I truly don't leave reviews - it's not really my style but I feel it's absolutely necessary in this case. Ambiance: 5 stars. Gorgeous patio with dabbled light, comfortable chairs, eclectic decor and a stellar view. Food: 5 stars. No notes, it was incredible. The chorizo con huevos was super f*cking tasty and their homemade tomatillo salsa is PERFECT. Service: 5 stars. Felt like regulars the service was so friendly. I am celiac and the owner came out and personally checked in, expressed her concerns and did her best to accommodate me while also never making me feel like a burden. It's hard to find people who care enough to check in and who go out of their way to try and make it work with dietary restrictions! Was truly a gem of a find driving through on our road trip! Thank you!

The food was delicious the service was great! They welcomed our furry baby Ted to eat on the patio with us and it meant the world to us cause he's our little family. They even brought water for him and asked if they can get him anything to eat. Seriously nice people there.

I don't often give 5 stars. Best Chile Relleno I have had in a long, long time. Very friendly, attentive staff. I can't believe I have been close by for over a year and never tried them before, but I will start eating my way through the menu.

I'm leaving this review here on La Cocina Michoacána because most of the reviews are under Ortega's. They may have changed names, but the food is still the same. The staff, food, and atmosphere were all fantastic. A lovely family owns la Cocina Michoacána. They are the ones who greet you, serve you, and cook for you. Every one of the family members was extremely polite, smiling, and helpful. We sat down and had dinner on a Tuesday evening around 6-7:30 pm. The Restaurant was PACKED when we came through, and we were barely able to grab a table. I counted 28 people on the back patio alone, 3 were large parties, and several booths inside were filled up. There were several regulars, as they knew names, faces and you could tell by the table chats. This was a good sign. We sat on the amazing back patio. It had beautiful views of the land. I had my daughter grab her binoculars, and we were able to watch two cowboys and their cattle dogs round up a large herd of cattle. We watched them for almost an hour--what a wonderful experience. Now to the food, if you follow my family and me on Yelp, then you know we like to order more than we need, more than we can eat but enough, so we try a little of everything. That's good for us and good for people looking at the reviews. To start, they bring out complimentary chips and salsa that are both fresh and tasty. We were born and raised in Central CA, go to LA often. We know authentic Mexican food, and the farther north you go, the harder it is to find it. We ordered fajitas that were sizzling hot and filled with flavor. The tortillas were warm and soft. I ate my entire plate, which is rare for me. It was that good! My daughter and I also wanted to try the Enchilada de Espinaca (Spinach enchiladas). They were flavorful and had a great combination of spinach, tomatoes, and a little onion, covered in green chili sauce. It was excellent. My daughter loved the taste of it. I would order them again. These would also lead me to call their Enchiladas Suizas because they are served with the same green sauce, but instead of spinach, you get chicken. That sounds yummy! My husband ordered 2 Tacos Al Pastor, and they came out looking so colorful. Just like they should! He said they tasted delicious and ate them both. He also ordered a taco salad. It looks a little flat, but I think it's because they don't fill it up with lettuce. You get a nice amount of all the ingredients. The taco shell was made fresh and was crunchy. He said it was good, but he enjoyed the tacos and tamales better. He also enjoyed the Spinach enchiladas. Everything came out hot and tasty. My daughter ordered a pork tamale and cheese enchilada. My husband added a chicken tamale to it. The masa on the tamale was terrific!! It had a wonderful flavor and had us coming back for more. The pork chicken tamales were both flavorful and soft. The cheese enchilada was good, but I didn't care for one of the spices in it. I've never liked Mexican food with cinnamon, Allspice, cardamom, or mace; not sure which one was in it, but it reminded me of cinnamon. Now, If you do, then you'll love the flavor of the sauce. The beans were good, but we all felt the rice was lacking something: flavor and texture-wise. The enchiladas and rice is my only dislike of our entire meal! There is something for everything, even hamburgers, chicken, and salads.

Great Mexican restaurants are hard to find and Great Mexican restaurants in small towns in Northern California are particularly difficult to find, but we found it and absolutely loved it! The food was excellent, the staff was friendly and attentive and the atmosphere is great. We have been to Mexican restaurants all over the country and this is some of the best we have experienced. If you live in Redding, make the trip! If you life in Chico make the trip! In fact if live anywhere in Northern California, make the trip! We promise you won't be disappointed!

We have eaten here twice in the last week. The service and food are spectacular. The birria plate was especially delicious. The view from the patio is beautiful. We highly recommend this restaurant!

Tried two other places in downtown Shasta but both were packed and we did not want to wait - glad we did not! La Perla is adjacent to a bar and has an old school vibe. The decor is diner-esque but interesting. They offer self-serve chips, salsa and soft drinks (the latter for a price). Food portions are generous and very tasty, we all loved our food. My partner had a jalapeño margarita which was extraordinary. Cherry on top was our amazing server - she was extremely nice, prompt and accommodating. A pleasure all around. Highly recommended!

I've learned to not trust Yelp for business info, but then again, sometimes a business's website is…read morewrong too. We wanted to make reservations for dinner on a Thursday but no one answered the phone. We decided to head over to the restaurant a few minutes before we planned to dine with friends only to discover they weren't open and a hand lettered writing on the door said they were closed Thursdays and Sundays. We did return the next evening, now knowing that they would be open on Friday. The restaurant shares an entryway with a popular bar. It was amusing watching people enter the main door and then turn one way or the other to enter a business, only to realize they want the other door. I saw a few families with little kids start towards the bar and then turn to the restaurant. Groups in motorcycle jackets did the reverse. A signboard at the entrance to the restaurant invites customers to choose a table and then help themselves to chips and salsa. My husband and I split an entrée and it was more then enough for the both of us. Portion sizes are generous. The food was very good. Much better than Casa Ramos or Puerto Vallarta. If you want Mexican food in Mount Shasta, stay away from those chains and go to La Perla for a much better meal at reasonable prices to boot. We enjoyed the background music, with songs from the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Paul Simon, The Proclaimers.
