We wanted to try something different for a day trip and found this place through a SM feed. We were not disappointed. When we parked and could smell the food we knew it would be good. The decor is spot on and th eplace is very clean and inviting. The lunch menu has excellent prices and big portions. Beef Fajitas was great with homemade tortillas and the meat was very tender Beef Enchildada dinner was a winner too. The rice was so good, not hard but almost like a pilaf. Let's talk about the warm salsa and the guacamole "green" sauce.... it was spot on. The wait staff was kind and attentive. I like decorated walls and there was plenty to look at. If you are passing through take a stop or make it a planned destination, you won't be disappointed. Just FYI, it is not very big so plan accordingly. What an awesome local restaurant for Rusk! La Charra is tucked away behind the town square in its own little spot. For a small town restaurant, La Charra really hits the point. The inside is cozy and welcoming, and were greeted with chips and salsa with smiling wait staff. We got the mixed quesadilla to split. Despite it being a lunch entree, it was enough for my wife and I. Also it was under $10. Really can't find that these days in big cities. La Charra may yet become my go to tex-mex spot for food whenever I'm in Rusk. Give them a visit for your mom and pop local. read more

Service was good and prompt. Food was authentic, but too salty for my taste. Salsa for chips was a tad mild. Jasmine rice. Home made tasting refried beans and charro beans were good (but salty). I had the Molcajete mix, tasty and plenty left to take home. Loved the Nopales! I went on a friday night and the place was packed! Small place, easy to pass by, but worth the stop. read more

Service was good and very friendly and helpful. The ambiance was about what you'd expect for a small town Mexican restaurant. But the food was inconsistent, at least to my taste. I had the Chicken Poblano Fajitas. The chips and salsa were very good as was the quac that came with the meal. The pinto beans were outstanding, nearly as good as I can remember ever having. And the main -- chicken/poblano was pretty darned good. What lowered my overall rating was the tortilla. I opted for corn which usually is more consistent at restaurants than flour. Maybe it was my mistake, but the corn tortillas were over heated and became tough and tasteless. Kinda ruined the fajita experience. Lastly the margarita was a mix and not very good. read more

I eat here often, while I'm in town working at the ranch. The food is very good, and I would recommend it over any other Mexican food in town. Great prices, and the servings are good sized plates. read more

This place is amazing once again! I ordered the Horchata drink and they make it extremely well. I also ordered the CCQ Chicken Burrito and it came out with rice and beans covered in queso. Taste buds to the Max. I also had a side dish of a crunchy taco. The beef has an authentic Mexican taste and it's delicious. My wife ordered the chicken quesadilla and it was served with sour creme and guacamole. She also had an Arnold Palmer (sweet tea with real lemonade)! The chips are warm and just the right thickness for a crunch and it can hold the homemade salsa without breaking. Not wimpy chips! We dined outside and what a perfect evening for us. read more

I'd give it zero stars if I could. Carne asada had no flavor, the chicken carne asada, which ive never seen or heard of was dry and had flavor on 1 piece of chicken, refried beans looked like cat puke. The bacon wrapped Jalapeños were burnt. The queso dip was cheese straight out of the can with ground beef which once again had no flavor, the salsa was watery and the guacamole, HA, just mashed up avocados. How this place claims to be the best Mexican food in rusk tx is beyond me. read more

We got take our here on the recommendation of a Rusk native as the best in town. I guess they have never had GOOD Mexican food elsewhere. The food is edible, but a bit bland. The beef in the taco was seasoned with salt and nothing more. The tamal was good, the beef enchilada was bland. The guacamole was tasteless, ant the flautas were made with flour tortillas. We won't bother to go back. read more

Went last night for our 30th anniversary so we decided to try this place out. We had to sit ourselves. Took 20 minutes for someone to ask us for our drinks and brought us some chips and salsa, the salsa was nothing but water. The bus boy was the one who took of that. The dishwasher did take our order for Chile con quesa and got it to us. Long story short, we left after an hour because no one took our order. It was bad. read more

We ordered to go and sat at a table to wait for our food. They offered chips and salsa at the table even though we weren't dining in! Service is great and staff was very friendly. The food was delicious (especially the charro beans). We ordered the fajitas and my favorite was the shrimp. We like to eat spicy and asked for hot hot sauce; they did not disappoint. We visited them during the time they did not have a liquor license so my husband got a free beer which is always nice. read more
