I did a take out order for a number 9 and a number 10. If you like smothered this is the place for you. There was so much sauce I didn't know what to do with it all felt more like a scavenger hunt finding my food. I love sauce so the fact that I thought there was to much sauce is a statement. As far as flavor goes all I could really taste was the sauce. The inside looked nice it was small but well laid out. Location is good considering it's on Colfax. The litmus test for me when I first visit a Mexican restaurant is the huevos rancheros. My wife ordered a combination plate with a chili relleno, tamale, enchilada, and tostada. The huevos rancheros were quite good. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and the potatoes crispy. The beans were okay. My only issue was the green chili, as it was pretty average and had very little flavor much less spiciness. The tortillas that came with the dish were quite tasty. The red chili on my wife's plate was much tastier albeit on the salty side. The tamale was soft and the masa harina tasted fresh. The batter on the chili relleno was tough and would benefit from being updated. The enchilada was tasty. The service was on the abrupt side but passable. The prices were wallet friendly. We've been going to this little place for about a year now. They serve breakfast all day. My husband finds what he likes and sticks with it. The breakfast Ala Mexicana is his favorite. It's a large platter of goodness. I usually get something different every time. Always good. The staff is friendly and attentive. It's always clean, tables are cleared and wiped off as soon as the customer leaves. Nicely decorated. Small restaurant. Very intimate we can carry on a conversation and hear each other without having to raise our voices. Several televisions if you want to watch sporting events. Not too pricey. read more

Great little mom and pop place! Stopped in mid-morning and were promptly confused for Spanish speakers, which was a good indication of the authenticity. Other good signs: almost all of the families eating were speaking Spanish, both the hostess and waitress were bilingual; and the menu included menudo and lengua. Prices were reasonable, service was friendly/attentive, and our things came out quickly. Oh, also the food was great. We ordered a carnitas torta and enchiladas ranchero. Both were delicious--my torta had homemade bread (I think?), nicely textured/seasoned carnitas, lovely guacamole, and fries fresh out of the oil. read more

Came in to grab some breakfast burritos for takeout. I've been wanting to find an actual authentic tasting Mexican place and this is it! They were very nice taking my order, and even offered water for while we were waiting. We got the steak and chorizo breakfast burritos and both were spectacular. Meh. This place is alright. We came after a rough workday since their happy hour runs 3-7 M-F and a margarita sounded good. Made the mistake of ordering the house strawberry margarita instead of the house margarita so it was not included in the HH promo. I know this is common but usually flavored margs aren't also called "House". But I digress. Said house margaritas were the typical syrupy sweet flavored margaritas you would expect. Chips are below average, taste stale and you can see baskets of them sitting out on carts. Salsa comes poured out of a syrup jar and is alright. I had a combo plate with an AWESOME crispy Chile relleno. Everything else was just fine. Had a lot of cheddar cheese to be considered "authentic". Pretty typical, mediocre Mexican-American food with subpar service. Can't imagine we will be going back when there are so many other, better restaurants in Aurora. read more

First time I came here I tried the La Costa skillet. It's so delicious and has steak, ham, chorizo and bacon, potatoes, cheese and you can smother it in green chili. Everything has such good flavor the tortillas are nice and fresh as well. Love this place! read more

We have lived in this neighborhood for 9 years and this is our first visit to this restaurant. We have been missing out. This place is fantastic. It's in a strip mall and the sign on the building does not look great, but the sign on the window u.s very nice and inside it is lovely. Very cozy, nice decor, great Mexican music. Now to the food. The salsa was excellent to start. I had carne asada and my wife had a burrito. My meal was delicious, especially the homemade tortillas. My wife loved her smothered burrito and we both tried the green chili she had it smothered in and it is fantastic. She also really liked her margarita, they were very generous and I may be carrying her out of here. The wait staff was very pleasant and accommodating. On a non food related point. There is a pokestop next door at the boost mobile and that made my wife happy, though the food was so good she almost forgot to even get her pokemon stuff. Lots of to go orders containing menudo....the owner is a really great lady and makes everyone feel welcomed. Excellent green chili. Seriously. I saw the other reviews, and since I love me some green chili and wanted a local / authentic place, this seemed like a good fit. I'm so glad I went. I tried the tamale and cheese enchiladas smothered and had just a bowl of the green chili. Delicious! There were many locals and if lived around here this would be a go to spot. I came here to meet some family for a dinner. It sits in a shopping plaza and is nothing to write home about as far as looks. Small interior with lots of booths and some tables. We were a party of 5 and it seemed like we had to squish in. Definitely not for big groups. They have a big menu and even have wings! I guess they took over an old wing restaurant and kept them on the menu. I had a combo plate (cheese enchilada, beef taco, chile relleno) and I found it freshly made and big portions. No complaints, nothing that stood out. They never really came back to give refills, which was disappointing. Looks like they have a decent happy hour and breakfast too! It really picked up when were there, so it is a neighborhood joint. If in the area and wanting Mex, it is a decent option. read more

