Del Mar was so good. Textbook Mexican food cooked to perfection. This place is owned by the same folks of Sol Agave, so there was no doubt the food was going to be good. Wife ordered the Birria quesadillas and the portion was huge. There were delicious and for that price, such a steal. I ordered the carne asada plate and absolutely loved it. The beef was tender, rice and beans were amazing and the piece of grilled queso fresco they add to the plate is top notch. The two salsas that come with each dish are amazing too. Red salsa super spicy and delicious and the green one was super fresh. I'll be coming back here soon, for sure. read more

Flavorful but SO GREASY. The platter was covered in grease by the time I was done and so were my hands. Napkins would not do the job alone. This restaurant unfortunately sits in the gap between delicious cheap hole-in-the-wall Mexican food and sit-down novelty Mexican food. I've been curious to try it since someone described it to me as "a cheaper and just as delicious Sol Agave." It was cheaper and it was as delicious but the dishes lack the novelty that sol agave has. Our favorite things we tried on the menu: - Baja fish tacos - Birria tacos (the salsa that comes with these had a great toasted deep flavor) The inside is clean and looks like a typical sit down restaurant - nothing to note here. Absolutely phenomenal. I will certainly be coming back and will be recommending people to come here. I got the Del Mar Birria Combo. It was a combination of pure magic and love. Birria is Prime braised short rib. And it is just perfect. The hot sauces were hot - a little goes a long way. Throw in some cilantro, fresh lime juice, and cheese -- mmm'mm perfection. I have to say, I had high expectations for this place after hearing amazing things about it. It didn't live up to the hype for me. Service - was great. Helpful and friendly employees. Restaurant - clean. Decorated well. Food - eh. The fish tacos were inedible to me. The batter was disgusting. It tasted like chemicals. I could not even take a bite. I asked to change them out with the Birria cheese tacos. Those were pretty great. By far the best thing on the menu. The rice they served on the side was decent, nothing special. The chips and salsa weren't very good. Just average. With they could come with bean dip as well. The green salsa on the taco plate was good. I would like to give them another try. My husband and I were in the area and nothing is really open on Sundays in this area except for a whole lotta chains. Really not looking forward to eating yet another In N Out burger, we looked this place up to see if it was open and THANK GOODNESS! There's nothing wrong with the occasional chain burger but this place is just so much better than all of that. We were greeted by really friendly staff who were very helpful in all of our choices. We ordered the Toritos with smoked marlin and shrimp, the chips and salsa, and two beer battered fish burritos. Toritos are stuffed seafood stuffed peppers and they were delicious. The flavor overall was really solid, the smoked marlin was slightly overwhelming and I wish the shrimp had a bit more flavor but I really enjoyed the freshness of everything. The salsa was very mild, but one of the wait staff brought us the hot salsa after we told them we are from California and can handle spice! If you can't handle spice the salsa will be perfect for you! They also let us try the salsa before we even got to our table. The tortilla chips were very impressive since they make them in house! They were very hot and well salted. The burrito was really really good. For beer battered the fish was very fresh and juicy and didn't get all greasy from the frying. Everything was really well balanced. My only complaint is I would like more hefty pieces of fish but I was really satisfied by the sauces and how perfectly cooked everything was. I adore beer battered fish burritos and this was delicious. The house made potato chips with the burrito were exquisite, so well made, perfectly cut and seasoned. I usually feel starved for good Mexican food in Utah County and this place is on par with a lot of restaurants in Salt Lake City. It was a little pricey but you're paying for fresh seafood in Utah! It is all worth it. I will definitely be back for the food and the staff was above and beyond friendly. The difference between a good experience and a great one is in the details. This was my first visit to Del Mar Seafood Taqueria. Immediately, I was thrown off. The sign said "Wait to be Seated," but it was set up as a fast food configuration. No worries. I was greeted and seated. I noticed the fountain drink station and tableware seemed self-service too. However, my server brought my drink and kept me refilled. There were forks and napkins on the table. So during the day they must keep them stocked. Also, Del Mar Seafood implies a seafood-focused establishment. It is not. Shrimp and Mahi Mahi are the only two options. It's much more of a traditional taqueria. If you have read me before, Gluten Free options are important to my wife. There