Fried avocado taco + plantain taco
    Karyn M.

I stopped in one weekday afternoon for lunch. I had the esquites (corn, jalapeño mayo, cotija, tajin) which was delicious and a little spicy. I also had a fried avocado taco. The jalapeño mayo and corn and bean pico made it very flavorful and not at all bland. I also had a plantain taco which was tasty with garlic beet cream, carrot escabeche and slaw, and the sweetness of the plantain was nice. My food came out fairly quickly which was great, because then a couple of groups came in. This was a nice, quick lunch and I'd be glad to come back and try other dishes.

Awesome tacos place in the heart of Libertyville. We came for lunch today after arriving for the holidays. We were greeted fairly quickly but had to wait a few minutes to be seated. Once seated we viewed the menu and I found the tacos I was interested based on a recommendation. I ordered the brisket and carne asada tacos. The brisket was well cooked and tender with a hint of spice. The best was the carne asada sweet and heat was perfect for me. We also ordered chips and salsa and guacamole. We were provided a red and green chile salsa and each had diverse flavors of sweet and spicy. Guacamole was not the best I've had but was good. This would be a 5 except for the bar service being slow for a glass of wine. The restaurant wasn't packed but overall a great experience.

Met a fried for lunch have never been here but walked by many times. Good selection of tacos and margarittas. I had the brisket, carnival and pastor. The brisket was probably the best .some of the other eschewed a little dry needed sauce. All had different toppings to go with the proteins. They had lots of margarittas to chose from. Standard ones were excellent , no mix. Friendly fast service. Not crowded at 12 p when qe got there , full when we left at 130. Would come back to try some of the other selections.

My coworkers and I gave Milwalky Taco a try! She tried is before and we wanted to treat another one of my coworkers a late bday. Food: The quality of the food the flavor, and freshness really was amazing. I haven't had anything this good in a while. I will say definitely get the tacos they are amazing! Service: Our waitress really was attentive and gave good recommendations to things we could try. Atmosphere: Or what I like to call ambiance was very welcoming and the colors and signage inside really was enjoyable to see. Overall, I would say MT was really a great experience and worth every penny you won't regret it!

So I came here specifically because one of my co worker told me the best burrito he ever had was at this location. Although it I won't come back for their burrito, their taco might have me coming back. Brisket burrito: Not as flavorful or different from a normal burrito that I usually have. I was expecting to recognize something unique about it but it met the standard taste texture. Taco: Tortilla feel and tasted fresh. A little pricey but noticeably different in quality. A good amount of options that has their own flair and Horchata: Very sweet and refreshing. Not too sweet for my palate but could be for someone else. Service: Quick and responsive. Served food as it was ready instead of all at once since I came alone. Much appreciated.

Always consistent, delicious tacos, homemade chips, salsa and guac, and great early bird drink deals! This is my local go to place for an easy after work cocktail and tacos. The outdoor seating areas are a huge plus!

Milwalky Taco came to the rescue when my friend and I needed a quick dinner before heading to a show at Improv Playhouse. We were seated immediately on a Friday night and the service was fast. We had no problem ordering and finishing a couple of tacos in under an hour -- no small feat when every other restaurant had a long wait! The food was good and we both want to return to try some of the side dishes and other interesting tacos on the menu.

The bartender was kind and quick and took care of us sitting at the high tops when no one was at the bar. I had the Amber Ale and I would definitely recommend. I'm not a fan of the IPAs and I don't like the light beers much, so this ale is on my list as one of the best local beers around! The food that was catered was amazing. Great spinach dip, cheese bites, and the pizza was surprisingly delicious. It's rare that a bar pizza stands out, but I swear by this one. Loved the sausage and pepperoni and had my fair share before leaving. They even gave us take home containers so that I could take more home. All the employees here were kind and helpful. I definitely recommend you host an event here or come for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

We started with Caesar Salad and a Prosciutto and Mozzarella dish. Both were good. The Caesar greens were a little "old and brown" but still tasted good. The Prosciutto dish was really good and fresh. Everyone doing great. We ordered some cocktails that were on point as well. Service was slow - probably had a little to do with being on a second floor of the restaurant. But we enjoyed the pace. Entrees ordered were 2 different steaks and one Bacon wrapped chicken. The steaks were amazing. A lot of places, even steakhouses, are cutting back on quality due to costs. These steaks were delicious. I ordered the Allen Bros Ribeye which was cooked perfect and was sooooooo flavorful. It was awesome. The Bacon Wrapped Chicken however, was actually black on top and the chicken dry and over cooked. My wife couldn't eat it. To the restaurant's strength, when we alerted the waiter, they immediately took it off the bill and offered to get anything else. When my wife passed (she ate some of our steaks), they bought dessert for our table too. It was the carrot cake and delicious. We will be back and enjoyed our evening out.

After several visits, it is clear this is a restaurant that understands the fundamentals of fine dining: atmosphere, execution, and a menu that extends well beyond its steakhouse label. What first sets The Tavern apart is its ambiance. The space leans into a dark, romantic, dimly lit aesthetic that feels both polished and inviting. On our most recent visit, we were seated upstairs according to our reservation, and that remains the preferred setting. The quieter noise level above the main floor allows for more comfortable conversation and a more intimate dining experience. Service was solid, if not especially memorable. Our server was efficient and capable throughout the evening, though somewhat lacking in warmth and guidance. Fortunately, the kitchen carried the night with ease. Every entrée at the table was excellent. My wife's lobster was particularly well received, while the steaks were cooked properly, deeply flavorful, and presented with the kind of care expected at this level. Presentation across the board was refined and appealing. The wine program also deserves recognition. The list is extensive, thoughtfully selected, and offers strong choices for diners who appreciate pairing a serious bottle with dinner. The Tavern is undeniably a high-price-point experience, but it largely delivers the quality and atmosphere to justify it. For those seeking a refined steakhouse meal in Libertyville with strong food, notable wine, and an intimate setting, it is easy to recommend.
