It's wonderful to see dining of this caliber available in Elephant Butte. We stopped by the Club Restaurant at Turtleback after seeing the menu online, and we enjoyed a wonderful meal there, from the veg portabella to the pork dish, and the chile-topped cheesecake was tasty as well. Service was a little unenthusiastic, but overall it's a lovely setting, with a patio terrace overlooking the golf course and showing off the gorgeous mountain views (and you don't have to be a club member to enjoy dining there). read more

I've been back in town visiting family and I have had three meals and a lunch here. The pork loin was amazing. I was here for their Super Bowl party and the buffet was great. Last summer under the new management I also had the Ahi Tuna (yes, in the desert) and it was fabulous. Salads I've had were wonderful and today I had a quick bowl of chili. The chili was a good temperature. Not too hot, it wasn't nuked. The seasoning is great and thick, the way chili should be. I've spent time on the deck, in the dining room and in the tap room. The service has been excellent. The staff is pleasant, attentive and know the menu as well as their jobs. The decor is continuing to be updated and there are new tables, new paint and new decor. I really hope the word get out about this great dining, snacking, golfing experience. I'll follow up again this coming summer. I can't wait to see you again. read more

After a dinner on the deck last Friday, which was dry buffalo chicken wings, I returned today for a leisurely lunch - namely a good sandwich. Which was also quite dry. The young female server brought no menu, no setup, no water to the table. She was a unsure about whether they carried Coke products. She brought my Pepsi on request, set it down, took about two minutes to get a straw I had to request & then a napkin I had to request separately. The glass was filled to the brim & had no ice tho I asked for "not too much ice." She did not bring any salt for the fries, (nor was any offered for the wings last week.) The wait for her return got marginally longer each time she left the table. She did not return to ask if the meal was ok, if I needed anything, & was gone a good while while I simply abandoned my quest for salt. And ice for the soda. She hovered closely at my elbow when dropping off the bill & as I fumbled to put the sandwich into the take-out, get into my purse, and pack up my writing pad & pen, she just stood there asking if I knew if it would be cash or charge. Either way I planned to pay, so this breathless monitoring did not help. I asked her to give a me chance to put things together - & a bit of space, so she left for about five minutes, actually until I stood up & readied to leave. Some training is in order for this server & some basic courtesy plus people skills might also be helpful. I have experienced far better service there but not sure what is happening lately. Why is the food dry? Why no condiments? Why no contact at all from beginning of meal to end? Usually the server will cruise by to ask if anything else needed. I know this to be a better eatery. The staff was kind, fun and personable. The course had a torment the day I was there and everything seemed to be well managed. I was able to start 30 minutes before my tee time on a holiday weekend which I appreciated. The course was is great shape. The views, elevation change and wildlife really make it extra special. I was craving lunch by the end of the front 9. Hoping for a quick grab and go (hotdog or cheeseburger). These didn't seem like options when I went up to the bar to order. I would have liked options for grab and go snacks in-between my round. Either way, I will certainly be back and I'm looking forward to it. read more

Loved it! This will be a short review, I am going to go back again ASAP! The gentleman with the beard is awesome! He gave us the lowdown on the whole place. We went to go to the driving range and the balls were not expensive at all. Sometimes you walk into a clubhouse and wonder if you might get some disapproving looks because you might not be at your best fashion-wise, ( we just came from the beach) but here everyone was very kind. The driving range was really fun! So definitely grab some clubs or maybe just your driver and go there! It's worth the time:) read more

I usually head down to the butte to hang out and fish but this time I went down with a group of buddies to play golf... yes, I drove all that way to golf. The course was in great shape, the greens were fast and they had some really great holes. It was my first time here and I had a great time. Some of the holes were truly beautiful. The staff was also very nice and helpful. I ordered a green chile cheeseburger after the round and it was pretty good but not spectacular. The bun was grilled but still a little cold, the patty was a good size but a tad on the dry side and the green chile was not spicy. But they did let me order half fries, half onion rings, I'll give them some points for that. The restaurant is only open for breakfast on either Saturday or Sunday, I can't remember. If you're traveling there from out of town and you have a morning tee time, make sure you eat at home first or give yourself plenty of time to eat at a nearby restaurant. I had to take off a star for not being open for breakfast and another star for the so so food, but I put a star back on for the awesome staff. If you're tired of golfing in the Albuquerque metro area and are willing to drive two hours each way to to get a change of scenery, I'd definitely recommend this course. One more thing, if you're not familiar with the Elephant Butte area, make sure you use your gps to get here, it is definitely not right off of the highway. read more

I had high hopes for such a gorgeous location overlooking the golf course. We showed up visiting from Colorado and asked to be seated on the patio section. A smaller table of 4, looking for a delicious dinner... The dinner menu was loaded full of 18-40 menu items. We asked if they offered any other options as some had dietary restrictions but were told that only the dinner menu was offered on the patio- after all "they had an appearance to upkeep." I work in the food service industry- all the food is exported from the SAME KITCHEN. If Bill Gates were to appear would you have told him to move inside to keep the same appearance?? However, the bar area offered fried foods, loaded fries, barrel tots, burgers, and other discounted happy hour menu items. We ordered nachos with beef, barrel tots, hot wings, ceasar salads, a burger and wings. (Less "fancy" food items) The wings came out questionable- very little sauce, a pale pink/tan exterior- I refused to eat them. The nachos were severely lacking- the beef we ordered was not there((the waitress corrected this after allowing them to sit for 5 minutes))the cheese is straight out of a can and chips stale. The barrel tots were still frozen in the middle and the salads had very minimal dressing. The fries while fresh cut- were soggy and had an uneven appearance from being fried. The waitresses were however so very pleasant! They apologized profusely for something THEY HAD ZERO CONTROL OVER. I can honestly when visiting again we will never be back- the food is well over priced and not worth a single penny. If this is how the "cheap bar food" is presented I feel so sorry for those sitting in The "fine dining" area we were not allowed to order from. read more

