We ate about the same time as Katy reviewed this restaurant and I actually wanted to wait a day before writing a review to ensure we didn't get sick and I don't usually write negative reviews but on top of the sewage smell there was no HOT/WARM water in the men's bathroom to wash your hands. I tried all three faucets in all directions and let it run but nothing warm would come out. The food was typical Mexican fare and we had to wait to be seated because it was busy but the waitress was very good and food came out in a reasonable time but I actually googled to see if hot water is required in New Mexico since it was our first stop in the state. Maybe the locals don't mind but I guess I'm snobbish in that requirement!! read more

The food was amazing!!! One of the best chile rellenos I've ever had, and I'm very picky about my rellenos. The a la carte compeusta was huge and delicious, the chile wasn't very hot but it was sooo flavorful! Also, the service was amazing, the servers were super fast and polite. All around amazing and you can't beat the price. If you find yourself in T or C, do yourself a favor and stop here. read more

Maybe a 3.75, almost a 4. Nice setting, good service. We ate on the patio it being a pleasant 70 degrees outside. For the first time ever I saw enchiladas on a menu served stacked, not rolled. It was nothing I was used to but I was happy for the experience. The portion was perfect at a fair price. It was clearly fresh and full of flavor. Unfortunately the taste was just not for my palate. So be it. I am sure it works for others. I am guessing you will at least agree that it is different than what you typically expect. If I had to guess, I'd say the sauce was a bit tart. The heat was mild. The cheese was just right. The accompanying chips and salsa were quite nice - a mix of blue, red and white corn. I was disappointed with the food's flavor. The special was a fish and chips type platter which I ordered and the fish was very bland in tasting. The fries were nothing to write home about as well. Our waitress was an older lady who really worked hard in taking care of us, however one of our group should have been asked if onions were desired in an order and she was not asked causing her to return her plate when it arrived loaded with onions. It seems the place has gone downhill (no pun intended because they're up on a hill) so I'll be making other choices for restaurants. read more

My daughter took me to La Cocina in T or C for Mother's Day dinner. The food was OK but luke warm and had to wait over an hour to be served. Service was very lax and unfoced. The prices were passable for today. I would not go back there or recommed this place on my experience. read more

As the sands of time passed through our hands, we waited and waited for our meal....is it 2020 yet? Well the original plan was to stop in T Or C to eat at Los Arcos but they don't open until 5 pm. We we're hungry so we drove into this place off I-25. The place is aesthetically pleasing with its Hunter slash western look. From there the positives end, the wait staff though pleasant had no sense of urgency and or customer service. We sat idle for a while before our order was taken. The complimentary chips and salsa were fresh and tasty. As you can see the trend, these were all eaten quick as we waiting for our meal which seemed to be brought in from Socorro New Mexico. My son's burger was really good in his words. My wife had huevos rancheros were not good..the word awful surfaced seemed like they were microwaved. As you can see by the steak, it was overcooked and flavorless. The cheese also no true flavor and vegggies seemed like microwaved. We made the mistake of ordering dessert which took a long time, at the ten minute mark we stood up and left. This was not a good experience at all and you can fix taste not customer service. 2 thumbs down apologies other than the salsa and kid burger, no other highlights. Get this the cost was $55 and we were still charged for dessert that we didn't eat so I had to go back to get reimbursed. If your a local, I get it if you are driving by, keep looking somewhere else. read more

