Do NOT sleep on the Mexican food in Utah! Despite Don Joaquin being a chain, I think they serve some of the best Mexican food in Utah, specifically their tacos. So simple, yet so good, as tacos should be! Their food here is very straight forward - Mexican and tasty, no extra bells and whistles. I bought about 10 tacos on Tuesday, since they have a Taco Tuesday deal. Some meats don't apply to the deal, like tripe, but that's okay. It was worth the few extra bucks. For tacos, I got asada, pollo, cabeza, tripe, al pastor, and lengua. Their service is good, quick enough, and the works are kind. I will say, there might be a slight language barrier (Spanish vs. English) but nothing to worry about. The atmosphere reminds me of taco shops in San Diego. I've eaten a ton of stuff here, but I'll review what I've had on this trip: Carne Asasa Gringa - 9/10 - Great taco, love the melted cheese and I love there is salsa out to just add as much as you want! This is my go to at Don Joaquin's. Asada Fries - 10/10 - this is a new edition and it's wonderful!!! Two stars only because when I left I wasn't hungry. I got the green burrito, it looked like nothing like the big picture they have on the wall. Almost no sauce, frozen potatoes on the side. No seasoning, I like my food to taste like something. Would it kill them to salt the food while cooking it?. You can sit inside or you can take your food to go. It's clean and I like that they have a solid sauce bar with great options. 3 different salsas, pico, mango pico, spicy onion and some pepper, cilantro & onion, radishes. Everything you would want for your tacos. I ordered the carne asada, al pastor and chorizo. It came in a combo with rice. Rice had good flavor but there were some unfinished pieces. There was a huge line and it moved fairly well. We came for Taco Tuesday, which made it all affordable. My wife ordered 1 Pollo and 1 Carnitas. I ordered 2 Pollo, and 1 El Pastor. The food was served up quick. The toppings were just ok, I figured the selection would be much better. My tacos were good but my wife threw her Carnitas away as it was like jerky. On 6/21/2025 my bf and his friend got to don joaquin in American fork around 5:15pm. He got two carne asada tacos and two el pastor tacos. He ate both el pastor tacos and one carne asada taco. At 8:30pm he began to throw up and #2 a lot as well. It is now 11:30pm he is still sick. His friend is also not feeling great as well. Please be consistent with food prep and make sure ur employees aren't sick coming to work. So dissatisfied with the quality of food this time. We would eat here all the time. Came back for a second time to try other menu options. Ordered the quesadilla with al pastor and a large horchata, which if you didn't know, is mandatory. It's not written anywhere. It's just standard. You have to get horchata every time you visit this place. It's just that good. The food was prepared super fast, like last time and the staff were super friendly and accommodating. They were busy cleaning empty tables and ensuring the condiment stands stayed stocked and full. The quesadilla didn't miss. It was every bit delicious as their other menu offerings. I can't stress enough that you have to be careful of the pineapple salsa. It's got some heat! Food always comes out fast and the refried beans are just delicious. I'm told these are not the best tacos, but I like them well enough.

This place is hopping. We hit the end of the lunch rush hour and being Taco Tuesday it's probably even more busy than normal. The line didn't take too long but the cashier did catch only 3 of my 4 tacos. No big deal, I wasn't bothered enough to go back in line, even when the line was non-existent near the end of our wait. The tacos are nothing to rave home about but the Taco Tuesday pricing of 1.29 a taco is pretty good and I was satisfied after finishing the 3 tacos I got. What we got: Asada (grilled flank steak) - 3* Pollo (grilled chicken) - 4* my favourite meat Chorizo (pork sausage) - 3* Aguas Frescas - 2* this one was interesting. We are such big fans of Don Joaquin! I'm not a huge Mexican food lover but man these street tacos and frijoles are so yummy and fairly inexpensive! I know it's some what of a chain now but we ar big fans of Don Joaquin's! We made homemade Carne Asada Tacos but couldn't muster up the courage to take on the guacamole salsa (medium spice) so during my errands I stopped by their American Fork Location and picked up their "small" size of salsa for around $3. I'm going to be craving street tacos every single day now! This place hits it out of the ballpark with a home run. The meat is cooked perfectly and wrapped in soft corn tortillas. The tortillas are not so soft that they fall apart. You get ample amounts of meat in your taco and the price is very reasonable. I had chicken , carne, and al pastor tacos. My favorites were the steak and pork. The al pastor comes with a couple of slices of pineapple and does cost a little more than the chicken and steak. I paired my al pastor taco with the pineapple habanero salsa. This was a diced salsa which I felt nicely complimented the flavor of the al pastor. The steak taco was juicy and tender. The salsa bar here was great! I love a lot of onions, cilantro, and salsa with tacos so it was nice to try everything. The menu is simple and the daily specials are great. I mean, who doesn't love $1 tacos on Tuesdays and Wednesdays? There is also burritos and quesadillas to choose from. For three tacos and a drink, my meal was $7. I left full and happy. I heard this place does get busy and there was a short line, even at 9 PM. They also have a to go counter with a separate salsa bar in that area too. My BF picked up takeout from here so I didn't actually get to see the inside of the location. Everything was good, nothing revolutionary. The Gringas are very similar to the quesadilla except they're fried. I probably wouldn't have been able to tell a big difference if I were blindfolded. The horchata was tasty, and I'm glad they didn't put any ice in the cup. The salsas (not including the mango) were okay, a little bland. Not too spicy. The mango salsa is CRAZY spicy. I didn't expect that at all, so beware. I saw a lot of (jalapeno?) seeds in there. Plus, everything gets spicier the older it is. The quesadilla was my fave, but like I said, nothing extraordinary. There's a lot to love here, and with some finishing touches I feel like you're really going to have something. But it's a basic street taco place, and I like that. We rolled up a little later and missed the dinner crowd, but while I'm on the subject, do note that they are open some late late hours, especially on the weekends (2am!) so that's a massive plus in this part of the county. It's a big space--really much larger than you imagine--and while it's perfectly adequate it does need some character. But you're here for the tacos. We ordered darn near one of everything. They were out of the ojo, and I'm not a huge fan of tripa, but we did get suadero, cabeza, and lengua. Then we went a little more mainstream with al pastor, carne asada, pollo, pescado, and chorizo. My personal favorite was the chorizo, though I heard the pastor was good. Unfortunately I cant recommend the carne asada, but it may have been a rough batch so don't let that deter you. However, the pescado was okay tast-wise, but so small (and the most expensive one on the menu) that it wasn't worth the extra moolah. Chorizo, pastor, suadero, all good. Lengua and cabeza, good stuff. Pollo a little plain. And if you get it gringa style, they load a ton of cheese on there, maybe a bit too much, but YMMV. I'm mostly excited that we ate and ate, and we got all the limes and salsas, and it was like $15. It's no frills, get what you pay for, and it was good stuff that was worth a stop. I think if you want tacos (or burritos, etc.) this is a really good, quick, easy option. read more

If I come to Utah Valley & don't stop & get all the tacos (especially the carne asada) with an absolutely obscene amount of pineapple pico, it was basically a wasted trip. This is a great taco place! I didn't know about this place until recently. Go on Taco Tuesday where most of the tacos are $1! (There are a couple meat ones that aren't like lengua and fish).