Food was meh. I ordered the pasta with shrimp and scallops. It was flavorless and they were out of bread. If a customer asks for something they were supposed to receive, I am all for making up for it by either discounting the meal or offering something else in its place (a free coke, maybe?) The waitress just said, "Oh, we are out of bread. Haha!" My family ordered a ton of other things on the menu. I will say that the red chile ribs were cooked well and were very tender. Everything else lacked flavor and my family was less than amused with paying so much for such a lackluster meal. The view is awesome. I love the huge patio overlooking the golf course. I would like to thank the owners, Jeanine, most especially, for being a wonderful hostess and providing the most accommodating services to our huge family during the week of Thursday and Friday August 5th and 6th. It is a perfect open air and enclosed venue with excellent service food AND a full service bar with my favorite, Topo Chico Hard Seltzers! We had a wonderful semi-family reunion with 11 people in our party and we are a diverse group that are not always that easy to please! We enjoyed great entertainment both nights with Bill's Karaoke on Thursday and on Friday, local legend, el maestro, Tudy Romero and his iconic Silver Bullet Band. One of my favorite places to relax and enjoy conversation with friends is at the SDR golf course restaurant. The back deck has the best view in town facing Turtleback Mountain. And for those virus conscious, there is usually a nice breeze and spacious seating. Recently, friends and I enjoyed a live performance on a cooler evening. Skivi performed many songs from my earlier years. I had the Chicken Caesar salad, but the Brisket is one of my favorites. So, when visiting Elephant Butte Lake State Park or Truth or Consequences hot baths, make time for a relaxing meal at the golf course. read more

So disappointed in the restaurant here!! The food was way overpriced for what you received. The service was terrible. Our waitress showed up, and never came back. We ordered drinks and an appetizer...our drinks arrived, 40 minutes later our appetizer arrived. We were there for dinner on a Friday night, and never made it to dinner because the drinks were terrible and the appetizer was small and overpriced, and our servers were somewhere but, failed to show up. The experience was just terrible!! Hopefully the golfing experience is good, cause the rest is just not good. We have tried their restaurant 3 times, and we won't be back again...ever. After driving around and looking for a place to eat, we stopped here as the bar was well kept and clean. Our bartender gave us menus and asked what we would like to drink. I asked for a Blue Moon beer and my husband got a Stella Artois. Both beers had significant heads on them so losing a good portion out of our pint glasses. We wanted to order chicken wings but they were out. We then ordered onion rings. For the $6 they charge we expected hand battered and a lot of them. What we got was pathetic. Obviously previously frozen and only about a dozen total. Never once did our bartender ask us if we like the food or if she could get us another round until it was obvious we were ready to leave. She was busy chatting with some guy who was flirting with her. She stated to him how she hated her job. Well that much was obvious in the lack of service. I realize the T or C area doesn't offer much in good food but do yourself a favor and avoid this place completely. I took my family of 6 to the restaurant at the golf course for a quick lunch and it was delicious. We had the best green chile philly sandwiches amd the nachos were huge! The restaurant and full bar was very clean and the staff is friendly. Beautiful views of the mountains and golf course cant be beat. read more

First time here from out of town and I have mixed feelings. Ignored in the golf shop while 2 workers just chatted. Finally, able to pay, only to be told we'd have to wait another 30 min. Play was EXTREMELY slow and backed up. Took over 4 hours to play 13 holes! Ended up quitting due to time, definitely did not get our money's worth for the price we paid. Only saw beverage cart once, as she sat at the hole rather than drive around. (Saw her at one hole in front nine and she passed us on back nine without stopping or acknowledging us.) Everyone on course was complaining of the wait time. No Marshall on course to keep things moving. Course was nice and challenging but was not able to enjoy it due to more waiting than playing. Big disappointment after hearing good reviews about it. read more

I cannot write a review for the golfing here, although the golf course is beautifully appointed in a lovely and scenic location. The landscaping is superb and they have kept the desert setting and enhanced it in subtle ways that please the eye. There all homes for sale on the property and the whole operation is called "Turtleback Mountain Resort". Overall the resort has had a welcoming atmosphere for local residents as well as vistors. I have spent quite a bit of time in the restaurant and their bar as it is one of the few classy places to eat or drink in the whole area. The restaurant they call "The Club" and has an inside and a nice big patio with a great view of the whole course. The bar is called "The Brassie Bar". The food is spotty in the bar...some dishes, like their fish fry, are delicious but some are either greasy, over or under cooked or seems to show a lack of culinary talent. For example I ordered a sirloin steak , open-faced sandwich and asked for it "medium well". I got a very rare and bleeding steak. I felt compelled to send it back as I cannot eat meat that raw and it came back in about 2 minutes.....the cook had micro-waved it !!!!!!! I guess he was pissed off I sent it back and decided to ruin it completely. It was done but tough of course. Next visit I ordered a fancy hot dog while I was in the bar and the bun came hard as a rock, had been micro-waved too I could tell and all the moisiture was gone out of it. Also quite a few times I have been there a group of very noisy, rude old men hang out in the bar and dominate the place and set a very unpleasant atmosphere there. That said, In the warmer months eating on their back patio is a wonderful experience and their brunches are good. Sometimes they have live music on the patio and that is nice too. read more
