Wow, I think I just ate the most amazing Cali Burrito I've ever had. The carne asada was cooked to perfection and had amazing flavor. Excellent balance of ingredients and still maintained heat even with the SC, guac, and pico which sadly many other places it ends up cold. Took a little more time than most taco shops but I'm totally convinced it's because it was crafted with complete care. Hot sauce here was pretty good too! read more

In all honesty, some of the best taco shops are the hole-in-the-wall spots and Rito's happens to be one of them. Can't say much in terms of the whole menu but the two times I've had California burritos from here, they were amazing. Like most spots like this, you have to look past the worn down decor and focus on the food. They have an amazing green salsa (they offer two different green salsas so ask for both). We ordered our food to go at the restaurant. The owner, Nacho, was extremely nice and fun to talk to. He introduced himself and asked our names. He said he has been the owner for 30 years. We got rolled tacos, beef taco platter and a chimichanga plate. The food had extremely generous portions of meat which were perfectly seasoned and yummy! Sample your salsas carefully as certain ones were extremely hot! The carrots and radishes were a nice added touch and were not hot. This will be our new go to place for Mexican food! read more

Not a whole lot to report, but I just enjoyed one of the best carne asada burritos I have had in quite a while. The meat was cooked freshly (I could hear it on the grill) so the burrito was nice and hot, the way they should be, instead of what is so often the case where the meat is pre-cooked and pulled out of a pot and only about lukewarm, so would the addition of chilled guacamole and pico de gallo it's not as satisfying as it could be. Not here, I had to cut the burrito in half and let it cool off for a moment so that was terrific. But let that be a warning to those who are looking to find something to complain about. And they certainly are out there. Judging from the one-star review, it looks like Heather is the new Karen. Please explain to me how a large portion deserves a complaint from anyone. It always bothers me when restaurants make it so difficult to find a picture of their menu before you come to their restaurant. You should be able to know what things cost before you show up. Pretty much all of the Mexican restaurants in this area have very basic reviews. Since this one had a better review, we chose it. The portion sizes are way overboard- so much food. Like too much food! and it is unhealthy type of greasy food. No fresh salsa (at least not offered to us) and the burritos don't come with any tortilla chips. It was $12.25 for a "California burrito" that had French fries, super greasy seasoned chicken, guacamole, and I don't know what else. I tend to always try to eat healthier, so something this unhealthy just didn't appeal to me.. I don't want to be mean to or harm the business, I am just saying that $30 for two people to eat (and only 1 over-priced drink) was too much for food of this quality. It's the kind that makes your chest hurt once you're done eating. And the toilet bowl will bear a grudge later. read more

This place was exceptional! We order the pollo torta and it was deliciously seasoned chicken with beans, onion, tomato, and guacamole. This was THE BEST SANDWICH I HAVE EVER HAD. I had this today and I must say it was pretty good. They cooked the taco shells well, so I didn't have to worry about the tortillas being soggy. I enjoyed all of the hot sauce, the white one was very hot for everyone who likes spice, so beware! Overall, I think it was really good. I wish they would've added more limes. It wasn't enough for the amount of tacos that I had. I also got a Horchata which I would not recommend. It had a very weird taste to it and I'm not sure if it was just a one time thing, but it was kind of tangy and tart so I wasn't a fan. read more

My favorite Mexican food restaurant in San Diego County. My go-to order is Adobada mini tacos and the fish tacos. If they have the Sandia Agua Fresca that's really good too. The employees and chef are always super friendly. read more

Such friendly people. The cook had an amazing memory, remembering the bajillion items I ordered for takeout. Great sense of humor too. Very humble woman at the counter was apologetic about her lack of English but we communicated just fine. No one should ever have to apologize for that! She was very sweet and went over our order with us before. They have a screen at checkout where you can visually follow along as she reads out each item. It was incredibly helpful for us both. They gave us two complimentary drinks and had three to pick from. The hibiscus was really really good! Did I mention that the portions were huge? Rito's is a proper hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant. It's straightforward and unassuming. I generally judge a local Mexican restaurant by how many white people are inside. If it's mostly white people, turn around and walk away. There are a few places in downtown Carlsbad that fit this description, but I digress. Rito's on the other hand seems as if most people don't know it exists. It has a very definite, neighborhood-restaurant vibe. But, all that aside, the whole reason you go is for the food. If you picture in your head what Mexican food should taste like, this is it. There's nothing flashy or extraordinary. Just, the basics done right. Excluding food trucks, I think Rito's is the best Mexican food San Marcos. Very glad I stumbled across it. read more
