Whomever made my chilaquiles is dead wrong. I was really looking forward to having it. I saw a burned chip thinking it was a bell pepper because of the shape and to my dismay it was actually a burned chip followed by more burned chips. Worst Mexican food place you could ever go to. I can't believe they're even in business. Walking into this restaurant I immediately felt the true hispanic feeling and welcome. As soon as we sat down the server brought us chips and salsa and gave us the menu to be ready to eat. The restaurant had a pleasant ambiance with music playing in the background as well as the 49ers vs Raiders game which was also very entertaining. In terms of food I ordered a Burrito Regular de Asada as well as an Agua de Horchata and both were amazing. The Burrito had a HUGE amount of meat and flavor which is very rare nowadays where the burritos are instead filled with mostly rice and beans. At this restaurant though it was the complete opposite where I was able to taste the meat in every single bite. For the Horchata I also very much enjoyed this drink and its flavor. The only thing I wish was different was that the Horchata had ice so that the drink stayed cold instead of getting warmer over time. Not sure if you are to seat yourself, go up to person at counter and order first, or go to cashier to order and pay. So, we sat our lazy asses down. Eventually a server came and gave us menus, followed by chip n' salsa. They were pretty busy for a Saturday afternoon. Every New Year's Day, we search for an open Mexican Restaurant that serves Menudo. It's our tradition to eat Menudo on the first day of the new year. Fortunately this year, we found La Chona open, so we had our lunch there. We arrived with one free table for us. We ordered and waited. I love their chips and salsa. Thick and crunchy. The salsa had a nice spicy kick to it. Then we got our big Menudo bowls. Lots of tripe and hominy in it. The chips went well with the soup. I loved it! Unfortunately, the friendly service kind of suffered because of the bulk of customers in line waiting for a free table. I tried so hard to flag someone to refill our Horchata and chips. It is a holiday, so most of the nearby restaurants were closed. People went to the only place open in the area, La Chona. It's good for business, but perhaps not a good day to review them. Tasty hand made tortillas compliment the delicious bowl of heaven. Their Michelada's/Chavela's are good as well and goes perfectly when all combined for the ultimate hangover cure! (hangover not needed) I have yet to try other dishes that they offer here but I've heard nothing but great things about them.. The service isn't the greatest and the wait isn't long if you're coming on any day other than Sundays when they're the busiest.
