We love this place! It's become our local hang out! The food is great and very reasonably priced! They have some great deals on game days too! Great burgers, fish-n-chips and some of the best clam chowder I've ever had! The oyster shooters were great too! I highly recommend the place! The staff and owners are very friendly l, as are the patrons! It's got an "old west" saloon feel in front with a relaxing dining area and excellent views of the Swinomish Channel. I'm giving them three stars (vs two) because I enjoyed my meal a lot, however the service was subpar. We arrived and stood by the "please wait to be seated sign" and waited. No one came, so we left looking for another place to eat a late lunch. Well my husband decided he wanted to eat at the pub so we returned. We waited behind a group of four and got a table in less than 10 minutes. We wanted a window seat, but they didn't give it to us because there was a bigger party behind us that ended it. Understandable. Later a window table opened up and they moved us. Food - My husband and I both got the Halibut fish and chips (I got mine with a decent sized side salad) after one of the servers raved about it. And I agree, it was really good. I personally prefer cod, but halibut was delicious. A little on the soggy side, but I enjoyed it. Cole slaw was good. Our appetizer was the shrimp cocktail. It was actually tiny bay shrimp in a glass, sitting on cocktail sauce. Not what we expected, but good nonetheless. So I don't know if our server was irked that we moved, or whatevs, but after she delivered our food she never came back. I wanted water, but never got the chance to ask for it. She came back once we were done to give us our check. I mean it's not like it was busy or she had tons of tables. She just never checked on us at all. Pretty unusual. Lastly the place smelled bad. Like a dirty bar bathroom with those toilet tank round tablets. It was a divey place, sure, but shouldn't smell like a toilet. Surprisingly the bathrooms were clean and fresher than the eating areas. The La Conner Pub & Eatery is my usual go-to when I want to eat out. The greasy burger and fries are my preference for a guilty pleasure. I nearly always order the same thing: bacon cheese burger on their whole wheat breakfast bread (I can't eat their bun); pickles, no onions. Pretty simple order. The last two times I've called the hostess didn't know how to do the whole wheat bread. The first time I didn't know this and she just put my order in as a normal hamburger. No problem, I ate it without the bun. I called the next day to talk to the manager to find out if the whole wheat bread was no longer an option. No problem I was assured. A month or so later, same thing. The hostess didn't know how to do the whole wheat bread so I waited on hold for five minutes for a manager. No problem the order as stated above was on its way in 25-30 minutes. I arrived a little before the stated time to find a take out order sitting in a bag on the counter. "I wonder if that's mine I said to myself?" I proceeded to the hostess stand to pay. 10 minutes later I am finally paid and informed my order is up front sitting on the counter. I said "I hope it hasn't been sitting there too long." No, I was informed she just put it there. I just want to go home and eat my burger. So I leave and go home to open up the box to find that despite speaking with a manager, the burger is on a bun WITH ONIONS and burnt. I do as I did before and eat it without the bun or the onions. Thank heavens for the fries. Cold as usual, but I don't really make a fuss about that because they're good either way, although hot would be a nice change. I call later to speak with a manager - she's gone for the day. So I stop by the next day to show photos to the manager so they can make things right. Nope. I was informed that anytime I do a special order that it is MY responsibility to look in the box to make sure it's correct before I leave. Yeah, so it can take another 45 minutes to get a burger. I don't like leaving negative reviews for businesses. I know employees and owners work hard to earn what they do. I know they are busy this time of year. That's why I make an effort to talk to someone either on the phone or in person so they can make things right. Even a $5 discount on another burger would have been appreciated. Although I know there are few other options for a burger in town, I do know that Nell Thorn and the La Conner Brewery have alternatives. A little more expensive, but clearly they are going to be worth my time and money in the future. I wish the La Conner Pub the best in the future, but I won't go there again unless a friend wants something there and they can't be talked out of it. They clearly could care less. read more

