Traveling home from Salem, Oregon, decided to stop for lunch. Stopped at the Tepeyac Grille in Susanville, CA. Waited approx 7 min to be acknowledged, restaurant was not busy. Sat for another 5 minutes before the waitress came to my table. I was served chips and salsa and my drink before I ordered a combo plate. Twenty, thirty minutes passed when I beckoned the waitress and inquired about my order. Kitchen forgot my order. I canceled my order because I was still hour and a half from home. No charge for my drink and chips I left a generous tip for the waitress who was waiting tables, taking phone orders and was also the cashier. The restaurant was very discombobulated, poorly managed. The owner has been advertising a-lot on Facebook so I wanted to support the business and give it another try. Sadly it was a huge fail and I hope others read this review. They have even advertised a new sign on the outside to attract customers. I can tell you some of the things you are doing wrong which will just lower the amount of customers you receive and most definitely not attract out of town customers once they see this review They advertise taco Tuesdays $3 a taco and then charging $8 for the rice and beans to make it a meal is completely unacceptable and overpriced. The beans weren't good and definitely not worth the price of small portions served. The menu did not have the price of rice and beans and now I see why it's not listed and I should have asked before ordering them with my tacos but I never imagined paying that much. The carnitas was better than previous experiences but still not very good. The shredded beef was ok and so was the carne asada. Not authentic tho. The corn tortillas always were made fresh before and these are no longer homemade. Seriously how do you expect your reg customers to come back when you're charging more for less. The burrito that used to be $14 is now $19. $5 increase for nothing special. They had chips and salsa this time. A meal for 2 for $40 with no drinks is absurd. Go to Mazatlon instead....The owner set back snd watched her lone waitress running her butt off obviously very new to waitressing and never once jumped in to help. Oh and make sure you get your chips and salsa which is included with your meal. Hubby and I were told of this restaurant by the nice man at the hotel. We chose this restaurant because it was less than a mile away (aka walking distance) and it's actually two restaurants in one. One side is a Mexican restaurant and the other is a steakhouse. I'll review this restaurant first and then go after the other. The night we dined here there was a private party in one side of the restaurant (not sure which side was which - no real sign of any sort) so the girl who seated us gave us a menu from each restaurant. From the looks of things they share a kitchen and the duel menus may have been common. Funny thing was that when I asked the girl about specific Mexican dishes she really had no idea. But clearly knowing she was out of her element, she sent us Juan. Now, Juan knew everything about the Mexican food and gave us exceptional service. Honestly, we've had good service in many places, but he was in the top 1% of servers. After chatting with him a bit about the dishes that sounded interesting, he asked me some questions about what type of foods I liked and made his suggestion: the chili verde. Being a fan of Chili Colorado too, I went for the #18 - half and half. Juan was spot on about every comment he made with regard to the food. He brought chips and salsa. but when he found out I liked spicy salsa he brought me one that was better suited to my taste. He asked what kind of tortillas I wanted with my meal and when I said flour (gringa), he suggested I at least try the corn tortilla chips because they were hand made there. The were very tasty, flaky and went well with the meal. As for the dinner, he was right about the chili verde. It was delicious and truly some of the best verde I've eaten. I didn't like the Chili Colorado (which explains why he was less than enthusiastic when I asked about it) and found it to be rather flavorless. The rice was good, as were the refried beans. If you decided to forego the steakhouse and have some Mexican food instead, ask for Juan. He'll listen to what you like and make suggestions accordingly. Service was good at the start, but drastically took a turn for the worse as the food started arriving at the table. I've never been at a restaurant, Little alone a steakhouse and order a steak and not be told that they have no steak sauce until it arrives at the table to be presented to me, not to mention the three different order errors. The waitress had to get the families order correct we ended up having one child sitting at the table waiting for food that we later found out it was never ordered to the kitchen so in my humble opinion, this restaurant is eat at your own risk and confirm your orders if you do and not to mention make sure they have steak sauce before you order two $40 steaks. read more

Mean Lazy waitresses. I sat there without another drink, without the guacamole I ordered, while my waitress (Maria?) Loudly gossiped about the young girl cleaning the tables with another waitress, and bad mouthed their boss. I even held my glass up and shook it, she looked at me rudely and told me she would be right there and then continued to rant with her coworker. Finally the busser girl refilled my drink. It's really poor service to make customers listen to you gripe about your job, especially when ignoring them to do so. She made me wait forever for my check and then smacked it down. This is a classic, friendly Mexican-American place. The food is decent, service is mostly good, and the setting is casual American diner. I found the food bland, even the suggested chile verde was so mild that the flavor of the green chiles was low-key. The salad was a classic American lettuce-tomato-cucumber mix with ranch dressing, it came quickly, and so did my dinner. As nice as the staff are, no one ever refilled my water glass, or checked to see how I liked things before I was finished. Walking in, the ambiance is spot on. Friendly staff. Cute little what I assume mom and pop stop :). Chips and Salsa were immediatly offered. Salsa was excellent with mild spice, chips were more than likely from a store bought bag and put under a heat lamp. I ordered flautas which was served with beans and rice. I was super stoked to see it it smothered in guacamole. Super sad upon my first bite that my tortilla was under cooked and the guacamole was not freshly made either. I added on a chicken taco, because that is my go to for Mexican food. Fairly certain that my chicken was canned but put into a marinade for its flavor. My husband got the taco salad. It was pretty naked. All in all, if you are looking for and authentic dining experience, I would try possibly the place down the street. read more
