Our tour guide brought us here and it was exactly what I was looking for! They cook their oysters. I wanted it raw, but it's ok. They had octopus and it was delicious! Highly recommend octopus on all the entrees that they had on octopus. Guacamole is great for a starter. Adored their refreshing real fruit used, mango smoothie! Hired local tour company off the port from my Princess Cruise Ship at our stop at Mazatlán. We were looking for lunch so our guide, took us to this beachside restaurant. Clearly, location is everything because it is beachfront and next to a popular restaurant that had live pop music. Whereas this was more of a traditional feel with a mariachi band walking around playing tunes. Now to the good part. Food. Mazatlan is known for some of the best seafood. So we were hoping to find some deliciousness. However, spending over $100 at this restaurant didn't seem worth it. We tried octopus, and the shrimp party for 2. We barely finished half the meal. I think it was too much and barely any flavor. It must be my mistake, the food wasn't bad. Maybe it's because I think this type of restaurant is targeted towards a certain demographic. (Mainly the stereotypical tourists, primarily from ethnic types who don't usually incorporate flavor. And likes things overpriced.) Not trying to offend, but I'm from San Diego so I guess my standards are high living in a border town. I recommend this place if you're looking for a vibe. But I would order simple. read more

I did not end up here by accident. I had conducted copious "lobster by the beach homework", before arriving in Mazatlan. High on my list was La Costa Marinera, a restaurant on the beach, with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. I arrived, just after sunset, to be mesmerized by the orange hues that were still dominating the horizon. The menu, as researched, was heavy on seafood and while there were many good choices, I came here for the fresh lobster (either Thermidor or Grilled). I always prefer the latter. They showed me the lobster before grilling it and I must say that they were very generous because there were two small to medium sized spiny type crustaceans (as 4 halves) that came to my table. One of them was slightly overdone, but the second one was perfect. The intoxicating grilled aroma of lobster meat permeated my senses, as I slowly enjoyed every bite with the melted butter. Accompaniments were rice and beans (which were dry and caked, even after they redid it for me). Complimentary chips came with a mild salsa. I requested a picante, if they had it and they specially made one for me. That was dynamite. I was in heaven. Service was slow (due to understaffing), but that did not take away from the experience. It is a beautiful location right on the beach, with a lovely beach view. There is indoor & outdoor seating--this popular Mariscos restaurant in Mazatlan and is a tourist place. Most of the taxi drivers will bring tourists here. The menu price is a tourist price with a 15% service charge. Choose from the menu, or prices can stack up. It is expensive for Mexico but not compared to home for luxury seafood. Service is great! There is an assigned parking lot if you are driving. The only bad thing is that it gets crowded and noisy, with people on the beach and bands playing loud music. Avoid the weekends! I went on a Wednesday around 3 and it was nice! read more

