I took a friend with me to lunch to a place that I have always been curious about but never tried, and I was not disappointed. Pelicans Roost Chowder House, this unfussy restaurant inside the East Avenue Marketplace serves a variety of seafood dishes. Our waitress was extremely nice, efficient, and attentive. She suggested that we try the senior menu option which was perfect as it came with all the items that I wanted to try; one piece of fried fish, French fries, and clam chowder. I am very particular about my chowder, and this was excellent. I really enjoyed my light and flaky fish and thought that it was light in terms of grease. Unfortunately, my friend thought just the opposite and thought it was overly greasy, and so I finished her fish and chips, so we were both happy. I will returning again. read more

We drive from Red Bluff just to get the Pelican's Roost food. They always do a great job and the food comes out fast and piping hot. Everything was delicious, and the service is good too. Will definitely be back for my next fish n chips fix! read more

Best clam chowder I've had in as long as I can remember. The fish was flaky and delicious!

The fish and chips were totally lacking in any kind of seasoning. Saying that the food was bland would be an understatement. The fact that the establishment seems to be run by Hispanics make this all the more confounding. Gotta do do better guys. read more

What a hidden Chico gem. Restaurant was very clean and comfortable. Food was incredibly fresh and the fish and chips made to order. I had the clam chowder - an incredibly generous portion that just needed a little pepper to make it delicious. My friend had the fish and chips which were 8/10 better than anything we'd just had on the coast. Service was the best I've seen in a long time. Our waitress was helpful, attentive but non-intrusive. the food is a total 5. The clam chowder is fantastic. I have been all over the US and I must say this is at the top of the list . Big clumps of clams and a fresh seafood taste. Calamari strips were a 4, but only because I prefer rings. My companion had oysters and really enjoyed the plate our server was excellent, she said she has been with the business for 15 years . My parents gave been enjoying this place for years! Especially with the regular coupons the restaurant offers. We joined them recently and were very impressed. The fish n chips are crispy on the outside, not too much breading and the fish inside is moist and flaky. I ordered the Shrimp Louie and it was super fresh with loads of baby shrimp. We also loved the fried zucchini appetizer, the clam chowder and fresh bread. read more

Extremely disappointing as I was looking forward to trying more dishes around here but staff were very off putting. We were pretty dissatisfied last time there, the scallops ordered must have disintegrated during cooking, nothing but hard as a rock batter , the cod wasn't like the Alaskin cod it usually is either. Wish Chico would get some decent seafood places . We actually drive over to the coast now which is a hardship but we love our seafood. First time customers, came in for my mom's 80th bday and our server asked us if it was a special day. Serena took such good care of us. She was very personable from the moment she approached our table and accommodated our picky palates with the ease of a well-seasoned restaurant manager rather than a fresh employee filling in on a Saturday night for someone who was absent. The fish and chips the other day was great. The clam chowder and salad with bread today wasn't that good, 2/5 stars. The salad tasted like they chopped it up a couple days ago. I was really looking forward to the clam chowder but it tasted like it came from a can. I think a place like this should be making it from scratch, and if not everyday then make it a weekend special or something.
