    PATTY MELT
    Linda R.

First time here. You can order at the counter or order at the many kiosks touchscreens. The prices are really reasonable with exception of the drinks. $3 for a can of soda is a bit steep when sandwiches are on average around $10. The Patty melt was a little bland for me. The meat didn't taste like it was seasoned. The sauce, onions, cheese, and bread were tasty. My husband had the steak and cheese. Much more flavorful than the patty melt. It resembles a Philly cheesesteak but grilled cheese style. It has fresh sliced jalapeños so be careful if you don't expect any spice. The fries and side of ranch were good as well. Service was friendly and there are plenty of condiments out so you don't have to stay in line again to ask for them. I would stick with water on my next visit and try other items on the menu.

I just tried Melt in San Marcos this past weekend, which recently opened in the old Five Guys location. It's in the busy Sprouts shopping center with a big parking lot, so parking was easy. The restaurant is on the smaller side with indoor and outdoor seating, cute signage, an industrial vibe, and huge windows. It was a little too warm inside during our visit, though. We tried the original burger they're known for, and it was really good! Definitely "melt-y" with that soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture. We both enjoyed it, although we thought it could have used a little more flavor. Adding the pickle they provide on the side made a huge difference and really brought the flavor up. The garlic parmesan fries were loaded with fresh garlic. It was almost a little burn-y, but in the best way . Just be prepared for some serious garlic breath! They were so good dipped in the ranch. I also tried the grilled chicken Caesar salad, and I loved the unique twist of using pieces of grilled cheese sandwich as the croutons. Such a fun idea! The chicken could have used more seasoning, though, and I found the Caesar dressing much more vinegary than creamy. It wasn't really like the traditional Caesar dressing I'm used to. Everything came out hot and quickly, and overall we really enjoyed trying Melt. There are definitely more things on the menu I'd like to try, so I'll be back!

    Spicy chicken sandwich. Very spicy.

Don't get me wrong, the melts concept and food are great but this location is lacking. This location used to be a five guys and when it closed it was very surprising to see how quickly the melt moved in. I kinda suspect that the five guys owner just bought the Melt franchise and switched out under the same lease. Burgers are great here and they large portions of tasty fries too. Let's talk about the "ambiance". In the summer it's just too hot inside. The large glass windows and the kitchen basically being next to the small dining area it's uncomfortable. Secondly, its very noisy inside with the kitchen and fans making a serious ruckus. Those items are design flaws of the location itself, but the issue of cleanliness needs to be improved. The dining room was diry and hadn't been inspected for hours. Lots of trash on the floor and around the beverage station. - I will definitely go back to a melt location because of the food, but probably not the San Marcos location.

CHEDDAR BACON RANCH FRIES were soggy but delicious. They aren't beautiful but we ate them all.

Five Guys used to be in this location. I was a fan but I found their food somewhat inconsistent. Enter The Melt. Let's start with the good. The burgers are very nice. The patties are thick and tasty. They used real jalopenos, and not those gross pickled things, on my Spicy Mission Meltburger. The bacon cheese fries were goopy but delicious, all the same. If you like mac 'n cheese, the Garlic Chicken Bacon Melt is very good and you won't be bothered by vampires for months afterward. It is very garlicky. Service was very friendly. The sodas at the self-serve soda machine were delicious. Now, let's move to what needs to be improved. They have ordering kiosks up front, although they are not mandatory for ordering. I hate the things normally but appreciate the way you can (usually) easily customize your order. We spent some time at a kiosk and tried to put in an order for three people but, at the checkout, the machine fritzed and advised us to order at the counter (and get a free soda for our wasted time). Ok, then. We then ordered to-go at the counter, which was a little clumsier because the restaurant was a little noisy and the customization of our orders wasn't as easy as at the kiosk. First, we noticed that the bacon we added to one burger was missing from the receipt. We advised the counter fellow and they corrected the issue. Next, we waited, and waited, an waited, and then realized the pager we were given was not working. Come on, now. Did I do something wrong or did they just not like my face? Finally, when we got home, one of our burgers, other than for the cheese, was as plain as a naked baby. The lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, which were all listed on the receipt, were missing. The burger was still delicious but come on. If you are going to use kiosks, make them functional. If they are not functional, let's get the order at the counter correct. And let's get those pagers working, if I have to hold one of them. I have no complaints whatsoever about the food quality, which was very nice. The place is on the pricier side but most people will pay for quality. However, there are some real growing pains here that have clearly not been worked out yet. That is an issue.

    Original Double!

Tried out The Melt and it was a great burger. I didn't realize how huge the double was going to be. It comes real juicy with a great bun. I got plain pickles but it comes with jalepeno/pickle mix that I'm sure a lot of people would love. The people working here were great too. Highly recommend it. I couldn't even finish my double....

We met up with some friends for a late dinner. It is located in a shopping center with lots of parking, open late and close to our hotel. Hubby and I split the melt burger added lettuce tomato and onions with fries and I requested it be cut in half. After you place order, they give you cups for drinks and a buzzer. We got a table and waited which was not long. I ate my half and a bit of fries. It was ok, a bit messy kept falling apart. The food was just ok and edible for me personally. It did the job to satisfy my hunger.

