We happened upon this place while staying at the El CID El Moro hotel. It's about four doors down, at the end of a gravel driveway, and right on the beach. It was probably one of the best meals I've had in me entire life - and I'm a foodie! We had lobster thermador, a grilled fish sampler platte, and cerviche at a table right by the beach and as the sun was setting. All this for $60 - $75 with tip. Had lunch with my wife there yesterday, and let me tell the food was awesome we ordered the Mariscada for two I would suppose being it was 425 pesos, presuming it would be plenty of food. Absolutely​ an excellent experience, the food was very tasty, going along with my Pacifico beer it matched accordingly, will say I give it 5stars for the service and quality of the food. Go check it out, you wont regret it, oh and did I fail to mention its in front of the beach, beautiful sight indeed. read more

Our Sunwing rep at the hotel (The Riu) recommended this restaurant to us. Others we had met by the pool were heading to Senor Frogs for dinner and drinks, but we opted for a more authentic Mexican dinner and met up later for drinks. Which we later found out was a VERY good idea. Their meal was very over priced and apparently just pretty mediocre pub fare. Alagua is just around the block from Senor Frogs so it made for an easy evening to just walk over there after dinner without having to worry about a cab ride. We walked down the gravel path to an empty, but gorgeously set up open air dining room. We were greeted by many friendly staff eager to serve us and the most delicious smelling food. We were there in January 2014, which seemed to be quite a slow time for the entire city, so we were the only people in the restaurant for the majority of the evening. We asked for a menu but our friendly waiter asked if we might be interested in checking out the buffet. We did and it looked tasty, so we opted for that option. I can't remember the exact cost but I do remember it was about $13-15 each for the buffet and all the beer you could drink. The food was AMAZING. We sampled a little bit of everything and there was a chef waiting at the end of the line to cook up a custom mix of pasta and seafood and sauces. We asked him to make up whatever he'd like for us, and it was UNREAL. This was some of the best food we've eaten on vacation in Mexico and I fully plan to go back. The unlimited beer and our waters never went a moment unfilled (perhaps with more patrons this wouldn't be the case, but since we were the only ones we felt like absolute royalty). They also had a bowl of limes the ensured was filled, which was a nice touch for both the meals and our beers. The sun was down, so we couldn't see much of the beach ahead - but sitting by the edge of the dining room with the ocean waves and the wind made for a very romantic and enjoyable evening. I almost didn't want to leave! One other couple came while we were there and looked to be enjoying their meal and experience as well. It was mid week and must have been a very slow night, as after we left they started packing up and closing the restaurant. I really enjoyed all of Mazatlan, but I have to say this was one of my favourite parts. If you are looking for a great meal and overall experience at a very reasonable price I highly recommend Alagua! Thank you Alagua for a wonderful evening during our vacation! read more

Food and service is great. We had aguachile and osteones preparadas as appetizers. As entrees I had the molcajete de camarón, and my friend had the fillet de pescada a la plancha. The molcajate was okay. It didn't have much in it, just some salsa in the stone molcajete and about 8 shrimps, onions, and a few pieces of nopal. Not the best thing I had during this visit. Friendly taxi driver dropped us off here for an hour to have lunch. It opens onto a gravel parking lot from the main road, but behind a few walls is an quaint, window-less Mexican restaurant that opens onto the sandy beach. As my jaw dropped in awe walking to our table, my bare feet tripped over some rusted metal table leg... owie. Anyway, vendors stroll along the beach, trying to peddle their silly wares... but they seem to know not to enter the restaurant premises. Horse rides, para-gliders, you name it... Drinks were decently priced for American tourists - about $3 for their fresh fruit smoothies, $7 for their alcoholic cocktails. I tried a mango smoothie, but opted for another coconut smoothie that my xbb was enjoying. We weren't there to get wasted - had a few tostadas and chips and salsa. The tomato salsa was very fresh and refreshing. Final tab for the both of us was somewhere around $15. Oh yeah... free Wif-Fi! Just ask for a code from the waiter. read more

I was hanging out in the area and decided to check this place out. The food is so so good that it makes you overlook anything else. There were tambora bands playing simultaneously and it makes this place so much fun! Their micheladas are out of control and the coconut shrimp is out of this world!! I am bias though... I love shrimp and eating by the beautiful ocean. This place is outdoors by the sea in Mazatlan. Not trendy but so fun!! read more

I came here for brunch with my wife. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Don Trini is the best of the best. He treated me like if I was family. He even put a table and chairs on the sand and serve nothing but cold beers while the banda played for us. This place is well recommended. read more

Best shrimp aguachiles that we found so far. Came back a second day for them. Better than el muchacho alegre that most people recommend. It's right by the beach so we just rinsed off after being in the ocean and enjoyed a beautiful sunset here. The waiter was nice kept the tables clean even though we just came from the ocean. I took a star because I ordered two different drinks and I could barely taste any alcohol in them. Also tried prepared oysters, 6 of them for 120 pesos and they top them off with a diced cucumber,tomatoes, onions, cilantro and lime. I thought this over powered the oyster so I ended up taking most of the topping away. On the second time we also ordered this shrimp variety boat (can you tell we love shrimp) and it was delicious!! The coconut shrimp, bacon wrapped shrimp and shrimp in a cheesy, spicy tomatoe-y sauce were my favorite. They provided my bf and I a plate with rice and some lettuce on the side so it was more than enough food. However the boat was closer to 500 pesos if I remember correctly but it was the perfect meal with variety. This place will be first on my list if I come to Mazatlán again for the shrimp boat and shrimp aguachile. read more

A great place to eat by the beach. It is outdoors so expect flies and heat/humidity. Food and service is really good though.

The name is now definitely Alawa. This is a very good place to eat and drink. We spent the week teaching them how to make Coronaritas.

Were there about 2 years ago and it was really good. Sadly stop by today with great expectations just to get really disappointed. They don't even use tablecloths anymore, really run down place. Even the food still so so, the portions are really tiny now. Ordered the alawa filet sauce was good but come on rice and vegetables portion ridiculously tiny, no to mention de filet. The lemonade was terrible and when we ask for the check, the firts thing they said they will include the service fee??? SERVICE FEE??? I do tip whatever I want, according to the level of service received. Then some one else came to say the card declined and to asked again if we wanted to add the "service fee". As I said before I TIP ACCORDING TO THE LEVEL OF SERVICE RECIEVED, this place deserve a 0% on my opinion. Whathever left some cash on table. Will never come back. Don't think this place will survive for so long, it looked pretty empty and this is the reason. read more
