I have mixed feelings. On one hand, the space itself is lovely and bright, with plenty of seating, and a great location. Someone in another review commented about it being loud due to the blue line above, but personally I couldn't tell. (I live and work very close to train lines though, so maybe I'm just used to them.) My order was pretty good. Not the best I've ever had in my life, but well above average. Staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. On the other hand... well, maybe it's just me, but I'm visual person. I like to read menus and SEE things and make decisions based on that. I'm not a people-person and I don't really prefer to chit-chat to find out my options, so I don't enjoy the lack of an actual menu. Also, I'm not rolling in cash and sometimes I'm really spending my last few bucks to get out of the house and relax, so I like prices to be obvious. That's obviously more of a personal preference than an actual complaint though. Overall, I really liked the place, my coffee was good, price was reasonable, friendly people. Won't be a regular hangout for me, but definitely worth popping in once in a while. read more

An awesome addition to our neighborhood with a perfect location right by the Blue Line. Kate is a great barista who is super nice and makes a delicious cappucino. Very affordable, too. One complaint is they don't have wifi, which isn't just this location but all locations. They want the focus to be on the coffee. That's fine and I respect that, but why have all the seating? I would estimate there are 40 seats in here. Why? You can't come here and do work. If they want the focus to be coffee just make it a smaller coffee bar that you pop into for a cup. Maybe my favorite coffee in Chicago, but I've loved La Colombe since before I even lived here. Kind and unpretentious baristas. Your medium Americano can have either two shots or four, with no difference in price (which is basically a steal at $3). What a great location! Happy to know that there's one right next to the blue line. I had their coffee for the first time a week ago at their Randolph street location, but I'm glad that I don't have to make the trek over there to get one of the most amazing cups of coffee. This place runs neck and neck, to me, with SF's Blue Bottle Coffee. The coffee has an incredibly smooth finish without any bitterness. A big plus, is that they carry desserts from Floriole!! I had a most delicious Basque gateau (a dense almond cake with some berries) with my coffee as my friend and I ended our Christmas Eve shopping. A nice treat before we headed home. I LOVE la Colombe coffee! Seriously so good. At all the other locations there are super sweet and helpful workers. However, with that being said, this location has some rude workers. Not all of them, but one particular employee was so rude to me. I had gone to the la Colombe in uptown/andseronville area and asked what could be similar to a skim milk vanilla latte. He told me they didn't have vanilla but they would add something (can't remember what it was) and it would be sweeter. So nice and helpful. When I asked the employee at the wicker park location the exact same question, since I couldn't remember what he had added, she said in the most condescending voice "we don't have sweeteners". Like it threw me off guard so much! It's so strange when employees are rude like that. I'm very torn about Colombe. It's obviously some kind of chain, so I resisted going here for a while because I'm pretty loyal to Wormhole. Eventually I gave in due to their convenient location, and I can always find an excuse to drink a little more coffee. When I say that I'm torn, I really mean it. I would happily give them five stars for their treats from Floriole (the basque cake is amazing). Some people on Yelp have complained about the lack of Wi-Fi, but I don't mind at all. Even when it gets crowded, people tend to move on a little more quickly. This makes it more likely that you can find a table to sit and read a book at. Remember books? There are plenty of places in the neighborhood to get your important Facebook work done at, but honestly I'm glad that there will not be some self-important man on a "business Skype" call yelling at his computer next to me. The decor is nice, in that "contrived chain store quaint" kind of way. The coffee drinks are nicely done, though the coffee itself sways toward the dark / burnt side. Again, I'm split on the staff, embarrassingly right down the gender line. The women who work here are all friendly and amazing. The men have a kind of weird vibe. Remember several years back when suburbanites would criticize local businesses on Yelp for being "too cool" for them? It was all in their heads, obviously - people coming into the neighborhood with a chip on their shoulder. The guys who work here seem like they are aiming for that approach. Literally they do not make eye contact or acknowledge you walking into the store or standing at the register. I'm not the kind of person who likes to be babied and pampered by staff, but it feels like a contrived slacker approach to intentionally ignore you, then not make eye contact (looking cooly at the wall) when they ask what you want. The oat milk draft latte is probably the best latte I've ever had. I love that they use unsweetened oat milk. I love vegan lattes, but they usually use sweetened milk substitute. I'm usually choosing between the high(ish) sugar content of almond milk lattes and the richness of dairy lattes. This was creamy and delicious, and I got to sweeten it perfectly to my taste. Was meeting a friend in Wicker to do a little sunday window shopping and get sushi, and she suggested we meet at La Colombe since it's right under the blue line stop. I've actually never noticed it before, but now that I've popped in, I definitely will be visiting again. There doesn't seem to be a menu up anywhere, although they had a small sign by the registers with a couple brews they currently has and two different espressos. The staff seems friendly and unpretentious (which is great since coffee spots in Wicker tend to run the complete opposite). I got a cup of black and posted up by the bar to wait for my friend. They serve the coffee in really cute blue patterned china and refills are only 50 cents! I'm usually not a huge coffee drinker, but I can definitely see myself coming here on the weekend w a book and curling up at one of their corner tables. Will be back! read more

