Tried ordering ahead today by calling. No one answered. Tried calling 3 times over 10 minutes. I figured maybe they were super busy so decided to just go order in person and wait. I was the only one there. When i ordered the regular burrito i saw a sign that they now include lettuce, tomato, and sour cream in it which i am not a fan of. I like my burritos simple so i asked them to leave it out. They left it out but the burrito i got was much smaller than i remember them being. I realized they are probably including that stuff in the regular burrito so they can put less meat, beans etc. kinda disappointed and not sure if ill come back. read more

Used to absolutely adore this place, but they recently started to add whole beans instead of refried, (even when we ASKED for them because we knew about the menu change of "whole beans only". But WHY? Oh they said it was "healthier" does anyone actually care to suffer while beans? It reminded me of the burritos on the Grateful Dead lot in Oakland made by white hippie kids back in the 90's ) Anyways, We always ask for "no lettuce" but they either didn't listen, or care that we've been coming in there for years, ordering *exactly the same things, every time*, and we're watching the super/supreme veggie go down hill. I wasn't even sure if there was slices of avocado in there which used to be a HUGE reason for use to go there? They used to be like a slight combination of high end homemade, and excellent drop-in Mexican, but it's just not the same, and that's been only a few months since they started this whole beans nonsense, without substitution, I guess. It also tasted kind of soppy wet, and bland inside, rather than added avocado and sour cream, pico de gallo, etc. Mayne this was caused by the gross yellow lettuce that took over the flavor of the entire burrito. I will give the enchiladas another try, but I'm not going in for another veggie super again. It was seriously just horrid. Sorry it's so rough on the rating, but we used to count on them to be one of the best in town, they cared, and they always got it right. -We have digestive stuff going on, and have certain food aversion, so it's a deal breaker, we seriously loved them, and wanted to continue to support them but it's just yucky now in the burrito department. My dude got his with pastor and he says it was "just ok", and he also dislikes the whole beans. We WILL go back for the enchiladas, hoping for quality continuity. I also have to agree that the chips are dry and lack luster as other reviews. We will probs depend on Gordo, also nearby, more often now. Sorry. We'd for sure go back if things improved. We picked up food from this place a few days ago. The service was great and our order was received exactly as ordered. The beef taquitos were barely edible. The beef was cooked/fried beyond done and had some chewy fat in it. The rice & beans were good, as well as the chips & salsa. My husband had a pork burrito and said it was good. They also sell breakfast burritos all day, and I would be tempted to get a sausage breakfast burrito. There are plenty of tables inside if you'd rather dine in, and they make your food quickly. We ordered tacos - 1 had the taco plate. The rice and beans were fresh and authentic. The shrimp taco was delicious and had fresh avocado on it. The fish taco was good white fish without all the breading to mask flavor. The sauce on the spicy fish taco was perfect which translates to too hot for spice haters and mild to those who love heat. Food is good but I'm done going here because they refuse to give you free water, which btw is a federal law and the most basic human right. I hope it's worth it because you would need to sell 22.5 water bottles to compensate for each time I don't come in there. That's twice a month with $9 spent each, 9x2x12/.4 = 540 water bottles just comp me a year. My message to the manager is that it is not worth trying to nickel and dime people for the small things because opportunity cost and brand damage can be far greater than a $.4 water. The girls at the register here are unfriendly not rude but just the kind of service you get from someone who hates their job lol. It goes hand in hand with the crappy gringo style Mexican food they serve and crappy smelling trash cans at the back of their restaurant. (FYI that is not normal. Ever go to a restaurant and pass through the back of it and the trash cans smell like dead people every time? Not even the trash cans at the back of Winco smell that rancid. Okay so here's the deal. I really like their food, they fish tacos are delicious. But I suggest PAY WITH CASH. I went here on Sunday 5/13 and ordered my food for takeout. My total was $20 something I gave a dollar tip. My cashier asked if I wanted a receipt, I said no. Directly after I pay I get a charge on my card for $24 something. Affordable as a date spot for laid back folk like us who don't mind a disposable plate and standing in line. This may be the unpopular opinion here, but I was not impressed with La Cocina Economica. The service was just okay, the food was just okay and the space is just okay. I ordered the Baja Fish Taco Plate and an Arizona, and the Arizona ended up being the most enjoyable part of my meal. It wasn't bad, but my fish wasn't flavorful at all and covered with a "mild" sauce that was low in flavor and high in annoyance being that it was EVERYWHERE.
