So happy The Rex is open for dinner! Great spot for a casual night out with great cocktails and good food. Relax - this is a small place with a small staff and even smaller kitchen: If you're in a rush, or the impatient type, this ain't it. But if you like to sit a spell and chat with your people as you enjoy friendly, knowledgeable staff (you're likely to be served by the owners themselves), a craft cocktail, relish a lovely meal, then polish it off with one of Jane's amazing desserts (salted caramel brownie à la mode, anyone?), then we'll see you at The Rex, because we will definitely be back! We were a large group (10) on a busy night and Jane and crew handled us beautifully. Our table enjoyed steak salads, the pork tenderloin, the chicken linguine, cod risotto, clam chowder, a Reuben (huge!), and flank steak. Dessert was outstanding - choose from Lopez Island Creamery ice cream (huge scoops), or one of Jane's scratch-baked treats (pies, key lime bars, brownies, cookies, more). The salted caramel brownie à la mode melted in my mouth. It was excellent, you could taste each component - the fudgy brownie, the creamy caramel, the occasional crunch of salt = 10/10, no notes, don't miss it. It was absolutely fantastic. I had the flank steak came with asparagus a huge pile of mashed potatoes, and my steak came with a balsamic drizzle with blue cheese. Absolutely delightful. I love that they have taken the grocery portion out of the store and turn it into a full on restaurant. They are going to do very well. On our day trip to LaConnor, we stopped in at The Rex to see what they're offering. We learned that the new owners, Karl & Jane, just opened a few days ago. This place is being revamped into a dessert bar. They are currently offering cold beverages, gelato and Lopez Island ice cream, along with sandwiches, fresh pies and other baked goods. We got some ice cream and of course, had to try the homemade chocolate chip cookie. It was a nice treat! I'm liking what we're seeing so far and will check them out again in a few months to see how they are progressing. It's a cute place with friendly owners! There is ample patio seating. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. If you're a poc I would avoid this place. The moment my family and I entered the doors we got ugly looks from not only the staff but customers as well. We got sat after a while of waiting. And never got menus. The moment a a big group of Americans arrived they got greeted, sat and got menus while we were still waiting for menus or even water. I'm going to lower my rating to 3 stars finding out that the server/ bartender we came to see again was no longer working there and our service was not as great. The food was still good, came for dinner this time. Blackened fish tacos were tasty, as well as the pasta. We were disappointed in the service this time around. Great new spot in the Skagit Valley. My burger was delicious and the perfect size - The Bitty Burger. Good, cold drinks and wonderful service. Newly opened in March 2026. Hand cut fries!! So good. It's a shame to see a great spot go downhill. We attempted a birthday dinner here and were given a "reservation runaround" that started with the owner. After being told they don't take reservations, we arrived only to be told they do--just not for us, apparently. If you're going to pivot to "bistro-level" service, you need the staff and management to back it up. Right now, it's all pretension and zero execution. read more

Our main entrees were Pork Tenderloin which was tasty but overcooked and Blackened Cod which was delicious. Peach Pie and Key Lime Bar for dessert, both very good. We decided to come here as a quick lunch stop. The owner and the young woman running the place are both very nice and the food/dessert portions are well worth the price. ~$45 for two large sandwiches, chips, and drinks (included 20% tip). We stopped in for dinner after a day of riding and checking out the daffodil fields in La Conner, the food was excellent and the staff were wonderful A+ service, the charcuterie board was awesome as was the roast beef dip and the smashed burger, chatted with the owner for a bit very nice guy makes you feel very welcome, we highly recommend this place to everyone. read more

This is a completely out-of-the-way gem. Nothing around but farmland . But it's cherry, the food was terrific, and it's an adorable place to enjoy, both inside the restaurant and outside on the extended patio. The Reuben sandwich was perfect, except for the need of a microwave to keep it warm. The service was just great, although it would have been difficult for it not to be because it was after regular lunch on a Saturday. And the lemon cheesecake bar was amazing. Still high from that. It's little, it's homey, it's out of the way, but absolutely worth it. read more

I'm going to do 3 stars. This was a great hang out 2 owners ago. This new side of the bistro was quite impressive. The place looked awesome. It was packed and surprisingly we got a table. It was getting busier and our host actually took our drink order while we settled. Very kind of her. She informed us our waitress was going to take our order and we waited. Then we waited. Then we waited. Then we waited some more. Then we noticed people that arrived after us were getting served before us. So we waited. Our server asked about our cocktails and checked (we still didn't have them yet), so we waited some more. I asked... what are the chances of us getting served before the people that arrived after us? After seeing they got served before us, I'm estimating 0%. The waitress was a little stressed and a little argumentative. Not good but I will give her the benefit of the doubt. Food finally arrived - OMG, excited. Well....My food was cold. My husband's steak salad had 3 very small pieces of steak, weird. Our other friends had no comment. I do hope this little place succeeds. They did an amazing job on aesthetics but they may need a little more help to accommodate the business of Friday night. Great Vibe, beautiful on a sunny day but equally charming even when the weather is not. The owners are kind and clearly passionate about what they do. They have a great team of dedicated staff. Like any place trying to level up, there will be growing pains with service levels, etc-but they are getting it worked out. Definitely a nice place to hang out, enjoy some drinks and great food! $22 Charcuterie Board was PATHETIC!!! Who the hell puts raisins on a charcuterie board, it was mostly nuts, they skimped on the meat, cheese, fruit. Service was slow, waited a half hour before finally asking the server, who admitted the computer lost our order. Still took an another 15 mins to get our plate. Server also took the plate before we had finished. Go figure. Absolutely awful experience will not recommend. read more

I have driven by the Rex and Taco Tuesday sign lured my famished soul in on a Tuesday! It appears, it is a specialty/convenient store, a bar, and a cafe. Interesting mix and layout. They have local microbrews on tap so I ordered a beer and a beef taco, which for 7 dollars, seemed expensive. Until it came out! It was a soft taco that requires two hands and a few napkins, or a fork to eat. I almost ordered two but I am glad I only ordered one because it was filling. The taco sauce included is what I'd call an old school taco sauce to go with an old school American taco. I would not say it was the best old school soft taco I've had, but it was good. This is a very fun place to stop for a drink on the way to La Conner, to meet a large group of friends or attend a fun event. Very friendly, funny and inviting staff. The expectations I had for this place weren't very high. Boy was I wrong to think that way! We were in the outside area for a party which is beautiful and perfect! Picnic tables, heat lamps, grassy area and a roof over our heads in case of typical Washington rain. None of these things even compare to the burger I ate. I went expecting to have one kind but due to a smaller menu for the night I switched it up to a bacon cheeseburger. This was one of the best burgers I have had in a long time! My wife and I spent some time in LaConner and stopped at the Rex for lunch. It is a great place to eat and drink. There are several different seating areas at their large facility, each with its own character. The food was great and the service very friendly. We will return to this great spot. read more

We stopped for lunch- had the Thursday fish and c hips special and the Rex Special (turkey with cranberry sauce) sandwich. Both were very good somewhere between reasonably and generously sized.