Lived in Wicker Park for 5 years prior to moving to LA, and it seems like a bit of a travesty that this place came around after I left. I've had my share of draft coffee in LA, but this latte is something else entirely. The draft latte comes in 1 size only. It's a little frothy, already a little sweet, almost milk shake-like and just so delicious. Went there 4 out of the 7 days of my trip. I've been coming to this location regularly since I moved to the neighborhood a little over two years ago. Everyone who works here is friendly, helpful, and patient. My coffee, tea, and pastries have always been consistently great. There is always plenty of seating and I am really thankful that we can get such great coffee right next to the CTA. As for no wifi, it has grown on me. I'd take good conversation, either with other patrons or any member of the fantastic staff, over another hour on my computer. This place is so cozy and the coffee is great! The baristas are friendly and helpful. I got an iced latte with oat milk and it was smooth and creamy. I would highly recommend trying it even in this cold weather. They have enough tables for a good amount of people to sit or work at so I also enjoyed studying here. My favorite part of their menu was the fact that they have two different espresso roasts! You can choose from the two to make your espresso drink lighter/ darker/ include different notes. I am not a big coffee fan but I love the show Dangerous Grounds and have wanted to try what they call is the best. We had to go to Gurnee for an appointment so we made the extra trip to Chicago to try this. So amazing. I dont know the girls name who helped us but she let us try samples and I ended up with Ethiopian Sidamo. Fruity, smooth and not butter. She brewed it with the steam punk machine and it was great. I bought 2 bags of coffee for gifts but I really shouldve bought a bag for myself. Excellent customer service. Great coffee. Will order more and go again if we're in the area. I went here for the first time today. Cute place near the Damen blue line stop. I was looking to order a flavored latte and the barista recommended a latte flavored with cocoa and sweetened cream. I ordered a vanilla biscotti to go with the latte-a delicious combination! Beside the couple arguing next to me, the place was quiet with a few people working on laptops. I couldn't get the WiFi to work (not sure they have it?) The decor is open, bright, & natural with wooden tables and benches. I don't get these "gourmet" coffee bars. They clearly have to compete with so many other coffee options around all corners in Wicker Park, but yet still continue to offer sub-par services. Firstly, there are no prices anywhere. Secondly, they have no flavorings for your iced coffee, but do offer "sweetened condensed milk" - no thank you. Thirdly, I discovered only after paying $7 for an iced coffee and a small pastry, that there is NO WIFI. That's a deal breaker for me. No WIFI for a coffee shop in this day and age is a bad business decision. Reconsider WIFI, and I may be back. Until then, I'll continue to enjoy my pricey iced coffee elsewhere, at least some place where I can get online and get some work done at the same time. read more

I was a faithful Colombe coffee patron from the first day they opened their first store in the West Loop. Great coffee, fantastic service, loved pretty much everything about them ESPECIALLY their cold brewed bottled iced coffee which I drank often. I recently went to the Wicker Park shop and was charged $4/bottle (as opposed to the $3 they normally cost). While I understand the need to raise prices - especially with rising costs of coffee beans, but seriously... A 33% increase?!?!? WHAT?!?!? Are they brewing this coffee with gold?!?!?! read more