I can honestly say without a shadow of a doubt that it has been 34 plus years since I've lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, that I have had the most amazing battered & deep-fried seafood platter to remember. Not only was the food five star quality, the excellent customer service with reasonably priced entrees, and friendly/inviting environment were of five star quality as well. This was by far the best restaurant experience I have had in at least twenty years... Any one who has never been to a 5-star, down home restaurant and wants to experience dining at it finest from their first step in the door to their last step out... I suggest you go to La Conner Pub & Eatery..... I will continue to come back to this restaurant any and every time I'm back in WA state.... read more

This was a cute pub! We wanted an outside table, so we waited about 15 minutes extra and that was well worth it! The front host was kind of snappy and not super friendly, but all the other staff members were very nice and helpful! At our table, we had fish and chips, steak, and a grilled cheese. All of these were very good! Our waitress kept our drinks full and was diligent about all of our specifications, as we all changed at least one thing about our entree. It's time for another update... really just to add some information that Yelpers may find useful. I recently picked up 3 orders to go (yes, we're local). I have always wondered how our total bill escalated so quickly from what is printed on the menus - plus tax - to the final amount I'm charged when I get to the Tav. Anyway, this time I asked. 'Is there a takeout charge?' The reply? 'Yes, 75 cents per container.' Honestly, I was shocked. It's doubtful that those containers are 75 cents a piece. But I can't help but think that if we had eaten in, if they wouldn't have spent the same amount of money (if not more), on the soap, water and labor to wash the plates and utensils we would have used. And what if we had eaten in, and asked for the leftovers to go? Would we have been charged for that? It just seems like another example of businesses in La Conner being so short-sighted when it comes to 'nickel and diming' the locals. It's pretty likely that the only people ordering food to go are locals. So, you're charging the very people who frequent your establishment the most (and during the critical winter months when tourists don't come out to play) extra for their patronage. I was taught at an early age that the number one rule of business is 'Don't gouge the locals - they are your bread and butter.' Guess they don't teach that lesson here in La Conner. The food? Solid. Most of it is greasy, fried food - exactly what you're expecting. But with 75 cents added to each take-out meal, it's like you're being taxed twice. Wanted to share this place with my boyfriend, as it had been my favorite place for years, and I had not been here in 3 or 4 years. So, we stopped in on a Sunday early evening. It was fairly busy, but not too bad, as there were several open tables and no waiting. We sat outside and waited for the server to come take our drink order. I had a cocktail, he had a soda, one free refill for him. I feel $2.75 is a bit much for a glass of pop, but ok. As we sat there watching everyone around us who had come in well after we had get their food (same order as we had), I was getting a bit cranky. Then, the table next to us was asked if he wanted another beer, which was very nice. He had just barely finished his, mine had been empty for 20 minutes. OK. Fish and chips was NOT the same food as I had eaten there in the past, batter was doughy in the middle, fish was mushy, just not palatable. He did not even get his coleslaw, didn't get the cocktail sauce for his fish he requested. I was embarrassed that I had bragged up the fish & chips for so long to him then this was what we got.... Watched a server squat down and play with a lovely pet dog, then without washing up, went about serving tables, waiting on people. I love dogs, have two of my own, but...... Grand finale, even though I held my tongue through this entire debaucle, our server would not even come and settle our bill, sent the owner (?) instead. read more

Took my family here for lunch today. It was such a beautiful day we got to sit out side. My parents love watching the boats go bye. The food was great and the service was on point. My wife and I have drove down from Bellingham to enjoy the La Conner Pub and Eatery like we have done for the last 15 years. I have to say the last three outings at LCP&E each got worse. When I feel, that by me coming into to eat feels like a burden or an inconvenience its hard to enjoy my time with my wife. The last time we went was two days ago and we had to wait for some time to be helped, and when we voiced that we have waiting for some time, it went down hill from there. My order was over cooked, it was missing the sides and we were treated like we were really unwanted at this place. So my wife and I have agreed that for what it cost to eat out, (beer, cider, food and side order 60+ dollars) we will no longer make that drive. After three disappointments in a row we have written LCP&E off out list. There are to many great places to eat and be treated like they care about you, unfortunately La Conner Pub & Eatery is not one of them any more. read more