Looking at other reviews, it looks like other people have also received the same recommendations from their tour guides. I wouldn't be surprised if they receive kickbacks from the restaurant. La Costa Marinera is located on Del Camarón in Mazatlán, next to a few beachside condominiums and hotels. Seating is indoors, outdoors on their covered patios, and I believe the tables on the sand are theirs so you can sit right on the beach. Clientele here was pretty much all tourists. Prepackaged chips, crackers, and salsa on the table. Just a bit tacky but tasted fine. The place has really kewl ambiance inside and out! The food was true to Mexican cuisine! It was very tasty and a little spicy, but not super spicy!!! Everything is fresh! The dessert was disappointing, but I did order cheesecake, which I'm guessing isn't a specialty... still sad! The staff were very robust! They had whole party's happening, so I was impressed by the service we got! I'm sure the view in the day time is amazing, but at night I can hear the waves!!! BEWARE of this place!!! We went on a tour of Mazatlan. Our tour guide told us wonderful things about this restaurant. Don't believe a word he says. This was the absolute worst Mexican food I have ever had in my entire life. The salsa is pace picante in a jar. The chips are in a bag not fresh remotely. The shrimp is frozen prongs from private select. The shrimp were pre-cooked prior to coming out to us and they were chewy and gummy and fishy and disgusting. Very wonderful people that work here. Beautiful location. Terrible food I literally took one tiny bite of the shrimp and realized immediately they were pre-cooked frozen and rubbery and disgusting. I didn't touch my food and they didn't offer any money back either. I can't even say the tortillas were good. Nothing was OK for this kind of price. Even chopped up fresh tomatoes with onion and cilantro would have been acceptable. Pace picante really????? You would be better off heading to taco stand. Honestly almost anything would be better than this. Use fresh shrimp? Make real salsa and quit being cheap this location and the servers were beautiful people and so kind. Service was excellent, staff is very attentive. The lunch began with salsa and tostada chips. The server also brought us a roasted tomato salsa and definitely ask for this salsa as well as it is flavorful. The lemonade is made in house and is fresh. We ordered a fried red snapper, coconut shrimp, bacon wrapped shrimp, the steak, and chicken. All the dishes are highly recommended. Tourist trap. Avoid People hound you at the beach constantly. Very pushy. The menu itself says in bold they are not responsible for lost or stolen items means theft is commonplace. Chips come out in packages. Everything is drenched in cheese and seafood obviously not fresh. If your tour operator takes you here it's cuz they get a kickback. Don't go here. Great coastal eats and drinks! *La Costa Marinera* definitely is a good option in Mazatlan for some excellent Mexican food.. though slightly on the pricier side. First of all the views are sweet.. so that sets the mood being right on the beach. I would minus a star for the solicitors that pass the side window of the restaurant trying to sell stuff... no bueno, no gracias. ;/ Other than that they make great drinks.. I got a Cadillac Margarita and it was yummy as I always because of my for some Grand Marnier mmm! As for eats the Crab Tostada and Diabla Oysters with my side of fries was scrumptious and fresh. My first visit to LA Costa Marinera was in 2004 with a cruise group of 24 people. We met our FANTASTIC tour guide Ramiro G. and he recommended the restaurant. The cuisine, service, and atmosphere WAS outstanding!! Everyone loved the positive experience. Fast forward to Tuesday, 11/15/22, our group of 10 cruisers arrived for lunch. As usual, our PHENOMENAL tour guide, Ramiro G. transported us in his new, modern tour van and a WONDERFUL ATTITUDE! Unfortunately, our experience at LA Costa Marinera was horrible. Please see the notes below; 1)  Shawn ordered tuna quesadillas & after the food finally arrived, the server informed him that they were "out of tuna". To save time, he had to share food from his wife's plate. 2) Courtney ordered beef enchilada, they served her pork & she is highly allergic. A BIG PROBLEM! 3) Gena's plate was given to the wrong person (she was telling the server, "That's my plate!") and after the wrong person had ate out if the plate, the server tried to give the food to Gena. Totally DISGUSTING!!! 4) The service was VERY, VERY, VERY slow!!! Our wait time was 35-40 minutes and the food was sporadically served (when someone gets their food and another guests meal arrives 4-5 minutes later, which sucks!) and it wastes our vacation time! 5)  We had to request utensils & a plate for three guests. The server was not attentive to details and was all over the place, which was frustrating. 6)  The server had a nasty attitude, never smiled, or even appeared to be cordial. Even if he didn't understand English, a smile and a few key courtesies should be in his vocabulary. 7) Janice ordered a quesedilla, and they never informed her that they didn't have quesedilla. After 30 minutes, she finally asked about her food and was told that the MEXICAN restaurant was out of quesadillas!!! Really??? 8)  Ramon (a vegan) ordered beans and rice that were never delivered. Tried to give it to him after the check was delivered "as on the house". It was only TWO simple items that (we believed) contained no meat/dairy and it still got screwed up! 9) Food arrived warm/cold and lacked flavor. We didn't get the cultural authenticity! 10) Charged us for two Mexican plates although the 2nd plate was not eaten but tainted because it included pork. The server argued over this point while holding the plate of uneaten food, that was never replaced. The owner/manager (tall guy with mustache) had to come to our table to resolve the issue. 11) The group sitting next to us had similar complaints as well. Although they had a different server, there was major order errors, slow service and cold food! The tourist patrons totally disrespected. WE WILL NEVER RETURN to LA COSTA on our return vacations to the majestic Mazatlan where the people and culture are spectacular!!! read more