La Costa sits in an unassuming little strip mall next to the King Soopers on Colfax and Chambers. We have lived in the area now for 8 years, and only tried this place for the first time 2 years ago. Boy were we wasting time driving across town! This place is the bee's knees. The pricing is totally average. About 10 bucks for a combo meal. My husband can't seem to stay away from the huevos divorciados. It comes with two eggs, each smothered in a completely different, (but both spicy and delicious) set of sauces, one red one green. Of course, he will choose breakfast over any other meal when given the chance. So he's pretty stoked to get eggs for dinner. When he's hungry, he adds a pork chop and this is a majorly filling, flavor explosion of a meal. I'm a combo Queen anytime I go to a Mexican restaurant. I don't think I could pick my favorite Mexican dish! I think the one I go to here is the number 9. It comes with a guacamole tostada, a crispy or soft taco, a crispy or soft relleno and a cheese and onion enchilada. Yummo on all counts. No need to pay extra for the deluxe, it really doesn't come with anything that needs to be slathered with guacamole. The service here is pretty decent, although some of the waiters and waitresses have a tenuous grasp on the English language. But they make up for that in cheerful demeanor and a willingness to help. I highly recommend getting your adult libations either before or after coming here. Sure, a Malibu and Coke is a Malibu and Coke. But it comes in a tiny glass and cost a fortune. If you simply cannot make it through a meal without drinking, bring a flask! A meal for 3 ran us $70 or so, just because of the drinks. Without adult beverages, you can get out of there for $40 or less for a table of three to four. I woke up a few months ago with a serious craving for queso fundido. I went here on my second attempt to find something that would satisfy this craving, and again was not disappointed with La Costa. Queso fundido is just about the only preparation I enjoy of chorizo. I know there are some folks who love chorizo, and I am just not one of them. It's just too greasy, and the flavor isn't for me. But in the queso fundido, the blanket of white cheese absorbs the greasiness. Sop that stuff up with a tortilla, craving quelled. After a dozen or so visits, I have come to terms with the regret I lived with for letting this little gem go undiscovered for so long. Jeff and I walked here for breakfast this past Sunday. We thought it was about time we checked out some more places in the neighborhood. La Costa is a small little place located in a strip mall but it seems like a popular neighborhood place as it was pretty busy at 9am. Jeff had a breakfast burrito with chorizo. They made it with eggs the first time around (he had asked for no huevos) but they quickly made him another. It was a pretty big serving especially for the $4 price tag. It was pretty good! I had the chilaquiles smothered in green chili. It was pretty ok. It was a big helping with rice, beans and lettuce. The only downer was that it wasn't really spicy at all. I had wanted to try this little Mexican restaurant and stopped in tonight around 8pm. My boyfriend went to use the restroom when we were seated and the waitress Elana asked me if we were ready to order before he even returned. We had two adult menus at the table and three waters so it was obvious not everyone was seated...besides we had just opened our menus and hadn't even found the drink menu. They offer delicious complementary homemade chips with a salsa that has an awesome bite to it. My 6 year old ordered pancakes off the kids menu and my boyfriend and I shared the single portion of chicken and steak fajitas. We also asked for queso fundito. Our chips, salsa and water remained empty for a grueling amount of time and when our queso came out, the meal was served at the same time. We were not given plates, had to ask. Silverware also. Also had to request more chips and salsa and chips and water. When we finished yet another glass of water with our meal, nobody offered to refill it. Actually, I watched our waitress talking and fooling around at the bar. She also took a shot of some liquor. When we finished our meal, we had eaten half of it without water in spite of me actually slurping loudly with my straw. She seemed attentive to other people in the restaurant, even walked by looking at our empty water glasses and walking back to the bar to pick up her phone and text and joke with the other servers. Not that it was a huge deal, but when she offered us our bill, she placed it right in front of me....its kinda a no no in most places to put the bill in front of anyone in particular, especially the wife. That being said, its unfortunate. The flour tortillas, chips and salsa were homemade and tasty. The steak portion of the fajitas had some sort of delicious sauce on top...and while my bf didn't care for the queso because it was a melted cheese instead of velveeta with chorizo....I loved it. I would probably return, but I doubt that I would be welcome because I tipped according to service. It might be something better to order for take out. That or don't sit in Elanas section. I order a combo plate: Chilli Relleno, tamale l, enchilada, and tostadaa. It was all so good. I order horchata and that was bomb to. Tasted homemade. My hubby ordered flata plate. This food brought memories of my grandma and great grandmas cooking. Service was good as well. Portion size is good for 1-2 people. We were craving a Mexican breakfast and since our go to restaurant, Lupitas closed in May, have been on the hunt for a good replacement. Well look no further, we found our spot. I ordered the Mexican breakfast; scrambled eggs with chunks of Bacon, smothered with Green chili, beans, potatoes and fresh corn tortillas!!!! It was DELISH!!!! I was so into it, I forgot to take a picture. The service was good and the place was clean.
