Round 2! i felt i was a little too harsh in my first review and have been living in carmel. not only is the food still disgusting and straight from an elementary school lunch room THE STAFF IS NOW TERRIBLE. i feel sorry for the poor saps that stuff their faces with this terrible food but at the same time looking around at the other patrons i was curious as to why they would send their children to school and use government funding to allow them to get free lunch when they are essentially paying for the same meal? kind of an oxymoron.... if you want terrible food and terrible service at government funded prices this is your spot! read more

The only reason I didn't give that last star is because this place is closed on Sundays! Have been coming here for over 30 years! Always order the beef and bean tostada, light lettuce, extra cheese, (that cheese is addictive!), half ranch and half guacamole! Always! I've been here since high school and their food sucks. Bland and no taste. Can you call this Mexican food? Just because it has a slightly orange color to the rice doesn't make it Mexican food. I try not to post bad reviews, because I would rather write about good experiences I've had. I was craving Mexican food after work, and a co-worker recommended La Comida. I wasn't looking for "street taco" authentic food, and had read the reviews prior, so I knew it was the type of place I was looking for. Again, I don't let a few bad reviews deter me, and I really wanted to like this place. My first impression upon entering was that it looked tired. But there were plenty of people there, so I expected the food must be good. I waited in line, like a fast food restaurant to order. A nice girl took my order, and I asked if they had white cheese instead of cheddar. She let me know they didn't. No big deal. I ordered crunchy ground beef taco's with rice and beans. It comes with a "salad." She asked if I wanted salsa and utensils. I had ordered to go. I live down the street and starting unpacking my dinner. I bit into my taco. The shell was super stale, like they buy it off grocery store shelves. My taco meat was so dry it was like it had been under a heat lamp all day, even though I came in at a dinner rush hour. It had absolutely no flavor. Maybe because it was so dried out? The beans were ok, and the rice tasted again, like something you'd find at a grocery store in the instant meal section. She had asked if I wanted salsa. But I assumed it was for the chips I saw all around. My order didn't come with chips, and I assume the salsa is to give any of my dinner some flavor. This is the second time I have been here.in a couple of weeks. The food is not even close to what it used to be. This is the only place we normally have eaten for the last 40 years. No more! I'm done! The people at the counter were very snotty and acted like they were doing us a favor by helping us. Then we sat down and there were two guys sitting behind us and every other word was the "f" word! Now I am no saint but it was so offensive. It was very loud! I went to the counter and asked if a manager could ask them to clean up their mouth and they told me no!!! I was shocked!! This used to be a family restaurant and Mike would not have tolerated it at all!!! I am just thankful I didn't have one of the grandkids with me. This is the mexican food is extremely American. I would rather go to Taco Bell. Their surpreme burrito consists of, beans, cheddar, and ground beef. Its covered in an American enchilada sauce. Theres no hot sauce on the table, there is however a salsa that isnt too bad. The price is quite low and the portions are fairly large. This is not authentic Mexican food. This is not great Mexican food. But for what it is (a sit down Taco Bell w/ extras), it is a Chico legend. From the Texas Taco to the wood panelling, it is what it is...great value, tasty food in a cheesball environment. The salsa in the plastic squirt bottles is genius. read more

Gone here my entire life. Still the same great food. LA COMIDA is one of those places that may not look the best but it is delicious! It is one of the best bangs for your buck in chico. You can get 2 meals for around 8 bucks. This is two full meals that can feed an adult. Not to mention they make their own chips and salsa. La Comida is a tradition in Chico. It's inexpensive, fresh, good food! Get there early if you're going for lunch especially when school is in...it gets crowded quickly! Worth the wait though if you have the time. Definitely have to try the house dressing on a tostada!! Oh, and the salsa is excellent! read more

Fast service, good prices, and pretty good food. The only thing I have a real problem with was the service. I have been coming here for years and it has only gotten worst. There is one young lady who is always smiling and willing to help and doesn't make you feel guilty about not understanding or having a problem. I wish I had asked her name, she has the two tattoo arms which makes her stand out. Good job to her. The others are too busy talking about "going out" and inappropriate topics. They roll their eyes or are just trying to rush you out the door. If there is a hiccup on my food I always see them getting angry or upset.
