This is a very small, unassuming, neighborhood "order at the window" and find yourself a seat place. (That's generally a good thing unless you're looking for full service.) if you're eating there and manage to find a table, be prepared to wipe it down yourself, because the staff is super busy taking and preparing orders. The staff was polite and helpful, the cashier providing guidance on menu options to us 1st timers. We ordered and paid for 2 "chicken fajita-type" plates. The orders come with salsa and a tiny bag of store-bought tortilla chips. (The cashier told me they would bring the food to our table, because we never would have heard them calling order #s from where we were seated.) This place seems well frequented by locals (it was lunchtime on a weekday). So, we waited a while for our order, so long that we decided we wanted to take it to go instead. However, when I went up to ask them to pack our food to go instead, one of our orders was in the pick up window. Turns out, they had been calling our order # AND they only made 1 plate, not the 2 we ordered and paid for. The helper was apologetic and quickly refunded the $ for the 2nd plate that never came. Has become my favorite Mexican spot EASILY! Lots of Bay Area competition on this and I know, extremely arguable. But I've been here 8 times in the last 3 weeks.... Burritos are heavy and delicious. Flavor in every bite! Only gotten burritos and horchata and that's honestly all you need. Horchata isn't gritty. Is the perfect balance of sweet and creamy. I've had asada, grilled chicken and shredded chicken burritos. I can't decide between the asada and the GRILLED chicken. Which is why I've gone back so many times haha! I would recommend calling ahead of time because there can be a 15-20 minute wait when it gets busy! The al pastor here is not their speciality unfortunately. I would not recommend the Al pastor here. You won't get the true flavor from a burrito due to the guac, cheese, and other additions which is why I like to order a classic rice, beans, and meat with salsa on the side. The flavor of the al pastor was flat, wet, and mushy. The rice was also overcooked adding to the wet feeling while holding the burrito. I did pick up on a slight pineapple flavor but it wasn't redeeming. I was disappointed by the texture and flavor. I was hoping for a trompo slow cooked, thin sliced, with hints of smoke and char type pastor. The staff are attentive with questions and were friendly. Parking in the back was helpful. read more

I was on a personal retreat in the area. Before getting started, I just wanted to grab a late dinner. I felt like going Mexican, and yelpers gave this a good rating, so I decided to head over. I ordered the Al Pastor quesadilla. I opted to dine in and then soon realized it actually came as a whole dinner plate! There were very generous helpings of refried beans and rice. The beans were also topped with a smooth layer of melted queso. The bed of shredded lettuce and tomatoes was super fresh. And unlike a lot of taquerias where the Pastor is heavily sweet, here it was more tangy than sweet with the pork marinated very thoroughly. Everything stayed hot, even through a cold autumn night. I finished most of it, but still had a slice of quesadilla left. I usually leave something like this in the fridge for a couple of nights to finish off later, so I don't get taste fatigue. But I enjoyed it enough that I decided to finish it that same night as a late snack. Aesthetically I have to admit the dish looked plain. But its appearance belied the subtle and pleasantly balanced blend of different spices and flavors. I'm really glad I dropped by. Thank you my fellow yelpers for beckoning me here. Another bonus was that everywhere was really clean, including the restroom. It was clear that ownership was very conscientious about how it cooked as well as how it kept the establishment. It's along San Pablo Dam Rd, so anticipate a busy street while driving here. There's a parking lot at El Trompudo so that's a plus! My boyfriend and I have a list of standard things we typically get here: - Carne Asada tacos: simple and satisfying, always packed with a nice savory hit! - Al Pastor tacos: also simple yet flavorful, not the type to get you feeling groggy afterwards! - Surf & Turf Burrito: one of my favorites! I usually order this without rice (just to watch my carbs) and they still do well with the protein.
