What a fun experience! This restaurant recently opened in Waukegan in the plaza by Jewel. It has plenty of parking and a super cute patio for the nicer weather. When we walked in, we were wow'd by the fun decor. We were quickly seated and were so excited to try a bunch of things on the menu. We started with drinks. I unfortunately got handed the wrong drink mistaking a mocktail with a cocktail but the food made up for it. We started with the pork belly dish, which still lives rent free in my head. The tacos were super filled and full of flavor. The steak is another highlight. The tuna and berries dish left more questions than answers. The presentations were stunning, I just wish that the staff was able to explain more about each dish and how we're supposed to eat some of them. Like we get handed crackers but had no idea what they were supposed to do with and were left to figure it out even after asking. Their fresh bread to start is delicious too! Overall we had a great experience, the food was delish! I would just make a recommendation to explain how some of the fusion dishes are meant to be eaten. read more

I love that there is a beautiful new restaurant in Waukegan. I appreciate this opportunity to try creative takes on Mexican food in my hometown. That being said most of the food was delicious but there were a few things that missed the mark for me. I asked my server what type of bread we had at the table and she was unsure which just left me wondering why such bread was even at a Mexican restaurant. The guacamole pork belly was delicious and a great start to our meal and had me wanting more along with corn ribs that hit my need for corn elote. The tacos I ate also hit the spot I shared the surf & turf. We also ate pulpo con birria tacos that my taste buds loved me for the great flavors. After all this is a beautiful restaurant had a great base to start from but it doesn't have an identity for the food and it i shows on the menu. When we first walked in, I thought that the decor was gorgeous from the murals to the furniture. New restaurant that had been open for about 4 months. I thought that most of the food that we had ordered was really great. The menu is a little hard to read though. I think they could redesign it to where it's not so big (physically - large margins) and bolder/lighter text that's on a dark background. I also think the tacos should be on the main menu as well since they're currently only offered for happy hour (but is also offered all day). My table had ordered the corn ribs & pork belly guacamole to start. The corn ribs had a good spice kick, but still delicious with the cheese and everything. Loved the pork belly guacamole, just wish there was a little bit more guac. However it was served with a hefty amount of pork belly. For entrees to share, we got two orders of tacos, the birria octopus tacos and surf @ turf tacos. The birria kind of overpowered the octopus and couldn't taste it much, but both proteins were super tender. Surf and tacos were just as delicious, and both sets of tacos were pretty filled up. We also got the Arrachera and the tuna tartare. I thought the crispy potatoes could a little bit more seasoning, but the steak was cooked really well. I don't think the plate needed two different purées though either. The tuna tartare had a really cool presentation, however I think there were just too many flavors trying to clash together. The service could definitely use some work/fine tuning. Our server, though friendly, unfortunately switched my drink with my friend's drink. She also didn't know what kind of bread was served, which was interesting. They do leave bottles of sparkling and still water on the table if you're wanting to drink/pay for those. I wish she'd offer tap water or asked us what we would prefer to drink. Since that can be confusing on whether or not you have to pay for those bottles of water. One last reason on why I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 - I don't appreciate them trying to fit a part of 4 at a table that's really only meant for like 2 people. With all of the food coming, the table just wasn't big enough and we had to try and get rid of plates to make room for more. Especially since it was a Monday night and on the slow side, they definitely had the room to push two tables together for us. read more

La Chuparosa is fantastic! We went here for one drink and ended up having several, along with appetizers and dinner. The ambiance is everything I want in a place once you're inside you are transported into a fantastic spot and you completely forget the fact that it is inside a strip mall. The staff were so attentive, they even brought shots for the table which was entirely unexpected. Honestly, from the moment we walked in, the entire experience from start to finish was unexpected. Elevated, amazing. I previously disputed the prices with a friend because I couldn't justify the cost with the location but they proved me wrong. While it is pricey here--very pricey--it was 100% worth the experience and I will absolutely return when I'm done washing all those dishes to pay the tab! read more

The restaurant decor ,was amazing and the customer service was excellent. La Toxica drink was amazing so flavorful and unique, definitely a must try. The drinks are definitely the strong point here. For food, we ordered the tinga taquitos, guacamole pork belly, risotto & pulpo a la Padilla, arrachera, aguachile chuparosa and surf & turf. While the presentation was nice, I found the flavors a little underwhelming. The guacamole had too much lime, and almost every dish seemed to come with red onions, which become a bit repetitive. I was especially disappointed with the arrachera I was expecting a richer bolder flavor. Overall, fantastic service and drinks but the food didn't live up to the same level. With some adjustments to seasoning and flavor balance, this place could really shine. read more