Glad this location opened in North County. I frequent the Del Mar Location as my son is a fan of their grilled cheese. This location is clean and comfy. Service is excellent and their food is fresh. Having a picky eater as a son is difficult and The Melt makes meals easy for my family. With their great reward system, I don't hesitate to frequent their locations. Be back soon.

Don't Go! Unless you like delicious food FOOD: Spicy mission meltburger was hot, juicy, great flavor, just like I was hoping it would be, it did not disappoint. I ordered my husband a triple spicy burger and he loved it. SERVICE: There was a line but it goes pretty quick AMBIANCE: modern, casual and clean

We've been here 2x now since they opened. We are fans. The access is easy, never any lines, and it's consistently taste good. The only inconsistent thing about this place is that since being here 2x they tend to forget an item. Our first time was during grand opening week. You order through the tablet upon entering or at the front if you want human interaction. They have reward points to earn. I got their original burger, as is, sweet potato fries. They forgot the sweet potato fries. Luckily we decided to eat there! If not I would have driven home and saw the missing fries. Then the second time, ordered the same burger but added some lettuce, tomatoes and jalapeños. It made it so delicious! However, they forgot the pickle. Luckily Michael was going around checking on diners, and we asked him and he brought the pickle. The burgers are good. The service is good. The workers really try to take care of you. Only thing is to QC your order before leaving. We'll be back!

The hubby and I stopped by on our way out to Escondido from Oceanside. Everything we got was yummy (he got the BBQ Bacon burger and a cookies and cream milk shake, I got a Three Cheese Classic sandwich and we shared the Garlic Parmesan fries). The self-service ordering stations were quick and easy to use (we even were able to add a coupon code for the free milkshake). The food was fresh and fast. We might not drive out here regularly, but if we're in the neighborhood we'd definitely come by again.

The Melt is a great spot when you're looking for comfort food with plenty of options for different dietary preferences. I surprised to see vegetarian choices like the Three Cheese Classic, grilled cheese melts, tomato soup, mac 'n' cheese, salads, and even Impossible Burger options for those looking for a meat-free meal. They also offer fries, sweet potato fries, and salads as sides, making it easy for everyone in a group to find something they'll enjoy. Trust me. The food was fresh, flavorful, and served quickly. You can order either at the counter or from the self-service screens, which makes the process quick and convenient. The burgers are high quality and flavorful, and I really like how customizable everything is, you can pretty much create your own meal exactly how you want it. The food was fresh, the service was good, and the restaurant was clean. The sesting area is limited and the tables are pretty close together I look forward to returning to try something new and order one of their shakes!

The cheeseburger was super duper delicious. Very juicy and quality beef I usually like my meet a little rare and this was as close to rare as I have had in quite awhile...So, I was a happy girl Order at the counter. They give you a buzzard & you grab your food when it's done. Dining room inside & patio outside. Pet friendly. The milkshakes looked mighty tasty Left very full!

Swiss 'n' Shroom MeltBurger - Served protein style. No bun made it a bit greasy. Still not too bad.

I've eaten at The Melt down in Carmel Valley and loved it. I'm not sure why I didn't write a review for it at the time, but I have been saved by this new Melt being opened down the street from me in San Marcos. And it is just as good as I remember. Came here with the extended family to share in the joy of a good meal, giving us a group of seven sitting outside, sharing our thoughts and bites. I had the BBQ Bacon Meltburger. It had the right amount of juice without being dripping with grease. The salty and sweet flavors mixed well without one overpowering the other. And the ingredients all held up without anything devolving into a mess. An altogether fantastic burger. My son had the same, eating his whole burger with an appreciative, 13-year old nod and the statement that he could readily eat another. My wife opted for the Swiss and Shroom, having it as a lettuce wrap. Without the bun to absorb excess juice, she found it a bit greasy. But, she still very much liked the flavors. Plus, the pickles were actually full and crisp; a far cry better than the ones we experienced over at Black Tap in Anaheim. And our daughter had a tub of their Mac 'N' Cheese, which seemed to be baked to order in its own little aluminum tub. The finished product was very creamy, had a nice chew to the top crust, and was very tasty. My finicky seven year old, who usually sticks with Kraft or a very select range of outside brands, ate the bulk of it with a bit of praise for her dinner. An impressive feat. Also on the table were some Bacon Cheddar Ranch Fries. Sloppy, but still very tasty. And a good batch of Sweet Potato Fries. All in all, a pretty good dinner for the family. I think our only qualm was the cost. A typical 'cheap' night out for burgers will run us anywhere from $25-$35 for 4-5 people. This place more than doubles that cost, putting it out of the range of a typical night out. Still, it's much better than the Five Guys that used to haunt this spot. And the price tag is still better than many other places we've tried in recent months. As good as our initial attempt here was, I'm sure we'll be back again in the future.