I took some friends from out of town to this establishment. The only accolades they gave this place is that, "It smelled like dirty B-Hole!" My parents were almost appalled by the comment, then once they thought about it for a minute they agreed. Another occasion I went to this bar with some friends from out of town. The Bartender with the annoying voice cut one of them off as he was walking in the door because he couldn't walk very well. She told them that she wouldn't serve him and he had to leave. We've been to the La Conner Pub before. I'm always of the mind, "I'll try anything twice, once may have been a fluke". It was not a fluke. Basically the same thing as the two prior visits. We sat on the patio for 10 minutes and nobody came over to greet us. Apparently the servers don't have set sections, they just alternate picking up tables as they come in, resulting in service chaos. It was getting cold, so we moved inside and were greeted immediately by a different server. Drinks arrived quickly, as did our "garlic bread" starter, that was nothing more than a quartered hoagie roll with a bit of garlic butter on it and tossed in the broiler for a couple of minutes. There was a man and his young daughter seated before us. No drinks or anything in front of them, just some crayons and coloring paper for the daughter. A server yelled across the restaurant, "I'll be there when I can!" They left 15 minutes later after not getting service. As they walked out, they passed by the server, who was sitting near the video golf game, eating. A few minutes later, a group of 12 came in and couldn't be accomodated at one table due to "fire department regulations" and the servers wouldn't pull tables together so the party could all sit together. The party got a bit upset about it, and instead of trying to accomodate them, the server that was taking care of them (and also taking care of us) left their first tray of drinks on the table behind us and walked away saying, "I'm not going to serve them, their party is too large and I'm not getting in the middle of this mess". The party of 12 got up and left. Not only did the restaurant lose revenue from the FOURTEEN PEOPLE THAT WALKED OUT, they lost revenue on drinks poured and not served. I ordered a chili burger and my wife ordered a regular burger. I asked how the chili was, and the server replied, "It's REALLY good!" Well, I know the difference between mediocre canned chili and *good* chili. This must have been a generic canned chili such as you'd get at the grocery store *cough*Nallys*cough*. Mediocre burgers, mediocre fries, and a FIVE DOLLAR shot of Wild Turkey left us with a bad experience. Even having Miller High Life on tap couldn't save them. Similar experiences with food and drink the last two times, as well. We won't be back. read more

I have eaten here a few times, and I doubt I will ever go back. The burgers are decent, the fish and chips are decent... The service is some of the WORST I HAVE EVER HAD, consistently..the first time and the second time I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it doesnt matter if its busy or slow you WILL wait FAR too long! The food comes out INSANELY show once the server finally gets around to you. I don't think my food has ever arrived in anything under an hour. Last time I was there I ordered their Dagwood sandwich, the menu talks it up as VERY big and just as tasty.....OMG what a pathetic excuse for a meal....it was a few bits of nothing on a SAD SAD roll that had been microwaved to get it hot. My favorite off-season La Conner restaurant! The fish and chips, oysters, burgers, and patty melts are outstanding. Their fish and shellfish is fresh caught, and their beef is locally sourced Black Angus. The farther you get from that core list of pub food, the more iffy it gets. But let's face it, if you want a fancy meal, the tavern is not the place to go! This is where you go to get the best burger in La Conner, end of story. The key to enjoying a meal here is to avoid tourist season and busy times. If the restaurant is full, forget it! Servers are easily overwhelmed, and the busier it is, the more likely your meal will end up wrong, late, or sub-standard. The best place to eat during the winter, or summer afternoons between the lunch and dinner rush. Not so great on a busy summer evening, though. read more