was no GF indication on the menus. You have to ask. Lastly in the experience area, if you use paper menus, make sure that they are not food stained. Reprint them weekly if needed, or invest in protected ones. Again, greatness is in the details. You may be asking then, why the 4-stars, well, it was for three important reasons. The environment is fun. I ordered the Baja Tacos (Mahi Mahi). They were great! The presentation was fantastic. We used to go once or twice a week--my wife and I, and with somebody buddies from work. Since they switched to formal service, we haven't really been back much; I don't really know why, but I just don't feel as comfortable. We stopped in Friday to see if they had a lunch special (they used to have a different special for each day of the week, although I don't know if that included Friday). I walked in and there were a lot of employees there, not many customers, if any; it was the middle of the afternoon. Nobody acknowledged me so I stepped past the podium toward the counter where a few employees were, since I couldn't make contact with anyone. I just wanted to ask if there was a lunch special. A woman came rushing up to me and told me in a nasty tone to get back, that I'm not allowed to come past that podium. She was shockingly rude to me. I couldn't believe I was treated this way. Wow. I believe that this location used to be a Rubio's, so I was expecting something similar, but I was pleasantly surprised. This isn't just some fast food taqueria or seafood joint. This is quality restaurant. The restaurant feels really clean and the decor is simple, but stylish. What surprised me most, other than the seriously great tasting food, was the presentation. You can tell that the kitchen staff really cares what kind of food they put out. Everything is deliberate and beautifully plated. I am usually more of a Peruvian-style ceviche fan, but I could really tell that all the ingredients in their Mexican-styles ceviche were high quality and fresh. Also, I'm a real sucker for birria tacos, and these did not disappoint. I saw someone order fried fish that looked amazing as well. I'll be trying that next time I stop in! read more

We are visiting Utah for business and looking for seafood place. I found this little new gem at Yelp with only 9 reviews. We try and checked it out. Let me say we were so amazed on how everything came out. From cleanliness of the place, excellent and attentive service and most of all the food and presentation it's all superb for a QSR restaurant. Appetizers: shisheto peppers. It's perfectly grilled and the sauce was so delicious. It was so good that I ordered another plate. Entree: Ahi tuna- the tuna was cook perfectly and not dry. Shrimp burrito was delicious and very flavorful. I'm also amazed how they present the Food. And lastly, I hate eating plastic utensils and plastic plates. They served cute pretty utensils and regular plates. The sauces at the tables are very tasty and it adds more spice to our food. We usually like shishito pepper and order them whenever we see them at restaurants, but theirs were "okay". We probably won't order it again. I've been wanting to try Del Mar for some time, but also hesitated at the same time. Sometimes I have to be in the mood for seafood. But I don't think that's necessary anymore. Del Mar has something for everybody. I went with the Baja fish tacos. They're solid fish tacos, but probably not the best thing in the menu. The ceviche was fresh and well made. The Palapa Shrimp Plate is ridiculousness on a plate. I could order those as a Len entree and be completely happy. My wife went with the Enchilados, and I'd recommend that to anyone. I am not a fan of seafood whatsoever but I saw they had birria tacos and birria tacos are my jam. I have been to this location once before, but it was when the sister restaurant, Sol Agave, was still in there. I went back to explore it as the newly renovated, Del Mar. The decorations definitely changed when it went from Sol Agave to Del Mar. The new decorations definitely match the seafood/beachy vibe, which I am sure is exactly what they're going for. I have had my fair share of birria tacos at different places so I'd like to think I know what I am talking about when it comes to birria. The birria at Del Mar was actually delicious. I was slightly worried because I have seen a lot of places make birria tacos and it was less than authentic. When the birria tacos originally got to my table, I felt the presentation was on point. As I dug in, I felt like the flavor was also there. The street tacos that it came with were also good but I definitely prefer the queso birria tacos. The extra salsas that the dish came with were an added plus for flavor. I am not sure if Del Mar would be top on my list to go back, just because there is nothing else on the menu that I am interested in but I would definitely love to go back and have their birria tacos. read more