From our cruise ship, we ported in Mazatlan and our tour guide told us that he will take us to a great place to eat right by the beach. Lunch time arrived and he took us to La Costa Marinera. Our first time ever at this place and our first time ever in Mazatlan. There were a lot of people eating on this day but we were seated immediately our orders taken quickly. We ordered the Shrimp Mocajete and Ceviche. When the food arrived, it was like eating in Seafood heaven! The individual shrimps served in our dishes were all so big and scrumptious. It was actually even crunchy. It was flavored with just enough citrus to kill the strong fishy after taste and smell the it was garnished with just enough chili powder to not make it hurt when we bite. We were initially served with chips and home made salsa and the salsa was so delicious that I could have eaten it by itself as the meal. Definitely a two thumbs up for me and I highly, highly recommend this place for everyone who visit Mazatlan to come over to this establishment. read more

Unfortunately, this is a tourist trap that the van and taxi companies take all their customers to. You only have to look at the who is dining here and you already know. We asked our driver what was a good place to eat and he brought us here. The food was overpriced for what it was. My fish and chips consisted of undercooked fries and okay tasting fish. The rice was actually the best part. My date's dish did not look appetizing at all but he ate it anyway. Service was fast. We had countless people trying to sell souvenirs, flowers, sunglasses and random stuff to us while waiting for our food. We tipped accordingly. Everytime we come here the food is so yummy. The service is always great and accommodating. It is clean and i have never been sick eating there. Shrimp platter for 2- this platter is just awesome. The shrimp is so tender. This is def a plater for 2 as the shrimp is Muey Grande! Seafood VIP for 2- this is fantastic but know all the seafood is cooked. The cheese sauce became a little too rich for me though most love it. Also, you can have the fish and shrimp griller instead of fried. Not sure what is happening with poor La Costa Marinera. We've always stopped here in the past when in Mazatlan for exceptional food and service, plus they really do cater to families. Unfortunately, this time was significantly different. 8 of us total, my parents ordered the fresh 1kilo fish. Everyone's food came out except for my parents. Shortly after the waiter said that there was only a 1.5kilo fish and if my parents wanted it then there would be a 20 min wait. I asked why our food was brought out separately and said we would prefer to eat as a family, however there was no concern for that. Additionally, the food that was brought out had cold rice and beans and lastly my parents were charged for the 1.5k fish (that took 45min) instead of a 1k fish that they had originally ordered. Also - not a translation issue as my sister if fluent. All in all, still a beautiful restaurant - but it will be our last visit. To many other amazing places to pick from in Mazatlan. read more

Went there with my family while on vacation in Mazatlan for some fresh fish and seaside dining. It's very low-key and the ambience is non-pretentious. The menu was large and the waiter and service was phenomenal. I had the fresh fish fillet with garlic and butter and fresh vegetables with rice and it was fantastic. This is our first time in in Mexico and we are really disappointed. We used the Mazatlan limos and our driver Ricardo was great at the beginning. We agreed on a price of $25 per person tour for 3.5 hours of sight seeing. We asked him if he knew of a place that specializes in shrimp and tuna, as this is what mazatlan is famous for. He recommended this place because it's good and cheap and he eats here. BIG FAT LIES. The prices are ludicrous and the food is tolerable. My ribs dish was dry and hard so when another waiter noticed that I didn't eat more than a bite, he asked if it's because it's hard and dry. His words not mine and I agreed. He said I should mention to cashier and maybe she'd take the charge off. The cashier didn't give a darn. So for lunch, we paid $47.19 with tips. This is a rip off if you consider that an average person makes about $8 per day. This is lunch in Mexico? So Ricardo drops us at the cruise terminal and I told him that since I didn't haggle the price of $25 and it's only 2 of us, my husband will give him $50 as agreed. But he said that we owe him $20 more cause he had to wait for us during lunch and that is $20 extra. WHAT? I told him that is not what we agreed on and if we wanted to charge us extra $20, he needed to say that before we agreed to go to lunch. So we gave him another $10 and walked away. While we were at the restaurant we noticed that vans of tourists were being herded here. It's a tourist trap. Too bad cause both of these experiences left a sour note on mazatlan. read more

The "shrimp party" for 2 and the coconut shrimp are delicious. They have the best shrimp in Mazatlan. Ask for a table on the patio overlooking the ocean. The mango and cherry margaritas are delicious and they definitely do not skimp on the tequila! Only complaint is the inside is a little too hoaky- but the food more than makes up for it. read more
