2 1/2 stars may be more appropriate but, is not an option. Dropped to 2 because there was more negative than positive. Very slow, inattentive service. Initial drinks took at least 20 minutes and place was not crowded. No cocktail menu, no dessert menu. 4 people, two were served entree several minutes after first two were served. Saw a picture of mussels on line and ordered based on how they looked. Real thing was a third of the portion, over priced as such, and with no bread for sopping up sauce. Veal was 3 very thin slices swimming in sauce w/ fingerlings. Carbonarra was dry and skimpy. Sole smaller than I'm used to but, done nicely. Remodel is very nice. However, restaurant replaced the Silver Spoon (which is now @ a mile down the road). My advice is to seek out the new location of Silver Spoon instead - you'll thank me later. read more

Do you not eat here! They ruin my wedding night! I had a small Covid safe wedding ceremony with 10 people. Had a dinner reservation at this establishment afterwards. The inside part was packed with people eating inside at tables and the bar was packed. We showed up in tuxedos and formal dresses. They had no recollection of my reservation. There are several staff members without masks on. A man without a mask got in my face and was yelling at me. I was called baby girl by another staff member. My children were crying. They were astounded by the way I was spoke to at the restaurant in my wedding dress. They finally set a table up for us in the tent which we had requested. ZERO STARS!!!! LaCollina was HORRENDOUS! A group of friends out to celebrate three birthdays .... What a disappointment!!! In a nut shell: · The service was UNSAFE and APPALLING! · NONE of the staff wore proper face masks (they were sporting plastic face shields only - sometimes and sometimes not) · Expensive for the SUBPAR food received · The restroom was unusable · Will not recommend or ever return The details - sorry it's a long read, but it has to be said. There was so much wrong!!! Our server was terrible! (I don't know his name ... he never introduced himself.) We had to flag him down to ask for everything - from ordering drinks, appetizers and salads to ordering dinner and requesting more water; which we had to do multiple times. Finally, we were able to order and then we waited. Our main entrees took about an hour to appear. Needless to say, I was very hungry by this time and super excited to see some food. I ordered the Cavatelli ai Funghi Selvatici (Wild Mushroom Ragout) for $22. It was very underwhelming and not worth the money. There were less than 10 pieces of thinly sliced mushrooms hidden in the bowl of pasta and the taste, at best, was fair. Nothing to write home about, that's for sure. Our server NEVER came back to check if everything was ok, if anyone would like freshly grated Parmesan cheese on their dish or more water or another drink perhaps? After we finished eating we had to flag our server down and ask him to bring out the cake one of the ladies made for our three birthday guests. (She also brought individual ice cream cups to go with the cake - more on that later.) She did not bring candles due to the whole Coronavirus thing - Good idea ... probably shouldn't be blowing on a cake that everyone is going to eat, just sayin! Well, our server brought out the beautiful triple layer chocolate cake with candles and he lit them. Some of us had a very brief discussion about the candles - what to do ... should we try and "fan" them out with our hands? It was decided that one of the vaccinated birthday girls would blow out the candles. She blew out all but one and before she could get that last one out, our waiter picked up the cake and BLEW OUT THE LAST CANDLE HIMSELF! Thank goodness he was only wearing a plastic face shield with no mask or he would have never been able to get it extinguished. WHAT?!?!?! Are you kidding me?!?!!! Has he not heard of this mysterious virus that has sickened and killed a whole lot of people?!?! But you can rest easy; because he told us it is against the Food Code to serve the individually wrapped ice cream cups. Thank goodness he is looking out for our safety! Just some other tidbits: The toilet wouldn't flush. We reported this to our server who knew immediately what the problem was; he commented that the "chain thing fell off again" or something like that. So, this is a known problem. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that this issue had just started that evening - who knows! An employee from the back went in to fix it and it broke again. All of the ladies I have spoken with, were not happy with the dining experience we had last night. A couple of the others have reviewed our outing at LaCollina on Yelp and Google. The owner's response to the Google review was interesting and very un-customer focused. The response was: "Not sure why you say food was mediocre when you finished every single drop of it on your plate. We accommodated your cake request but we cannot accommodate you bringing ice cream since it's not recommended by health department. Hope to see you again, at least you liked the live entertainment. And you're correct stat does not wear masks, we wear face shields." Hummmm ... I wonder what the Health Department's stance is on restaurant employees blowing on your food. I