauce. This is a major safety hazard. ​Combination Platter: The pupusas were smaller than what you'd find at other local spots. The loroco pupusa was missing cheese, and the revuelta lacked flavor. The tacos included in the platter were very bland. ​Verdict ​Between the high prices, the average flavors, and finding a toothpick in our food, I can't recommend this spot. There are much better Latin grills in the area where your $100 will go a lot further. read more

Always passed by this place and never stopped, but I'm glad I did this time. I don't know what it is that I got, but it is amazing little crispy pockets of goodness. The owner, the gentleman agreed to me was more than courteous very friendly great vibe of this restaurant wondering why there was nobody in there obviously it was Sunday, but I hope this place is packed during the week cause their food is off the charts.!!! Delicious hole in the wall Honduran restaurant in San Marcos. We came here specifically for the pupusas and we were not disappointed. We had the jalepeno and cheese, zucchini and cheese, and pork, bean and cheese. The cheese (quesillo) was melt and delicious. I easily could have just eaten cheese pupusas but was happy to try several. They are made to order and therefore take time - so expect to wait. read more

Charming family restaurant. Something different from the chain or Mexican restaurants that is all over the area. I wanted to give them a try because my wife and I want papusas and didn't want to drive to Escondido, and glad we stopped by. She had their chicharron con queso, and liked it so much we got some to go. Was full of meat and not overly cheesy. I had the Pollo fritos with tajadas. I'm a gringo and never had something similar to it. The chicken was crispy, juicy, and flavorful, and came in big portions. It does take some time since they don't cook until you order. Only slight star down because the establishment looks like it's still being fixed up, but that doesn't take away from the experience. We had so much fun dining here. There was music and celebration, amazing service, and excellent food. I had baleadas, pupusas, and flautas that were all delicious and obviously hand-made fresh. The staff were so welcoming and friendly and they were also taking care of a large party who had gathered for a birthday celebration - so they had their hands full and still managed to make our little table feel just as important (we were there for my friend's birthday as well and they embarrassed him just enough lol) as the big table. We drove about 40 mns to try it since it had good reviews on Google, I went for the beef soup but they were out. I thought I try the Carne Asada, the meat was overcooked and tasted old and hard. We arrived early and had done a search for a quiet restaurant, which exactly what we found. The manager helped us make the choice of their combo plate and mention to us that everything was handmade and indeed it was. Food was fabulous and very fresh and service was much better than what you see in most restaurants. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone. Abusive bar tender, just asked a question to the waitress and he jumped to tell me to wait or leave, I was there for less than a minute an he already was telling me that there was more people in front of me that if I dint want to wait the doors was there and pointed at it. Then he told me that he can refuse the service if he wanted to ( which i know they can) but I just ask the waitress if I could ask her to for a drink or if I had to wait for him. And he jumped kn to conclusions. Awfully service, is a shame that they represent Honduras with their food but with this awful, very disrespectful and abusive way to answer and kicked me out for absolutely no reason. read more

I had never been here, stopped by for a quick drink before my final destination of the night. As soon as I walked in I felt welcomed, we were sat right down. Our server took our order which I had a double, didn't taste the alcohol to which they brought back the bottle & poured another double in my glass!!!
