it was late sunday evening and i was traveling from petaluma back home to oregon. so i stopped in orland - at the orland inn - and la corona was recommended (among other choices) by the check in clerk. i was greeted and told to sit anywhere. i ordered the vegetarian burrito. this was one of the greatest burritos i have ever eaten!!! it was immense & packed with the usual fare: veggies, beans, rice, guac, and sour cream, what made the memory of this meal was the tortilla. it was so soft and tender, yet able to hold together what felt like a pound of food without breaking. it only came unraveled as i neared the final bites of this hand-held dining experience. i even remarked to the waitress/cashier that this burrito is one of the top 3 i have had the pleasure to devour. and the homemade salsa & chips were just as delightfully fresh and tasty as well. i made a point to write down the name of the restaurant, and give a yelp review upon returning home. after reading the reviews i can see i am not alone in my assessment. and here i was thinking i had found a great little restaurant that could use some well-deserved p.r.! read more

Definitely love coming to La corona. The staff are always friendly and are usually quick to attend you. The restaurant also has a bar so it is definitely a plus and it has it a bit of western feel which isn't bad at all and the vibes you get are still of a Mexican restaurant. They are also very clean and often times are busy. The food is delicious and has not disappointed me yet. read more

La Corona is my family and friends go to Mexican Restaurant in Orland. It is always clean with newly remodeled bathrooms and AC. The staff is wonderful and attends to the customers. Over the years I have had about everything on the menu except for the fish which is not my thing. Never had a bad meal. The fajitas, enchiladas and tacos are always great! Decided to call since I just wanted to run so errands and pick up on the way home. What I ordered: Carne asada nachos - no beans Carne asada quesadilla Carne asada sopes - no beans - suggested by employee when asked for a recommendation The highlight of my purchase was definitely the carne asada quesadilla. As you can see in the photo my sister couldn't wait to let me take the photo before she took some bites. Next the nachos, I enjoyed them but my sister wasn't as impressed ( more nachos for me (: ). Ate from them all day long since they were a big serving. Finally the sopes. Never tried them before so I'm not sure how it should be texture wise. Didn't enjoy the bread part but did eat the topping. Homemade sauce that come in little container. Definitely 10/10 we both enjoyed it. Side note: love the fact they include topping, chips and salsa. It was cold and chips taste like old oil the salsa was cut up all the way like water down tasting too. I had chili Relleno with hardly no cheese in it . Tamale had no taste and sauce pour over it was water down. Was very disappointed. I was told was good food it is not very bland. read more

Was just passing through and stopped by for lunch. This place reminds me of my childhood. These recipes are probably from the 70s or 80s, the owner probably got them from his mother. I don't know if I would make a pilgrimage to this place, but it's pretty decent if you're in the area. read more

We were given tortilla chips and salsa to munch on before our main course, the tortilla chips were fresh and warm, just cooked. We inhaled them, the smiling lady have us another helping. My siblings and I took my mom here for her birthday because it's her favorite place in town. We aren't local to Orland, but are from the Sacramento area - however, my mom lives a mile away from here and goes here often. The food was okay, and the establishment itself was dimly lit and not totally kept up, but the staff were very nice. It was my mom's birthday, so we went here to oblige her, but if any of the rest of us had a choice, we wouldn't go here again. Here's where my gripe comes in. I ordered another item to go, as I wanted to treat my boyfriend, who was waiting back home in Davis. I sent him the menu and he was torn between two choices, so he said his first choice is the nachos panchos. He wanted me to ask if the carne asada was lean or fatty, and if it was lean, then to order that. So I asked, and was told that it was not fatty. I ordered it. The menu says the item is covered in melted cheese. It failed to mention that the "melted cheese" is actually nacho cheese. I didn't think to ask for clarification because we weren't at a baseball game hotdog vendor, we were at a Mexican restaurant. So, I ordered this food item and drove it all the way home (an almost 2 hour drive), only to find that the nachos were completely smothered in nacho cheese. I mean, there was so much nacho cheese, it was like we'd gotten a side of nacho chips to go with the cheese. The meat was even worse. Not only was it not lean at all, it was incredibly gristly. Boyfriend tried to skip over the cheese to eat other parts, but the meat was just awful. We offered it to someone else who doesn't mind fatty meat, and even he couldn't eat it. It was inedible. I would give it 1 star based on the food alone, but am giving it 2 for the friendly staff. read more

