I've only tried the pupusas here, so that is what my rating will be on. I ordered for pick up. The lady was straight and to the point. Okay, I'm cool with that. They said about 15 mins. The place could use a deep cleaning. It looks a bit outdated, but at the same time it looks like it's well frequented to, as well. Pickup was easy. The workers aren't very personable, which was fine since I picked up. I didn't have to leave a tip for service. Honestly, I don't remember how much I paid, but I don't remember feeling like it was too much, so I can't complain on that. I got two kinds: the cheese, chicharron and beans and the cheese and chicharron. Tbh, just the plain cheese and chicharron were my fave. They were absolutely delicious. Juicy, lots of filling, and scrumptious to the last bite. The layer of filling to that of the masa, was in my opinion, a good ratio. Easily my favorite taqueria in the area. The burritos are good, and would be worth about 4 stars on their own. The meat is the highlight, and I recommend something more flavorful like Pastor or Carnitas, though even the chicken is pretty good. The rice is a little dry, but the hot salsa they provide helps even it out. The pupusas, however, are easily the highlight. Best I've had, ESPECIALLY when you get them for takeout. My theory is that being in the package lets them steam in the condensation for a while, so by the time you get them home, they're the perfect texture without having dry edges. A friend recommended me this spot so I came here for the pupusas. The first thing I noticed was no lard smell and the clean electric grill upon entering. The indoor has tables and lots of locals inside enjoying the specialties. The parking here at this location has a parking lot and street parking. Haven't been to La Bamba in a few yrs but remember it being pretty good. I paid over $30 for 2 burritos and left a $5 tip. I hadn't eaten all day so scarfed my burrito down. Hubby only ate half of his. Mind u, we were eating in a dimly lit living room watching tv. When hubby took his half burrito to the kitchen to put away, he noticed visible mold on the tortilla. Blue green circles . If his tortilla was moldy, was mine? I ate the whole thing!!! He ate half of his. Got a shredded chicken super burrito w/no cilantro, started eating & got half way down, no sour cream, no guacamole & didn't see any cheese. I stop eating & opened it, there was only chicken, rice & beans & a small portion of pico de gallo. I called & told them & they remembered my order & told me to come & they would re-make it. When I took it back to show them the inside the guacamole was found in a corner at the opposite end of the burrito. I see everyone busy slapping those delicious papusas and putting them on the stove BUT I had to flag someone to please take my order. I went in at 9:40PM because I was hungry and although the restaurant closes at 10PM, The staff was so nice she allowed me to order and eat at the establishment. I ordered 1 pupusa (chicharrón y queso) and we ordered a burrito de carne asada. I must say the food was so good. The burrito was good but the pupusa was the best. I also had a Tamarindo and it had the perfect sweet and sour flavor. There was only one couple there, so the restaurant was quiet. The restaurant was clean as well the bathroom. Located along a busy stretch of San Pablo Avenue next to the Interstate 80 on and off ramp, Taqueria La Bamba has been here for many decades, taking over for the Old Oak Pit barbecue restaurant and they have managed to maintain so much success over the years thanks to their signature staples, especially their Pupusas, of which they have no fewer than eleven different varieties. For those who don't know, Pupusas are a thick griddle cake, or flatbread, from Central America, namely El Salvador and Honduras, that are made with either cornmeal or rice flour. They are similar to the Colombian and Venezuelan arepa and are filled with various ingredients, which in Taqueria La Bamba's case includes cheese, pork, beans, and even zucchini. In what is becoming a bigger trend to diversify their menu many traditional taquerias have expanded their offerings beyond the traditional burritos and tacos, and Taqueria La Bamba is definitely in that category. My most recent trip to Taqueria La Bamba was for a quick takeout lunch, as I had just gotten off the nearby subway and was in need of some quick sustenance. My first thought was to head to Taqueria La Bamba as I knew they were quick and affordable and I haven't been in quite some time. Finding parking at Taqueria La Bamba was easy as they have a nearby parking lot that their neighbors the Goodwill store and KFC both share. When I