I give this place one stars. When we came in the older hostess/waitress was not friendly at all. I am a hostess myself and its always proper to great your customers with a SMILE! She sat us and I asked to be seated by the window and she replied with "hold on let me clear it" not sounding thrilled about it at all. My friend and I ordered the clam chowder which was very good. I ordered the shrimp salad and my friend ordered the garden burger. We were less than impressed. The server brought our checks over halfway through our meal. As if she was trying to rush us. She also didn't ask us how our food was at all. She seemed grumpy and unhappy the whole time. Who wants to be served by someone like that? Its a Pub.. the chairs on the desk are plastic...so what should we expect? I really nice meal. Deep fried seafood may not be seen as gourmet, but this was as well prepared seafood like that as I have had. Clams were giant and tender.. Scallops melted like butter in my mouth.. really well done. (We had seafood in SC at a famous place that was terrible) Not here.. They are right on the water so we could watch the Crabbers come in and our waitress was wonderful.. very friendly and open.. helping make it a very nice and romantic evening for not much $$ read more

We have been going to this restaurant for 30 years and it has been our "go to" place for fish and chips. Lately we have noticed it hasn't been the quality we are used to. Last night we shared a fish and chips order and I had a cup of clam chowder. The fish was not good, the batter was raw inside, and the chowder had sand in it and not many clams. We were just about finished our meals, and intending to have another couple of drinks. The server didn't come and ask if we wanted anything else, she brought the check and dropped it on the table and left. The place wasn't busy, plenty of empty seats so it wasn't as though she needed the tables. Maybe she was having a bad day, but we were pretty annoyed at her attitude. My wife Madelon and I come here every winter when her brother Omar is visiting us from Denver for the holidays -- this is where he always requests to come, and we always sit in the same front window corner. Standard orders are bowls of chowder, large slaw, fish and chips, and clams and chips -- everything to perfection!! Plus, exquisite service (today from wonderful Jenn Rose)! Then a stroll, and drive back to Seattle by the same route via Tulalip. All three of us are already eager for next year's visit...!! Madelon and I also always come at least once or twice each summer. Splendid!! Special note: deeply saddened that the original owner passed away in 2011, but so very delighted his dear family has committed to continuing this classic La Conner institution. We always have a beer at the La Conner Pub & Eatery whenever we are in town. It's got a great small-town-local-semi-dive-but-nice-for-families vibe, which is tricky to pull off! The long bar up front features just-bordering-on-tacky nautical decorations (models of tall ships with sails snipped out of Milwaukee Light cans, statuettes of fishermen, etc.) and brass plaques at each stool honor past owners and old soaks. A couple of serviceable pool tables do a fairly brisk business. There's a table smack dab in the middle of the front window - nice for watching Boomer and Greatest Generation tourists strolling along the main drag in their puffy white sneakers and pastel baseball caps - or you can opt for seating in the middle of the room - or even dine by a rear window with a lovely view of the canal out back. We've recently taken to having the fish and chips and the clam strips. The fish and chips are actually quite good - made to order from fresh cod, so they come out hot and crisp and yummy. (I know how they're made because if you sit in front at the bar you can see everything being prepared, just like in an upscale "open kitchen" joint.) The fries, while they are coated with that weird spice deep fry mixture, are hot and fairly plentiful. The wait staff manages to be a trace 1980s bridge and tunnel tacky without going over the top, and they are always nice and friendly in that beach-side-tourist-town way that I associate with summers in the fading resorts of the east coast where I grew up. They know you're not coming back, so they crack the same jokes with everyone, but it's cheerful and efficient, if not particularly classy or personal, customer service. Frankly, I really like this place. It doesn't hurt that the prices are refreshingly affordable in a town that can be a tad pricey. read more

Never knew roast beef could turn out white, I didn't finish my sandwich needless to say. I'm not sure if it was just an off day for the restaurant but between the wait to be seated, the wait for the food, the dirty water glasses, or the fact that my French dip looked more like a peppered turkey sandwich with zero taste and flavor--I was very disappointed, especially for the price. The waitress once she took our order we only saw her when she brought the food to the table. When she forgot the soup, it took nearly the whole meal before we saw her again and we were already done. I'm sure it was just an off day for the restaurant, but I'd still be wary of the roast beef. read more