Very disappointing. Chips, and therefore my taco salad shell, tasted like they had been fried in very old oil. The beans here are so amazing. Lol, they were supposed to be the side dish on my friends tamale meal, but he didn't get many of them... All of the food was truly homemade and truly delicious. Seems as though La Corona has slipped a bit. The wait staff isn't as friendly or knowledgeable as they were pre-pandemic and the food isn't as good as it used to be. I was served a beer that wasn't cold and almost flat. Bathrooms were filthy. This used to be our go-to Mexican food place, since we are locals, but not anymore. We're going to go elsewhere when we get a craving for something south of the boarder. So sorry La Corona. Nice knowing you....Adios!! read more

Pretty good food. I had enchiladas (beef) not too bad. I also had a crispy chicken taco. Chicken was tough tasteless and WAY overcooked.

So upon returning a third time, I found the food totally different. The waitress explained that there are a few different cooks, who each make the dishes differently. That's not acceptable to me. I like to be able to count on consistently good food each time I visit a restaurant. I'm not sure if I will go back again. I wonder which chef it was that made the killer salsa? If I knew, perhaps I would pay them another visit? read more

We eat here often. Lunch or dinner. We love the shrimp cocktail. Our kids love the selection of Jaritos drinks. If you want good solid traditional Mexican food, you won't be disappointed. The restaurant is always full of local diners which says volumes about a place if you ask me. read more

It seems I once left a review here but I'll post anyway. My favorite item but don't order everytime is the Shrimp wrapped in bacon. It's truly exceptional. I love the ambience and as for the reviews of it being too dimly lit, that was never a issue w me or anyone I took there. It was never too dark inside and I've dined there daytime and at night. This is one of the best, if not the best Mexican restaurant I've dined at. I always found service to be good whether in slow or busy times. One of the joys for me is to look out the window and watch people pass by on old hwy 99. I'm not a drinker but most times I'll order one of their $5.00 margarita drinks I think it is, anyway, they come in large glasses and they'll salt the glasses. Waitresses always nice. My husband and I ate here twice while visiting Orland from out of state. The food was tasty both times, and the staff was helpful both times. Our second visit, we were especially happy with our server, Alex (Alexandrina), who is warm, friendly, fast, and an overall fantastic server. Just the right tartness, HUGE glass, and the perfect amount of booze to give me a buzz with just one. Plus, they are only like 5 bucks. Score! I came here again a few days later with my mom and my friend Matteo. Each of them ordered the chicken chimichanga. I had a bean and cheese burrito that they were nice enough to add rice in, and covered the whole thing "wet" style with red enchilada sauce. It was exactly what I was craving! The beans and rice are so flavorful, I may not have needed it wet. Next time, I will probably skip the sauce, though it was sooo good! I tried my mom's crispy (and huge) chimi. Firm outside, delicious, moist chicken inside. Threw some sour cream on top and we were grubbin! We each took home leftovers. Be warned! Attention all duck hunters - La Corona opens at 7am! We drove through Hamilton City to have breakfast and nobody opened until 11. We were pleased to find La Corona here in Orland. The cars parked in front were a good sign and Gina greeted us and served us cold Pacifico & Negro Modelo on tap. They have an entire breakfast menu from American selections to the yummy Mexican standards. Gina also offered us a lunch menu that was available. We were all happy with our Huevos Rancheros and Chile Verde con Huevos. Our food came quick and the chips & salsa were great while we waited. read more

I really like this place. The service is excellent and the staff is very friendly. I've tried many of their dishes and my favorite is the chicken chimichanga. Packed full of chicken, beans, and rice....yum! The prices are great and you get your money's worth. They have a full bar and a decent happy hour. My only complaint is the decor. It's a little too dark in there and the decor is old and outdated. They've had the same pinata and lifeless fountain stuck in the corner for as long as I can remember! But I highly recommend this restaurant for good authentic Mexican food. read more