Food was damn good!! Went at 5pm on a Monday, I got tamales, husband got tacos, we were very surprised! First, the salsa at the table was probably the best salsa from a restaurant we've ever had. We actually bought a pint to take home. Second, the refried beans that came with our dishes were excellent. The rice was fine. My tamales were wonderful! Had I not stuffed myself, I would have eaten 3 more! Tacos were great as well! The restaurant itself was nice, nice atmosphere and decor. Prices were very reasonable, drinks were cheap. One annoying thing was of the 6 draft beers they had, they were out of 4 and not replaced with anything. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised and would absolutely return if we were not just driving through from out of town. We had just happened to end up here coming back from hatch. Glad we did! If mild store bought salsa is too hot for you, skip the chili sauce. I ordered the three tamales with a side of red chili (since heat is subjective ) and the tamales were divine while the sauce delivered a little kick at the end and a warm belly - well at least the first few bites (explanation later). My wife on the other hand ordered cheese enchiladas smothered with the green chili (mild) but she couldn't touch it after the second bite. Since I hadn't smothered mine yet, I sacrificed my meal and ate gluten wrapped smothered cheese instead - It's not the restaurants fault that my wife ordered hers smothered after all. The green chili was equally good while delivering a much milder, but tangy heat. The food I ordered was great, but since I'm not terribly big on flour tortilla cheese enchiladas I can't say for sure if the enchiladas were the bomb. [EDIT] In light of another posters review that this isn't "Fine Dining" perhaps some perspective. This establishment is my idea of Southwest fine dining especially between nowhere and nowhere. This establishment was open on a Sunday evening two days before Christmas, on my Southwest American road-trip. This establishment most certainly relies on travelers and offers menu choices more suitable for younger ones up to teens that aren't in the "mood" for spicy Mexican food. I went there a few times, sometimes it is ok sometimes not so. This time the food was NOT cooked properly. Mine was over cooked and my friends under cooked. This place is to expensive for the quality of cooked food they serve. But I have to say, the waitress was very friendly and tryed her best to make it right. My son got the 3 taco special and I got 3 enchiladas stacked with green. The tacos were good but it is difficult to make a bad taco. My son enjoyed the tacos and the rice. The enchiladas were huge but the chile was bland and room temperature. I would expect a restaurant in the heart of chile country to have chile that would be memorable. The green chile was not. We've been here before and been very pleased all around. Three couples made reservations on a Thursday evening at 6:30. Thinking, no problem. The waitress was very busy as were the rest of the wait staff it seemed. We waited for about 15 minutes for our drink order the same wth the same for the food order. When we received the food most of it was cold. Not sure what the problem was. We have been very pleased all the other times but disappointed especially because we brought someone who had never been there. We had bragged about the food and the service. My husband and I were on the road for a while. It had been a long time since we had seen a place where we could stop and eat. The two of us just about had our fill of Subway salads and Gas Station coffee at this point. Basically, we were totally desperate. From the moment we walked in, it was apparent that La Cocina didn't invest a ton in a coherent decorating 'scheme'. Unpleasant to the eye...that's the best way I can describe it. Everything looked dusty and disheveled. (This includes the employees.) The service was EXTREMELY, PAINSTAKINGLY slow. There really was no reason for it because...not many folk were in there. It's not like they were 'slammed' or anything. The good part was our waitress wasn't rude or dismissive. She was quick with the refills on iced tea, stale chips and awful salsa. (I'm adding one star for her sake) But, there comes a point where you just want to eat the meal you ordered...before you forget WHAT you ordered! MY TWO CENTS: La Cocina claims that their salsa is homemade. Let me give you their secret recipe: The cook grabs a bottle of El Paso salsa, chops up some whitish looking tomatoes, tosses it in there and...wha-la! 'home-made' salsa is born. Blech. La Cocina, you guys can't fool my taste buds. I'm onto your 'home-made' salsa sham. My husband and I ordered a healthier version of their chicken salad. It was a tad better than a Subway salad but...not by much. The beans were decent. Yippie. All in all, I wouldn't recommend this place. I remember how great this place used to be. I used to walk there before I could drive just for the sopa-pillows when it was on third and date streets. When they opened their new location it was exciting and the food was great. I have been there twice in 2010 when I go back home. Both times were very disappointing. The last time was December 29th and the food took forever to come out. It had to be at least 35 minutes. When it came out it was all cold and we had to send two entrees back because they were cooked incorrectly. My compuesta was cold and the sopapilla seemed to be stale. When we wanted to leave we could not find our server or any employee anywhere. There was only us and one other table there. We eventually left cash on the table for what we thought would cover the tab and walked out. The one positive thing is that this meal was allot better than the last time I came. All I can say is that I won't be going back and that really hurts because this was once one of my favorite places to go. read more

My wife and I tried this place, and it was awful. The chili is more like tomato sauce, both the red and green chile were not even spicy at all. My wife ordered the chicken enchiladas, and they gave her ground chicken! She took two bites and left the rest on her plate. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs.