did look up the State of Michigan's Orders and Directives for gatherings and face masks. I was 99.999% pretty sure the plastic face shield is not an appropriate face covering. Maybe the owner will read my review and do something about the improper face coverings his staff is occasionally wearing - or not. Ok, so Rochester has been in desperate need of a great restaurant. We found it tonight. I have grown up eating the best Italian food around Metro Detroit, and hands down this place ranks high! Their service was beyond excellent. The food was amazing. I would suggest the tableside cesar salad, lamb chops, and seafood risotto. There is truly a heart and soul put into the atmosphere and the food. We walked away with a desire to come back for more. I was so excited to order DoorDash from La Collina for my mother-in-law's birthday today. However, 15 minutes before the order was supposed to arrive, DoorDash sends us a message that the restaurant is closed with a picture of a sign showing closed 9/15/2020 (though today is 9/16/2020). I called La Collina but no one picked up. I'm not sure if DoorDash is to blame as well, but you should not be accepting orders online if you are closed. This is hands down my favorite Italian restaurant! It's so authentic from its warm welcoming ambiance due to the little details like the chandelier above the bar made to match the artwork on the wall to the beautiful wallpaper! Then the food starts to arrive! The warm toasted bread with the eggplant medley to die for! My favorite appetizer the calamari which makes me want to order a second! The chicken limone oh my goodness! The flavors just explode in my mouth! The salmon pasta to die for! The salmon is so soft it's like cutting into butter! Then finally my favorite part of a meal...desert! The creme brûlée is the most amazing I've had! It's usually my go to desert and this place just took it to another level! My husband and I dined at La Collina on a Thursday evening and we were graciously welcomed. The decor and ambiance is warm and elegant. The staff provided us with a complimentary bruschetta and it was followed by an eggplant appetizer with ricotta cheese. It was outstanding, flavourful and served fresh from the kitchen hot which we enjoyed. The table side prepared Caesar salad was outstanding. We had pasta dishes, shrimp with a white wine sauce and the other dish was an outstanding mushroom sauce. In all, our dining experience was wonderful.The wait staff and management team were knowledgeable and appreciated our patronage. I highly recommend this "dining jewel" in Rochester if you are looking for superb Italian food in a great atmosphere. Had dinner at La Collina tonight. It opened a couple weeks ago and is located in the Papa Joes plaza at the former Silver Spoon restaurant. They updated the restaurant and it looks fantastic. Very modern and more open. The dinner was delicious. I ordered the Zuppa La Collina. Delicate flavor and delicious. My friend ordered the carbonara and she loved it. Great experience. Being Italian I often struggle to find an Italian Restaurant that lives up to the authentic Italian home cooked meals that I am used to, well guess what, I believe that I have found it here at La Collina. Walking in to the restaurant while I immediately noticed that Claudio Baglioni was playing, if you are a true Italian, you will know of him. The restaurant was pleasantly cozy and intimate. The wait staff could not have been more friendly, courteous and most of all knowledgeable of the food and wine. The menu was not a typical Italian restaurant menu, it had certain dishes very difficult to find in Italian restaurants, this too was one of the reasons I chose this restaurant. The food was impeccable, leaving me wanting more of it and wondering how my next dish was going to taste. Starting from appetizer to the dessert I was unbelievably pleased, I sincerely felt that I was back in my home of L'Aquila, Italy. I met the owner, practically all of the hard working wait staff and I cannot stress enough at how hospitable they were and knowledgeable about Italian food. The end of dinner was not only capped off by sitting with the owner and enjoying a Limoncello together, but also dancing with my beautiful wife while listening to Roberto Murolo which I had requested that they play for us, and that they did. Wonderful evening, I cannot Thank them enough for truly making it a special evening for us in every way. We visited La Collina last night for the 1st time to celebrate my birthday. I had multiple places that I could have chosen and my family chose La Collina. We were not disappointed with our decision and very pleased with the way they adapted to the COVID restrictions. The outside dining was very nice and comfortable and the service was excellent. I have eaten at restaurants around the world and I come from an very large Italian family and can say that La Collina's food is right up there at the top. Everyone at our table had nothing left on their plates and they kept saying how great their dinner was. Good wine , great people and a nice atmosphere made this a fantastic birthday dinner. I will be back for sure and I have already told some friends and family that they need to make a reservation and enjoy some great food! If you get the chance, ask for Blendi!