Had dinner here last Saturday, I asked for a mocktail but they don't have any crafted on the menu yet! To start we had the atún sashimi, it was excellent and the portion was large, good for big groups! My cousin had the skirt steak which was cooked perfectly. She wasn't a fan of the Mexican Hummus, she said she would've liked an option for mashed potatoes, she gave me a try and I thought it was tasty, but I do understand some people are picky. I had the grilled octopus risotto. The octopus was seasoned and grilled perfectly. The risotto was creamy but I think the portion was huge compared to the octopus portion. Lastly don't skip dessert! I tried the pumpkin crème brûlée and it was out of this world delicious! The restaurant itself is gorgeous and sophisticated, great for girls night or date night! They also have a DJ on the weekends. Happy Hour is the way to go if you want to try a lot of different items, at prices that are quite reasonable. We loved our dinner that we had a while ago, but this was a lovely, lighter alternative. I could eat the taquitos for every meal. Our server, Alejandra, was perfectly friendly and knowledgeable, and we enjoyed her company! Me and my family decided to try out La Chuparosa today, and we are very happy we did! We used to go to the restaurant that was there before a lot, so we were excited to see the transformation. The food was delicious and unique. Between the 5 of us we tried out the Guacamole Pork Belly, Mexican Corn Ribs, Arrachera, "Rissoto Pulpo A La Parilla," which was a delicious octopus over risotto, Shrimp Pasta, which was mixed into a cheese wheel right in front of you, and "El Tronco," which is an ice cream tour. The arrachera was beautifully cooked with yummy and matching sides. The chimichurri was delicious! The guacamole pork belly was definitely my favorite dish we tried, right next to the octopus. The service was amazing and left me and my family satisfied. Our server, Alejandra was awesome! We could really tell she cared about us having a good first experience and enjoying everything. As if the food and service were not already giving us an amazing and unique experience, the atmosphere was beautiful with the lighting and decorations. The server took forever to take our order, the guacamole pork belly was disgusting, the meat was sweet and very little guacamole. My wife ended up throwing up on the side of road. The steak was ok but over seasoned with a lot of salt. The atmosphere is good and the decoration it's nice. I was completely disappointed and still tip for poor service. To start we sat outside no music, chairs were missing cushions just horrendous, after our appetizers we decided to ask to go inside as it was still early and not a lot of costumers yet were told that they had only one table in the center of the room, turns out that the rest of the tables where for the owners friends.. we had the corn ribs which had no flavor tasted like water. Surf n turf tacos, meat was under cooked no flavor and chewy.. also had the sweet n spicy wings which did have good flavor and cooked to perfection. Wife had the shrimp pasta that was probably made the day before as the server was melting the cheese for the pasta we thought how cool but all that for the nothing it was just plain..and I had the tomahawk wrapped in gold asked for it medium well and got it well done and it was the size of a lamb chop smh..never even received my crispy potatoes for my tomahawk ppl need to stop saying that the food is good when in reality it isn't.. it's all a show for the money wish I didn't have to give it a star but I guess I have to. Waukegan finally has a restaurant worth going to! (I said what I said.) I have lived in Waukegan all of my life and I am constantly going to Vernon Hills, Schaumburg, and Oak Brook for a decent dinner out. Those days are over, La Chuparosa will be my go-to now! We took Las Vegas YouTuber Shin's advice ("Every restaurant is a buffet if you're willing to pay!") and visited La Chuparosa for dinner on Sunday. We wanted to really get to know the menu so we ordered quite a bit of food and drink. To our surprise, they had a stellar happy hour - the pricing was very accommodating and every single dish was amazing! To start, we had the Guacamole Pork Belly (The freshest Guacamole you will ever taste!), Tinga Taquitos (Crunchy and filled with delicious chicken!), Korean Tacos (The meats are marinated so well, so flavorful and tender!), Sweet & Sour Wings (Crispy and moist with the best sauce!). We split the Mango Salad and it was light, flavorful, and just delicious. It worked as an excellent palate cleanser between the different bites of food. My husband ordered the Mexican Wheel Shrimp pasta and I ordered the Aguachile Ribeye (One of the best ribeyes I have ever had...and I have had steaks all around this country! I normally am a purest and never want anything on my steaks, but what an experience this was! The topping of sliced jalapenos and pickled red onions - life-changing!) The cocktail menu is equally as impressive and the flavors paired nicely with our food. I was able to try La Toxica, La Dormilona, and Corazon Bonito. What I appreciated the most is that the drinks were very well balanced and nothing was overly sweet. After the second drink, I had a great buzz going. We ended the evening with the Pumpkin Creme Brulee and it did not disappoint! Real vanilla and pumpkin spice for those craving fall vibes. I would give La Chuparosa more stars if I could. I would even venture to say that it rivals Viva! by Ray Garcia in Las Vegas. I have now dined at both and think La Chuparosa wins hands-down! We can't wait to come back soon! We were so pleasantly surprised at the new place. It is absolutely beautiful and the whole place is completely redone. Ordered the surf and turf tacos and it was the best taco I ever had.