walked into Taqueria La Bamba one of their doors said exit only, when I realized that it was their only door to enter their restaurant as they used to have an outdoor ordering space on one side of their building that their open kitchen faced, but now that seems to be gone. The menu at Taqueria La Bamba has categories including Burritos, Tacos, Fish & Shrimp, Combo Plates, Breakfast Plates, Platos Típicos, Side Orders, Appetizers, Drinks and of course their Pupusas. I opted to order a Super Burrito, as it came with rice, pinto beans, sour cream, cheese, guacamole, salsa fresca, onions, cilantro as well as your choice of meat of which I opted for Asada or steak. My total bill before tip was $12.07 with tax, which is a price increase from the last time I came, which admittedly was quite some time ago, but in line with their many competitors in the Richmond area. It didn't take too long for my order to be called out, as I also received complimentary tortilla chips and one salsa verde and two salsa rojas to go with my Super Burrito. Once I got home, my burrito was so large that I was able to cut it into two halves and enjoy it over the course of two lunchtime meals. My burrito was filled with a wide variety of ingredients that made every bite when combined with a tortilla chip and the salsa verde was a truly delicious meal. I should warn anyone who loves salsa with their burrito that their red sauce is muy caliente so your tongue is forewarned. My burrito only wanted me to make a return visit to Taqueria La Bamba and try one of their signature Pupusas, as I saw a team of staff members preparing and cooking away in their open kitchen, so they must be good, especially if they're made to order burrito is any indication. I am so glad that Taqueria La Bamba continues to thrive in the competitive Latin cuisine marketplace that is near the Interstate 80 corridor of Richmond and El Cerrito, as at Taqueria La Bamba they have a menu filled with such a wide variety of items that would satisfy any appetite and will have you singing a few bars of "y arriba y arriba" after your visit! read more

What's good? 1. Pupusas - Revuelta with beans and cheese (shredded pork) was the best flavor - Loroco with beans and cheese was interesting. Loroco is actually a flower bud from Central America that tastes and looks like chopped green peppers/cactus - Order individual pupusas or go for the chalateco plate For the extra $7, you get plantains (heaven!), beans and sour cream with 2 pupusas. I was stuffed after just one. 2. Tamales - 3 flavors: pork, chicken and corn - Ultra savory with lean meat (no chunks of fat in sight which I typically have to pick out) 3. Burritos - Large with all the fillings - Friends thoroughly enjoyed giving in and eating them as their second dinner back home 4. Tamarindo Drink - Perfect amount of sweet and tartness, you can taste the tamarind pulp Authentic? Heck yes! The printed signs were all in Spanish. La Bamba has been the place of comfort and tradition. My brother introduced me to this restaurant a few years ago and I fell in love with all that they make here. Before Covid, you could see the staff making the pupusas fresh and it was worth the wait. I love the system they have set up for Covid. You can call ahead and order or if you are there in person they have a all the social distance guidelines setup. They have markings on the floor to keep 6ft apart, a window to take orders for walk up or pickup, staff wearing masks and gloves, and hand sanitizer station. I appreciate this so much! We ordered a super carnitas burrito, two chicken tamales combo plate, a chicken quesadilla, and two loroco pupusas. Every single item was delicious and packed full! These pupusas are stuffed and a good ratio from filling to carby goodness. I asked for my carnitas to be crispy and they gave me just that! Super juicy and flavor dancing on my tongue. The quesadilla was tasty as the burrito just without the rice and beans. It's a small place and it gets busy! And every time I am anywhere near the Bay Area, I make sure to get off 580 and stop at a little cinderblock place on San Pablo called La Bamba. Just went there today. I continue to be blown away by this place. Sometimes burritos can just taste like paste. The ingredients glom together, and it's not quite nirvana. What especially amazed me today was how every bite of my carnitas super burrito tasted of its perfectly placed ingredients. The pork stood out. The beans were pillowy. The spices intense. The guacamole, crema, cilantro, pico de gallo played their supporting parts. Also has a good papusa, and they've got other things on the menu, I guess, but God damn that was a great burrito. As ever.