We've eaten here several times with just my wife and I as well as with other family. It is consistantly good food and the service is some of the best I've had. The restaurant is still quite new, and kept very nicely. Music the the background, but not too loud to prevent good conversation without yelling. Gotta say, I was a little disappointed. First of all, I thought it would be a little fancier. It's not a sit down with service restaurant. There are basic taqueria posters along the windows. We ordered our food at the counter and got a number to put on our table. The wait for the food wasn't too long - not like we were at Sol Agave here. We picked up the chips and salsa, which typically is free at most Mexican restaurants. Not here. But they were good, so not too big a deal. I did get a fountain soda. My biggest grievance was that I paid nearly four dollars for the drink. And poured it myself! It's nearly price gouging, like I'm at a ball game or movie theater. No wonder everyone else in the restaurant was drinking water. We ordered the birria tacos and surf and turf burrito. I thought mmm pretty tasty. But after a few more bites, I noticed the fat to meat ratio was pretty suss. My wife ate half a taco and turned down the rest. I'm not too picky but I couldn't finish the last taco, after getting a bite of what seemed like all soft fat. There was some other weird stuff going on, like how they keep their forks in mini buckets, or why I got potato chips with my burrito or how cold it was in there. Just more negatives than positives. I understand this is related to Sol Agave by more than just taking their old location. It could certainly be so, given the quality of the food. It's all first rate, and it's not the standard entrée with beans and rice that is interchangeable at dozens of places around the Valley. I've been twice so far. My food has been perfect, and what I've shared with dining partners has been excellent. You have to love their willingness to use octopus. It's such a hard protein to cook properly. Their shrimp is not overcooked, and the Tilapia in the fish tacos is just fall apart flaky. The rice is good. The birria tacos are excellent. The red sauce has a nice level of hot without going over the top. The green mild and excellent too. Even though it's fast casual, the quality is full service level, and the people who bring the food are nice, polite, and willing to help with any special requests. This place is a breath of fresh air for a reasonably priced place. They do not shortcut on any of the food, or service. read more

Hey so this used to be way better the fish tasted great it was fresh, the menu has totally changed. Basic basic. I just paid for rice and beans and a breasts grilled chicken....i could have sipped this up faster and cheaper at home out of a box with a frozen cutlet. Silverware is provided on table but no knife. How do people move rice onto a fork without a knife. Anyway the gal brought one, the one man here is running around like it's a full house, ran away from us when seating us then acted all suprised we wanted water after a while. This place didn't live up to the hype. We expected a nicer Mexican restaurant but it feels like a cheap one that hired a decorator and learned how to plate the food better. We were interested in getting some fish tacos after seeing the google review photos. The website gives you the impression that the restaurant is a nicer sit-down experience, we almost got dressed up. The inside of the restaurant feels like a generic fast-food space that has some nicer tables and chairs. We were seated by a waitress, who was nice and attentive. However, we were surprised to be handed a menu that was just a single piece of copy paper, printed on both sides. It was kind of crumpled and dirty, with poor quality printing. We ordered the Baja tacos. Our first impression was that presentation was great, but the food didn't taste as good as it looked. The fish portion was much smaller than what we saw in pictures, and the oil they fried the fish in tasted a little old. The rice and beans were the same you get at most Mexican restaurants, just plated better. There was plenty of food, but the flavor didn't match the $16 price tag. I'm in love with this place! Del Mar is a new concept from the owners of Utah's Sol Agave and their seafood tacos are incredible! I'm truly obssessed with this place and went two days back to back when we first checked it out - this is one of my top favorite restaurants for Utah County now! We have tried so much of their menu but my favorites are the Baja fish taco, Dorado tacos (crunchy taco with shrimp), and the enchilados (shrimp and octopus). My husband isn't a seafood fan, so he orders their birria quesatacos and the burria mulita, both of which are also great! On Tuesdays they do a Taco Tuesday deal where you can get their meat tacos or baja fish taco for much less. The Baja fish tacos are only $2.50, but are a smaller version for this deal. Can't recommend this spot enough!! I do recommend dining in. It's a more casual concept but presentation is on point. We have done take out once from here and everything was delicious still but the tortillas do get much softer. Dine in! Five stars for fantastic food and presentation!
